Woah...Interesting choice of books to write a synthesis essay on, I guess. In my opinion, Sophie's World wasn't that great. But that's just me...It was interesting, though...

Heh, don't worry. Sophie's World got pretty mixed reviews in my classroom as well.
Personally I didn't read it, because that year I had read Memoirs of a Geisha and Handmaiden's Tale, and by the end of the semester I was kinda bored with that kind of book...

Oh.
Memoirs of a Geisha seems to be a really good book although the movie was just so-so...Sophie's World just had too much information on Philosophers, so...it got a bit tedious of a book to read.

The Memoirs books goes into MUCH more detail than the book, it's definitly better than the movie.
did you hear about all the controversy in that book? The lady that gave the author alot of information about her geisha days almost sued @_@

I haven't read Memoirs yet, but I do love the movie - it's visually stunning and the cinematography is superb. I'm such a techie geek! On another note, I'd like to congratulate both KitaAmaya and Paraphernalia for becoming

I love that movie! It's one of my top 5 movies. The color and just the whole aspect is completely awesome. The book in my opinion was highly detailed but long and drawn-out. That's just me though. I love the soundtrack for the movie though...that's what really got me into movie soundtracks. Thanks orna by the way! Really vortigan...I thought the book was pure fiction. eek I've never read sophie's world. Is it a good book?

Yay! Now we're 5th Year Buddies! =D I like that one quote in the movie though. "Her eyes have too much water" "But water extinguishes fire..." Or something to that extent...

Well, it IS a fictious story, but it's based on real facts, so it has some sort of historical accuracy. Although there definitly hasn'T been a Geisha named Chiyo/Sayuri during the WWII era.
But I agree, the movie was superb, expecially visually and musical wise.
My favorite quote is the little dual of wits between Sayuri and Hatsumomo.
"I remember when I was just an apprentice like youm, Sayuri." - "Yes, but that was a long, long, long, long... LONG time ago."
And the other one (don't exactly remember the ordering between the two quotes):
"You know, Sayuri... sometimes silence is the best answer." - "What better advice to heed than your own!"
Go Sayuri, man :p
EDIT: Congrats to the new 5th Years!

YAY! Thanks Vortigan. I thought those were pretty good ones, too. But sometimes authors, directors, etc. seem to try WAY too hard to make their piece of art seem intellectual that it becomes really stupid. That's not necessarily true about Memoirs of a Geisha. I thought it was pretty good, but the book was better.

I went from an average of 6 or so posts a day to about 9.5 or something in 2 days. I've been playing Gaia for about 42 days or something along those lines. 42 * 3 = 126. I'm almost 6th Year (about 375 posts) and I just turned 5th Year today. o.o A little too much Gaia for me...Sorry Paraphernalia101, I'll just hang at 399 posts and wait for you to catch up! Then we can be 6th Year buddies!

399 posts? Already! No way! I have to hand it to you...I could never accomplish that, even if I tried. I get distracted by things usually...I was kinda angry that the golden globes got cancelled...but I'm glad that Sweeney Todd won! Thanks Kita for waiting for me...I'll catch up, hopefully. sweatdrop I like those quotes too vortigan!

Oh Merlin's BEARD! I miscounted like 3. -.-" Hey, Orna or LHH, could you NOT make me a 6th Year until Paraphernalia comes around? Yay, it's always fun talk with people in the guild, mostly you and Serenity right now (we're having a face-off in the "Last Letter" Game, about 5 pages long? I dunno...)...so I get distracted from other stuff to do this!

Don't worry! Hopefully I can stay behind as a 5th Year. Apparently, I flunked Potions today. I got a D+ on my report about how the magical structure of Unicorn Hair and Dragon Heartstring and what would happen if they are combined with a Polyjuice Potion.

::Shocked:: But you're so good at potions! I probably failed that one...you know I'm utterly miserable at potions. I think because I like Snape so much! A/N: the last word game confuses me!
