Couldn't get back? If he hadn't left, it likely would have been MUCH easier. After all, he wasn't even there for us when we were born! My father was or is a cad. No... I take that back. I HAVE no father. The man who helped give birth to me only has claim to me through genetics. He's no father to me.

*shakes her head emphatically* No, Alex, no, ye dinna understand! *pauses, then continues, gently* I know ye must be angry . . . 'tis a painful thing for a child te grow up without his father . . .

But ye must know that Tavin didna leave ye of his own free will, nor did he wish te stay away from ye!

Oh, save your breath, Margie. Let me show you the one thing that *I* have to remember my father by.

*Alexander rips open his shirt and pulls the sleeve off his left shoulder, revealing what seems to be a brand- A large circle, with an hourglass in its center, flanked by lightning bolts headed towards the center of the hourglass*

THIS is what happened when people looking for my Pops came around. They found US! Me, my Sis, and my Mom. He wasn't anywhere. He didn't help. Nothing. THIS is what I have to remember my father by.

Oh good Lord in Heaven . . . *stares at the brand, horrified by what happened to his family*

*has to sit down*

Oh Alex . . . I'm so sorry . . .

*Alex looks at Maggie and sighs*

Look.... I'm sorry, doll. I shouldn't have just blown my stack like that.

*Alex sits down in a chair across the table from her*

The fact is, I don't know what the deal was with Dad. For all I know he was dead before the whole deal happened. All I can say is that I simply can't forgive him for leaving us. Can you imagine what kind of horrible life it is to be on the run because your father you never met is wanted? My poor mum. Always fearing for her children..... It's a lot to think about. And its even more to forgive. That's all. You want a drink?

It must have been terrible for ye . . . I know it may be too much te ask for ye to forgive him, but I hope ye may believe me when I tell ye that Tavin would have done everything in his power to spare all of ye that pain, had he been able.

*Alex takes a deep breath and lets it out slowly*

Yeah, well... whatever, babe. Tell me, what were you and the novelist guy going to tell me about this hole, anyhow?

'Tis a bit difficult to describe . . *a bit drained from discovering all that's happened to Alex and his family since the last time she saw him, she turns to her friend to help explain* Bard?

*blinks, surprised to realize he must have missed most of the exchange between Alex and herself* I . . . that is, I was trying te explain te Alex what this place is.

Ah yes... *he sets his manuscript down*

Well.... did you ever watch Cheers?

Oh, hell yes, man. Loved that show. Dansen is a d**k, but I heard that Norm guy died.

Well, the brink is a lot like Cheers... "Sometimes you wanna go, where everybody knows your name...."

Yes, a lot like that.

Only you don't actually get to choose when you come here and it exists outside of time and space. *he finishes lamely*

*tries to follow, but gets a little confused by the reference to a television show*

*Alex blinks at Bard and stares at him for a second. Apparently thinking about what Bard said*

So..... Is my credit as good here as in Cheers? 'cuz you never saw Cliff put down a red cent for a drink. Never, dude.
