There was a short silence on the other line. Rei stood, frozen, holding the phone to her ear. Was this a joke? No, probably not. If they hadn't called earlier, Rei would have thought it was some kind of trick. She relaxed a little, though, for some reason. Her voice sounded familiar, though Rei knew that she must have been too young to remember. "Hello, Ki-- um... Mom?" Rei took a half-hearted guess at how she was supposed address this woman. Mommy? No, too childish. Mama? She didn't know.

Kira couldent help but smile a tear running down her cheak. She nonticedrei was trying to find what to call her "You can call me whatever your comforable with. I dont mind..." kira said.

"Oh, okay..." Rei said softly, her voice trailing off. For the past few weeks, she had been begging her mother-- no, her foster mother-- to try to find out about her real mother. The agent had seemed to show up out of nowhere, and had amazing contacts. Now here she was, actually talking with her, without her foster mother hovering over her shoulder and guarding what she could say.

"Yeah, I just... um..." Rei dug around in her room; Kira would be able to hear papers being shuffled and such. Rei had written out some questions and little statements before hand, just in case she needed something to talk about. She never expected to actually use them. "I'm, uh, I'm Rei. I'm turning eight in a few weeks. I'm in the third grade." She said stiffly, obviously reading from a card.

"Oh wow...third grade...Do you enjoy school?" Kira asked. Kai was curently playing with her foot.

"I guess..." Rei said glumly. Almost every adult who talked to her asked, sooner or later, whether or not she liked school. She was so sick of the question. "I like reading the most. But the teachers are boring."

Kira chuckled "I never really liked school....Just computers." kira said. "..Do you have any friends at school?" she asked trying to think of things to talk about.

"Yes, but I don't get to see them except at school. My mom-- uh, my foster mom, I mean-- is really, uh, protective." Rei had heard someone describe Margaret using that word. "So, what about you? What's your job?"

Kira smiled. She really had no need for a job but she had one anyways. "I design logo's and cards for diffrent companys on my computer."

"Oh. So you really do like computers, huh?" Rei seemed to be relaxing into the conversation somewhat. "Mom has a computer, but she won't let me get on it. She says there's too much bad stuffs." Bakura stormed over to Kira. "I don't see what's the goddamn point of having a dinosaur if he's going to interact with children. Dinosaurs aren't cute, nor are they safe. Barney looks like an idea someone had on pot. I mean, what the ********> He complained loudly, flopping next to her on the couch. "Who're you talking to?"

Luckly kira had pressed the phone to her chest so rei couldent hear bakura "Would you please not swear!Its not somthing I alow around Kai." she flicked bakura on the nose before scooping up kai and pressing the phone to her ear "Yes I love computers....There can be bad stuff but there is alot of stuff that can block away the bad stuff" she said heading twards her room. luckly the phone was cordless.

Bakura flipped Kira off as she walked away and stared dully at the ceiling. Rei, of course, hadn't heard a word her father had said. "Yeah, I guess." Rei said cheerlessly, looking out her window. She had a room on the second floor, so luckily she could see her mother and the agent perfectly. She wondered what they were talking about for so long. "Hey, what color is your hair?"

"My hair is blonde..." Kira said as she sat down on her bed. She sat kai beside her and gave him a small pillow to play with.

"Mine is too. It's really light, though." Rei said, taking a few strands of her hair and chewing on it. "I tried to dye it once, with Kool aid. It was supposed to be purple. It was some icky gray." Rei looked out the window again, munching on her hair. "This agent guy has purple hair. It looks so cool. Do you think he used Kool aid?"
