Alex got the kick right before he blocked Steven's bite with his tonfas.
Steven let go. He was always cautious, and even more so now because of the poison.

Alex knocked the stand that held the antidote over on Mitsuki. "Stupid..." he said.
Steven lunged again, this time biting Alex in the arm.

Alex pounded Mitsuki and Steven away, then got up.
Steven growled at Alex.

Steven lunged at Alex again and bit him in the leg. Alex began smashing Steven on the head with his spiked tonfa, but Steven didn't budge.

Steven gripped his head. "You'll pay for that" he growled as Alex got up. "Really? Show me" Alex taunted. Steven clawed Alex right in the face.

Alex took a claw and a couple slashes before punching Mitsuki in the face.
Steven grabbed Alex and slammed him against the wall.
