She was tired of hearing that little chime as well

[ Part 4 & 5 ]

When the Jabberwock attacked a second time it dealt far more than a scratch. Shyduck tried to put up a fight but it was of no use and he was knocked to the ground, seeing stars as everything started to fade. But the stars turned into the hands of a clock and raced backward until before he knew it he was awake again, feeling rejuvenated as the second chance timer gave him, indeed, another chance.

He didn't move, staying stock still as the Jabberwock sniffed then, presuming he'd finished the job, slithered back into the trees.

Only when he was sure that it was gone, did he let out his breath.

Rhythm had exited the strange door and was thinking of another message to send Reaper to see where he was as she walked along when she heard things running and screaming. She felt a sharp pain and heard a snap as something attacked out of no where, her pocket card beeping and alerting her to her suddenly short amount of health. Realizing how strong the monster was she took off running like everyone else. The monster was fast and manged to hit her again, luckily not as badly as it had the first time.

Rainmaker paused as the trees before her rattled and shook, smoke seething from between bare branches. She frowned as myriad creatures fled from whatever had caused it--an explosion, maybe? She turned to watch them go, bemused by their warning. It was coming? What was it?

The sudden stillness brought with it the chill of dread anticipation. She turned again and caught sight of a monster that simply radiated malevolence, making her feathers fluff in agitation.

A+.

It saw Rainmaker and lunged and it hurt, startling her out of her stunned stupor. She was torn--she wasn't used to being prey for anything, ever--but she knew she couldn't take another hit like that. The creature reared back to snap at her again, and she turned and ran.

Even on two legs, she was still pretty fast (once she remembered about the two legs thing, that is). Before long she couldn't feel the oppressive presence of a hunter behind her... though she could still hear it, big heavy footsteps among the trees.

And something else. Between the footsteps and the rustling of leaves, she could hear voices - very faint at first, but then more loudly. A whimper caught in the back of her throat as she realized the voices were familiar to her. Her dam, her sire, her sibs calling her back, back to the hunt, a proper hunt on four legs and not this strange, clothed, two-legged thing.

But she could still hear the footsteps. No. She wasn't going back. "I'm sorry," she whined as she hurried on again, scrambling through some low brush that was in her way.

As she'd suspected, the footprints behind her sounded closer... and closer. Oh no, no, no. Her bright green eyes narrowed as she charged forward, jumping over a bush to get off the path. She'd hoped the thing might overtake her and charge past without realizing she'd gone a different way... but no such luck.

She yelped as she felt the thing snap at her again, and then pain followed. Ow ow ow ow ow-

The forest seemed to go on without end, all colour and absurdity, and Divinity had to wonder if he would ever be freed from this game, if game it was. Most computers one could turn off, even the golems on the island could be disabled.

When sounds reached him, he looked around instinctually just in time to see all manner of woodland creatures fleeing in the same direction.

Movement behind him was his first hint of the source of this panic and he turned back to look.

Oh.

There was no time to think before he was bitten and duly informed he was down to 10hp. He considered this and convinced he had no chance of outrunning the creature, he drew his claws.

It was a poor choice.
