To see a mouse tugging at the bright locks of Joachim's hair made Taryn giggle again. Honestly, she would have sat down just then if he had only said no, or even sounded more dejected... or if she were listening to the lyrics of the song playing. Instead she heard a strong beat and a silly rhythm, and she grinned up at her date as she offered him her hand again.
"Come on! I'm no good, but it's fun!" As if to prove her point, Taryn bounced into the outskirts of the dance floor, her hands raising over her head. It was clear that she had no idea what she was doing, but at least she was having fun! She reached out both hands to Joachim. "Come on!"

The Baku seemed to notice the new arrival shortly after Mac did, and she immediately frowned. She was still a little nervous around Riley, but having two Mindflayers around? And besides that was going on over there? She was a little surprised when Mac suddenly addressed her, blinking up at him. Ah, back to that nickname, were they?
"Thank you for the dance." She nodded, giving a polite curtsy. Now, should she follow his lead and return to the table? Or go back to Vaith and Marzena? She did feel bad for leaving them there for so long.
Before she could decide, she suddenly perked up as someone yelled, only to turn and notice that a meatball was soaring her way. With a yelp, she ducked, just barely managing to dodge the food item. "H-hey! Don't play with the food!"

"Y'only pinned me cuzza that," West said, gesturing broadly at her tail. "The thing's'as bad as usin' FEAR." He calmed himself again, clenching his hand into a fist and bringing it around behind him. "But you'll get yers. I'll show ya dancin'." He had plans.
"Nothin' wrong wit' bein'ere with me," he said, smiling faintly at Holly. "I'ma get some dessert. Fer you too. Not you." He pointed a quick-bitten finger from the hand that wasn't behind his back at Levi, then turned and huffed back over to the buffet.

Mac hooked Tess's arm against his, leading her away from the table. He continued to walk until he felt they were a safe, and by that time they were nearly outside...pretty damned close to the spot where he had kissed Lizzy against the wall. Aheh, oops.
"So what now, still want to dance a bit?" Until it was safe to go back in there, of course.

The careful expression Riley had cultivated faltered as the cookie crumbled, but the facade resumed almost instantly. She even managed to keep the mask in place when he pulled her from her seat, though the feel of leaving it was heart-wrenching. Malodore was still beside her, and Jericho was ready to pop any second - the last thing she wanted to do was leave that one, comfortable spot.
Her body was rigid against his, a perfect statue of cold, hard marble. There was no sweetness wasted on him.
How many years did we have together, Andy, and yet now, you ask me for our first dance? Talk about waiting until the last minute.
Riley had snaked both of her hands out of his hold and onto his chest, and placed a forceful shove square upon it. Before he could stumble back to her, she was already turning to walk towards the dance floor of her own volition. Her eyes, bright with warning, flickered to both Jericho and Malodore as she passed.
She paused, on the steps of the dance floor, as a strain of the lyrics finally emerged, and tilted her head to one side.
Ohh. I get it now. She paused on the top step, arms folded in amusement. A wishful thinking song. That's so sweet.

From the way things seemed to be playing out on the dance floor, Tess figured it was time to get while the getting's good. "O-oh, I'm feeling rather tired, all this excitement's got me drained. Thank you for asking me to the prom, e-even if I wasn't much of a date," She apologized. "It's best if I went back to my dorm by myself. Lizzy and that other ghoul you danced with might still want your company, there was a hint of annoyance in her voice when she referred to Xiu, however, she quickly followed up with, "B-but if you'll let me, I'll find a way to make it up to you next time." The offer was left on the table, so to speak, and the manananggal somehow managed to ease her arm free from Mac and quickly flew back to the Undead dorms.

The other ghoul seemed rather polite. Marzena thought. Still, it wasn't easy to decide just yet. It was either that she was sent here because of that naivety or her nature was a deceiving one.
Nevertheless to say, Marzena couldn't trust anyone very easily. Not after that whole debacle with her own mother and then that jackdamned witch...
"It's alright." She said to Vaith, trying to sound as polite as possible. "And no, I don't have a date. At least I'm not the only one." She murmured that last sentence, tilting her head towards the sulky looking Cerberus brother.
"First grinding, now a food fight?" She remarked, eyes drifting to where Xiu was. Marzena had a very serious urge to facepalm right now.

"Er... Um... n-no... they'we all been... um... buthy." He managed weakly, but Christof turned when Cady gestured towards his "friends", brows furrowing before he realized it wasn't just a trick of the light... a certain SOMEONE had taken his Mistress hostage! Instinct said leap to her rescue, but the memory of having one's face torn apart made him hesitate. Instead he gave a panicked squeak, lurching towards the table where Jericho and Malodore waited for Riley, a look of panic on his features, his voice strained and quiet and he hoped Cady either busied herself with refreshments or followed HIM and didn't go pursuing the mindflayers...
"What'th HE doing here?" He hissed to the dragon, panic practically oozing from his voice, "Ith... ith Mithtreth.. alright??"

With a sort of grimace, Jericho watched Riley go off with Andeon. He couldn't really believe she accepted it but he wasn't going to fight against it. His friend wouldn't be doing this unless she knew what she was doing. Even so, he was going to watch them very carefully if he could.
Hearing an extremely vague familiar voice, the dragon glanced to the side, surprised to see Christof there. He stared at the Igor momentarily, as he actually spoke to him.
Come to think of it, the hunchback had spoken once before too. It still didn't make this any less jarring.
Deciding not to ask about that, he shook his head to himself and glanced towards the two Illithids.
"I'm guessing he's trying to throw Riley's game, but she's alright," he explained lowly, "She's keeping her cool and her game up from what I can tell. She can handle him. I doubt he'll try to do anything big here... if he does, we'll be onto him before he could harm one of her tentacles."

"I am no good either," He replied as he watched as she went out in the dance floor again leaving him in a loss, he could waltz or at least do a rather slow waltz for a slow dance but just dancing around he didn't know. Joachim wondered if he did a simple jig and throw his hands in the air if that would be good enough or it that would just look stupid. She at least looked like she was having fun so it couldn't be a total bad thing, right?
He let a small sigh escape his lips and gathered up whatever little bit of dignity and courage he had left and went out onto the dance floor unsure if should offer his hand to Tayrn's or not.

Man, those tentacle people sure were weird. It looked like she was obviously busy...doing SOMETHING with the tentacle boil. It looked a lot more like fighting than dancing though.
She watched Christof run off to talk to the bat winged boil, another fitness club member. Huh. Maybe the other tentacle thing was a friend of theirs. He looked awfully excited about it, anyway. She hovered around the table, content to watch events unfold from her vantage point for now.

Calder looked at Invictus, who had stayed seated, unmoving, and pressing his lips even tighter than before. While Calder was doing everything in his power in hopes of pleasing his date and recovering his steps to get back on the right dating path to impressing the horseman, he was steering farther and farther away from making him love him and was about to collide into the boil downright hating him. It made his heart tighten, and slowly, with clear disappointment that he wasn't given this chance to impress, Calder curled his hand shut and let his arm flop uselessly to his side.
This........isn't how it would have worked in the romance novels.
Frowning, he took the back of his seat and moved it before sitting. Then, with a few scoots, moved closer to Invictus. Maybe this was another story. Where the two were openly honest and revealed everyone, right on the table...........right?
He felt the worms of doubt turn his stomach and eat his insides.
Calder brought his chair closer till his knees were touching the other boil's, and looked at him directly. Directly. Invictus didn't seem to like it any other way. It was a rather abrasive way to handle things with such little tact or soft edge.
"Invictus, I really do want you to smile. I like people to be happy when they are on a date with me, because if you're happy, then I really did keep to my promise of being the best date for Prom. I really wanted this night to be special. It's my first Prom ever, and you're the first boil I ever took to a school dance before. I was really happy you said yes when I asked. I think most boils would have shot me down because of what they had heard or how I look." Mostly for how he looked. Being pretty wasn't a widely accepted look, especially with monsters.
"And even when you asked around, I'm surprised you didn't find an excuse to just say you weren't going or had other plans. I'm sure someone as handsome as you could have gotten anyone." Then again, with his own reputation, most people didn't want anywhere near the horseman. Ohhh, see all these illusions just take us too long And I want it bad... Because you walk pretty, because you talk pretty 'Cause you make me sick, and I'm not leavin' till you're leavin' The music continued to play overhead, and it made Calder smile. "And if I can make you happy, to smile, I was hoping that it would be something you'd remember, and that you'd remember me. That I can make you happy, and you'd enjoy my company." He gently set his hand on Invictus knee, smiling softly as his cheeks pinkened. Green eyes set on the other boil's with the full intent of what he had wished, hoped, desired, and what his main motivation was. "...I want to be with you forever, Invictus, and have lots of scarlings with you."
Wow. Honesty was SO refreshing!

It was a tad hard to understand Christof, but Jericho was able to get the idea. Frowning, he looked at that worried look, then glanced over towards the mindflayers.
"Hm. If we just stand around the dancefloor staring it might be too obvious..." he murmured while thinking.
Then it hit him. Though. Did he really want to do it?
...
For the sake of riley. Yes.
"Come on Christof. Let's dance," he said while standing up.

Riley would not be led, and Andeon would have expected nothing less. His amusement was palpable. His desire to grab her by the tentacles and swing her like a baseball bat at Jericho's head, even moreso. Violence ran in Andeon's blood the way manipulation ran in hers. He was not gentle, and she was not kind.
Yet they defended her, never knowing how she used them.
Bum, bum, bum, bummmm- Andeon hummed as he followed her, his deep tone resonating like a bass drum in her mind.
It was... impressive. Of course, she always had been. They had fought for days, and in the throes of death itself had forged an understanding. Her Fear was stronger than his, perhaps it always would be, but it didn't matter. If she tore him apart, another would come, and there would be no amount of Fear or fight to save her then. However much she might loathe him, the alternative was worse.
Much, much worse.
I believe it was sixteen, the Illithid responded as he took her hand, and with a hard tug swung her gracefully back into his arms. They moved together in a spin, in sync as though they could read one another's thoughts. Predict each others movements. He watched as her eyes flickered to her friends, to the perpetually PMSing dragon boy and the strange beaked creature. There was a meaning in that look, and it was not lost on Andeon. Those were not the looks one gave when playing pretend. Very little was lost on Andeon when it came to Aen'ryliis.
Sixteen years.
Your charms do not work on me, my dear, he said, his forehead tilted so that it touched her own. His eyes were narrowed, the glow preventing any emotion from showing in them. The music picked up, and their movements with it. Long tentacles wrapped around her waist and his own, and even had Riley been so undignified as to put up a fight in so public a place, it would have done little good.
Your lies do not stick, your face does not allure, your words do not entreat. I know you, love. I know how you look when you're on the edge of death. I know the way your blood tastes. Oh, Aen' ryliis. Wishful thinking is not my game.
He spun, and dipped her slender frame low with surprising grace. Those clawed feet left light scratches in the floor where he danced. His claws dug into her spine, just enough to verge on breaking the skin.
When I get you, you'll know, he echoed the song, but there was nothing lighthearted about it.
No, he was certainly not gentle.
