OK those didn't match... At all. Not even close...

"Maybe I need my eyes checked..." She mumbled as she picked up another rune.

He turned the vial in his hand, trying to look through and see if he could match them correctly. There was far more to runics than his little understanding with basic carving.

"But what if I need glasses? Oh man that would totally change my type and I just... No way." Abbi would not make a good meganekko, not at all...

At least...there was a nearly never ending supply of runes to pick from.

Sherry shifted her weight, she was still favoring that ankle, and reached for another rune.

She needed one more piece.

The piece she ended up with was the wrong one, it seemed. Everything just broke. At least she didn't seem to be the only one having trouble. Clearly these vials were just very delicate.

Hopefully Noemi was having better luck matching up the runes than Abbi...

( Gale #2, Alistaire #1 )

Alistaire was not going to comment on Harland's hands, and he was especially not going to think about how gentle those hands were when they were trying to help him. He cast a sideways glance at the other, face slightly flushed, and said flatly, "You are doing well already, Mr. Belle, you have succeeded in procuring two antiviruses already, it seems."

Meanwhile Alistaire couldn't even get one. He looked down at the pieces in his hands, annoyance flickering through him. Harland's head was tipped against his shoulder, and Alistaire felt the warmth seep through to his skin. Ordinarily he would have been horrified at such a public display, but he was too exhausted by everything to care much at present.

"...you are fine," he said quietly, after a long moment, and continued working.

"I've never heard of golden dogwood; is that actually a thing?" Gale asked, frowning slightly as he twisted one of the pieces, trying to get it into the right position, but failing miserably. "And I like pine for you. Pine is a good fit; something familiar, something...well, pine always reminds me of Christmas," he added, with a slight flush to his cheeks.

He'd forgotten about the fact that his hands were glowing from whatever substance they'd been steeped in. Stormy's cheek now had glowing fingerprint marks from his hand, and Gale gave a little sigh of exasperation as he looked at them. Her cold fingers touched his face and he could feel the liquid staining his skin to match hers.

His heart ached for her. "Maybe give him some time," he suggested lamely, heavily, feeling horribly inadequate and cliched even as he said it. "I mean...he loves you, they both do." Even Evan, the b*****d, though if he really loved her, he would accept Gale as not going anywhere, but that was beside the point.

"...I'm sorry," Gale said softly, after a long moment, as the vials in his hand clicked together.

She really and truly wished Noemi was doing better than her because it was a pretty low bar to meet and everyone could easily step over it.

"Yeah, all that science-y junk, a half plus a half makes a whole but none of these are fitting together. I didn't even know runes like this existed... Not exactly the ideal time for a crash course."

He laughed nervously, placing a hand on Ian's arm.

"You're right, we're gonna get out of this fine, it's always fine, no time to lose my head now. We'll go back and have our party and oh! Hey, look, you did- Oh wait, no, I don't think it's supposed to be so... all over the place. You got further than I did though!"

Shiloh watched as the pieces snapped apart with a bright glow, staring at Ian's hands. Even if it wasn't what they were looking for, it was something and thought he was concerned about what sort of substance had just gotten all over Ian's hands, he couldn't help but admire Ian as well. He was so brave, in spite of it all, and Shiloh was beyond grateful to have him at his side. He pulled his scarf out from where it was tucked into the waistband of his pants; already stained red, Shiloh was certain a little glowing goop wasn't going to hurt it as he reached over to carefully wipe off Ian's fingers.

"Remember the last time we got covered in glowing gunk?" he asked, smiling a little. Being sick had sucked, but he couldn't help but be fond of what the incident had brought about. "I know, I know, I owe you one shirt wrecking, I'll let you play with glowsticks when we get back." He laughed again, trying to keep positive in as he put away his scarf after one last inspection of Ian's hands.

"For now let's move over there, maybe I can find a match to this piece," he said, tugging at Ian's sleeve.

Harlow wasn't normally the one be grumpy and act grumpy around people that she cared about, but at the moment her head pounding was the only thing that she could think of. She just wanted to get out of there. She knew that she was fighting and she must have been hit on the head, or something. That was really the only conclusion that she could figure out at the moment.

Zascha put his hand on her shoulder and it caught her attention for a few short seconds, but as she was grounded back to reality she looked around, there was so much noise and so much going on around her. Why was it so loud? Wait...

"Survivor? What the hell happened?" Her voice was some where near disgusted, confused and annoyed. She rubbed her head and looked around. "Do we need to be doing something? What is going on?" Frustration entered her tone, she felt useless sitting here and even though her head hurt, she wanted to get all of this done with and she wanted to go to sleep, which she realized might generally be a bad idea.

Lex returned from the hallway clutching his head, barely noting the chaos of the main room and the blaring screech of Mark's stupid ratty voice over the intercom. Infected to Room C? He didn't care about the infected at the moment.

The tall Life trainee squatted in a far corner, head still in his hands. What was that thing? It acted like Ami, sounded like Ami. Where was Ami? Was she safe? God, he hoped she was safe.

"Hot chocolate, snow dogs, and birthdays," she agreed with a faint smile. It wavered. She concentrated on the runes, carefully setting them together with a soft click soon after Gale succeeded with his. Their cylinders began to glow a soft green as the antivirus was placed within, and she set hers aside.

"Time," Stormy said with a nod to him, a muted and wary optimism in her voice. "Time, a lot of luck, and a lot of begging."

Gale would know about that last one intimately.

She started to wipe her hands off on the bottom of her coat. "Don't be sorry. I brought it on myself. I was just..." There were too many words for a simple explanation, too many while on the job. "I was just being stupid," Stormy concluded dejectedly.

( Ian #1 )

"I was never good at that puzzle s**t," said Ian, giving Shiloh a smile and hoping that it was more reassuring than it felt. He lifted his hand and wrapped an arm around his boyfriend's waist, giving him a little squeeze before he withdrew it again to work more on putting together what he needed. "Yeah, we're gonna party! We still need to celebrate our new place of residence!"

The blue glowing was pretty, but Ian was under the distinct impression that it was totally the wrong thing. "I think I broke it," he admitted, a little sheepishly, and moved his hand to rub at the back of his neck, remembering, belatedly, the blue and probably smearing it across his skin in the process.

"Kinda reminds me of that one night," he said, as he followed Shiloh to where he was indicating, and then he laughed, because Shiloh had started talking about the same exact thing that had been inside of Ian's mind. "Yeah, that night you got gunk all over my shirt, you brat, when we had to be tossed into the air to fight those giant insanity creatures, and you and I barely knew each other, but we were working together anyway."

He shook his head a little, a rueful smile tugging at the corners of his lips as Shiloh attempted to get the stains off of his hands. "Even then I was terrified something was gonna happen to you, I think I was starting to like you more than I thought I was already, but I didn't realize it until later."

He reached for another few pieces and tried to fit them together, lips pressed together in concentration, but there was a small smile still on his face.

Sherry wasn't really one for giving up though. Which was why she stuck out her hand and grabbed another rune. She could do this. She just had to learn the trick of it. Or at least find the right pieces.

Slow and steady. That would...probably help.

One of the rune pieces Abbi had tried to fit together earlier and discarded had magically (obviously it was magic since her hands had failed to fit them properly) pushed together when she'd tossed them out.
Now in possession of an accidental anti-virus, she quickly pocketed it and began to work with a renewed sense of paying more attention to her work.
