Even the advanced jutsus didn't seem that complex to Hiru. Probably the fact that he so completely assimilated the chakra gates section made this one a whole lot simpler. His attention was a little more occupied by the water techniques, obviously. From what little he saw of his father, he remembered him using a special jutsu, making a clone of himself out of the water. The rest of the memory wasn't particularly pleasant to Hiru and neither was his father, so he let it go. Still, he'll try to remember to ask sensei to teach him this one afterwards, he certainly owes shim this much for poisoning him!
Next, chakra seals.

Oh this was a whole new ball game. Seals had little to do with the basic or even advanced ninjutsus, they were practically a different art by themselves! It was like starting from scratch all over again on something completely different. He flipped back and forth through the various diagrams he could find in the chapter yet nothing seemed to make sense through all of this.
"Okay, let's take this one back from the beginning", Hiru thought.
Patiently, he flipped back to the very beginning of the chapter and gave it a shot.

His new try at reading the chapter did help him a lot, but he wasn't completely sure he was ready to take on the next chapter nevertheless. Hiru really wanted to be ready for his chakra molding exercise to get the most of it. This time, instead of just going through the chapter again, he compared the diagrams in the seal section with those he remembered from the gates section. Maybe this could help him put those into perspective and give him a clearer idea of the whole concept.

Once again, Hiru felt well on his way to understanding the concept of seals when his concentration was completely thrown off by the itch from the cursed poison he was administered by someone posing as a friend. He furiously slammed his book against his desk and scratched a good 10 secondss hoping he would not get distracted by this again for a good long while. He scratched and scratched against the wall and his chair until the feeling became once again tolerable.
Hiru then picked up his book and went over the entire chapter one more time.

Ok that's it, this time he had completely lost his focus. It seemed as though everything he started to understad about sealing techniques was gone. This was a common problem amongst Hoshigakis, execution was often superb but the learning process tended to be a lot more tedious than with normal students. This is why they usually study amongst each other away from the rest of the village hidden in the mist, but this wasn't an option for Hiru, he'd just have to work twice as hard.
"One more time...", Hiru thought.

This time that was it, that damn itch made him lose his concentration. Hiru knew had it not been for that stupid prank pulled by his teacher he's have been done with this chapter 5 times over, yet here he was still scratching and stuggling with the Sealing techniques section. What was at first annoyance slowl turned to intense anger nearing hatred levels for sensei, which was extremely uncommon for Hiru. He was usually the type of person who would put up with just anything, but this was more than he could accept and his anger simply grew worst and worst as he kept failing to understand this chpater only because of the itch he had been imposed.
"AGAIN", he though still.

Finally, after all this time, Hiru noticed two of the pages from his book and been stuck together by condensation, explaining how he could've spent so much time on this one section when the rest actually went pretty smoothly. This part was also intimately linked with the chakra gates he so perfectly understood the concept of so it was that much more easy for him to comprehend once he could see the whole picture.
"Well that was a whole lot of wasted time, have to be more careful from now on...", he told himself.
Next chapter was about unusual affinities, something about a wood element...

The next few pages were on Raiton, or thunder based skills. This type was still new to Kiketsu. It was not a bad thing. It just meant that his brain would need to take a better inspection of electric skills. His mind then began to wonder if anyone in Kiri new electric skills. Perhaps someone would be able to hold a lighting within their hand or call a thunderstorm for aid.
Just then Kiketsu remembered an old folk tale from his old home. It was one that many of the elder generation new and slowly seeped into the kids of the village. Years had passed since the serpent boy had last recited it. Yet he did remember it did have something to do with someone cutting a bolt of lightning in half.
That was only a legend though. No man could really do that now. Then again legends had to originate from somewhere.

Doton skills were enjoyable. It was not Kiketsu's favorite element, even though he didn't have a favorite as yet. Many would probably compare the cloud colored boy to this affinity. Strong, sturdy, unchanging, forceful, yet with an unmoving quiet side. Definitely made for one with a sturdy heart.
Turning the next page Kiketsu began to see many of the jutsus one could use with the earth. The rock village were the masters when it came to this element, although a few from Suna became extraordinary by wielding sand. What impressed the boy's brain most was how it could have been used equally for both defensive and offensive capabilities. A few techniques couldn't hurt from this affinity. Kiketsu turned to the next element.

And this he didn't get. He had always been taught there were only 4 elements and now this thing comes up and messes everything up. He wasn't completely lost in this chapter but there were too many things he didn't fully understand in there. There weren't even any diagrams to help him understand better. Hiru was tempted to just move on to the next section but finally decided it was wiser to just start this one all over again.

... and that didn't help him at all. This book was getting atrociously long he thought. He knew on some level it was worth the time and effort he spent, but hoped that they would be recognized by both senseis, especially the one who thought it'd be funny to poison him. Still able to keep his cool, Hiru flipped back to the beginning of the chapter and tried to focus a bit more as he decided to go over the chapter all over again, for about the fourth time.

Focus was all it took he realized. Hiru concentrated on each and every individual page and managed to gain a pretty good understanding of them. The unusual element wasn't exactly and element by himself but a sort of fusion of two others that had unusual results. It is therefore possible that other elements could be formed this way, other than the wood one. Hiru was pretty proud of himself, the book was nearing it's end and he understood everthing he read so far.
Okay, now for the concept of forbidden jutsus.

The part about the forbidden jutsus wasn't exactly that hard. It was more of a history of some of them and an explanation of why ninjas shouldn't be able to use it. Some Jutsus only reduce the ninja's chakra temporarily, but some others can have devastating effects on him, from slight injury to instantaneous death in some cases. Hiru understood thought that sometimes lines had to be crossed to protect certain causes, but he also understood that only the right people should be taught ways to cross them.
Now, bloodline limits.
