nu.. my friend made a point of telling me that nothing I write will every really be original because someone will have written something like it
She says that even if people think they are adding their own twists it is just a copy of something that already exists
what the point of wanting to be an author if I cant make a story that people will not have heard before?

You can generalize any story so that it sounds like all others. But it's stupid if you do.
Tell her she's an idiot and if she can't understand the different writing styles of different people, she should give up on ever being successful in life and should find a nice box to invest in. *shrugs*
