He felt happy, eating and not really talking, but then a random thought struck him. He didn't know how old Daren was. Hazel eyes looked up at the tanned man, Timothy eating a scallop while he judged. Obviously the stress would make Daren age faster so Timothy was nice enough to shave off two years tops, the man didn't look that stressed at the moment and that was good. Eyes, lips, cheekbones went into the man's mind before he looked at the tanned neck, looking at the sides and the front, temporarily mesmerized by the adam's apple as it bobbed with a piece of swallowed food. Whoops staring to long, avert eyes to the hands. Calloused but still rather young. Timothy took a bite of crab with the rice pasta this time, chewing and thinking. Clothes, twenties, late twenties judging by how not very exuberant they were, or baggy. Was Daren that kid who wore his pants to his ankles? Hm, up to his hair now, checking for any whites but if there were they were so few and far between he couldn't spot them. "Aomine, how old are you?" Timothy wouldn't give him past thirty.

Daren paused at the unexpected question. He smiled a little and sat back, looking Tim over, "How old do you think i am?" It was actually a question he got a lot, and he always replied with the same question, but interestingly enough the answers varied. either the person asking thought him a lot older than he was or a lot younger. He had wondered why Tim was staring at him, but now he understood why. Tim was calculating, taking in every detail in an attempt to guess at Daren's age. He was interested to see what Tim had come up with. "Trust me, i've heard every answer on the board, so you won't offend me. how old do you think i am?"

What? No Daren wasn't supposed to do that he was supposed to answer the question! The red-head suddenly felt self-conscious about his answer, looking at Daren's features and physique in case he missed anything "Um..." Should he go with a round good number or something inbetween or what? "I think, uh," well he had to say it, I mean it wasn't like Daren could get offended if he was wrong. Unless Daren was younger. "Um, thirty?" he asked quietly, quickly taking a sip of his drink.

Daren was quiet for a moment, surprised. "well now." he sat back and grinned, "good try. you're close, really close. I'm 29. pretty old, huh?" he ran a hand through his hair and shrugged, "at least i haven't lost any hair, so that's good news for me, i guess. usually people think i'm younger than i am, that or they guess mid thirties. i think you were the closest." maybe he was finally starting to look his age. Daren wasn't sure if that was good or not, but it was something at least. "can't ask if you're surprised like i normally do. what gave me away? i don't have any white hairs i haven't noticed, do i?"

Was he wrong? Oh god he'd guessed wrong hadn't he? Timothy stared with panic until the grin settled on Daren's lips. "Th-That's not that old, Daren. you're only three years older than me." and smiled back, taking another bite. Apparently no one had guessed close to his age before. That was pretty cool. Timothy had guessed right! "What gave you away?" Timothy asked, "Well, people don't start developing crows feet until their mid to late thirties unless they drink or smoke, and your apartment was pretty clean. You don't have any white hairs that I know of either. You dress yourself rather well and appropriate but you still wear clothes of a twenty-year old so I had to give you past your mid-twenties. Your hand is relaxed on your fork and there aren't any signs of aging either. Plus your cheeks haven't started to sag to show the difference between your mouth muscles and your cheek muscles." he thought a moment. "And I thin that's it. Plus you still have a great physique underneath your clothes and it's hard to keep that in shape once you pass forty." Did he do good? Did Timothy's powers of deduction earn him a piece of apple pie?

Daren was shocked and frankly, amazed. Tim had taken a longer, deeper look than he'd thought. "that was brilliant." he rubbed the back of his neck, shaking his head, "really, well done. i'd never have thought of looking for all that. impressive." he took another bite and shook his head, "we need men with that much attention to small details on the force. bet you'd make our lives easier."

Timothy gave a laugh, surprised but pleased Daren thought it was impressive. Truth be told he thought all people could do it. His mom did it as did Andrew, and Mother only did it when she hated someone. "It's not that hard. We can also tell from the callouses on your hands that you work a lot with them which means you don't do desk work, were the callouses are show you're gripping something tightly adding pressure to those points. Of course it could be anything but I know you work with a gun a lot so that's what you grip with instead of let's say a bat or a shovel." and took another small bight "You don't have anyone on your force like that? Really? I thought that was a requirement to have someone who was a**l retentive to detail. I had to learn it, though."

Daren shook his head, "naw. I mean, most of the guys are more attentive to the small things than the majority of the population, they have to be, but not to that extent. not that i've seen at least. you maybe have 'had' to learn it, but i don't think it's a bad thing too have learned. i bet it can be damned helpful." he was starting to get full and slowing down, his mind wanting more but his body protesting.

"I guess I could volunteer there if you really wanted me too. If I have to take a test before I can do it. I could make new friends. If you want me too. I mean, I have the free time." he said with a small smile, eating the last bite on his plate and looking at the rest still on the main platter. "I think we need a box." and laughed again.

Daren nodded, "defiantly need a box..or two...or three." he chuckled and stretched, feeling happy and full, "when i get back on the force, i'll talk to Iroh. you'll be back with work again, but if you have time maybe you can tag along as an assistant or something." he signaled to the waiter who nodded, understanding they wanted boxes. "have room for dessert or are you ready to burst?"

Timothy couldn't help but stifle a laugh. he was in just such a good mood. "I'm sure they'll start me off with easy work and I'll probably have time in the evenings and weekends." and moved his fork to the main platter, deciding to nibble on a shrimp while waiting, face holding a smile that resembled a content cat's. "I feel like pinata and that dessert is going to blow me open." he turned his smile to Aomine, "really though, thank you so much for treating me to seafood. I'll pay you back somehow."

Daren shrugged, "don't worry about it, Tim. I wanted to go out for seafood anyways." He wished that the reason they came out was different, but at least Tim was happy now. the waiter arrived and Daren handed him his card before taking the boxes from him and starting to get their food ready to go. soon the waiter was back and after Daren signed the receipt, they were on their way. "to home, then? want to watch a movie or just pass out when we get back because both sound amazing to me right now."

The man smiled, extremely pleased. His day started out bad but it ended on a good note. He liked that. He'd survived, he'd done good. He deserved his seafood. Timothy took a box and helped Daren put it away, putting the styrofoam cartons into the bag and said goodbye to the waiter, sitting in the car with the meal at his feet. "I think passing out is good after today. But, can I kiss you? To say thank you? I know I need to ask permission so I'm holding back all my happiness so I can ask."

Daren started slightly at the question. Part of his wanted to say yes, to kiss Tim and see if he could move it to more. The other part was screaming 'no', that Tim had been hurt enough today. If daren kissed him, would he be able to step away and leave it at just a kiss? did he trust himself enough to agree? he glanced over at Tim and saw the happy contentment on the man's face and knew his answer. "sure, but when we get home, ok? never a good idea to kiss while driving."

Timothy stared curiously, glancing at the traffic light in case it turned green. But after a few moments Daren agreed and the light turned green. "Hooray! Thank you!" and sat there happily before glacing over and resting his head on Daren's shoulder. "We should probably go to sleep when we get home. It's been a long day."
