Greed dies because Ed though he killed that old witch, so he got angry, and Wrath sacrificed himself to get Ed back to his own world in the movie... They all die so dramatically crying !!!

Greed dies because Ed though he killed that old witch, so he got angry, and Wrath sacrificed himself to get Ed back to his own world in the movie... They all die so dramatically crying !!! Actually, I think Greed's death was part of Greed's plan for revenge on the other Sins. Not only would he rather die than allow himself to be trapped again, but he wanted to make sure that Ed takes out the other Homonculi as well. So his death not only freed him of being trapped in that hole again, but gave Ed the knowlege to defeat them all as well as their master.
