Demon Kairos heart I like robots, they're shiny... *puts one in the light and plays with the reflected light on the floor* Whee >w< I like robots when they are big and stompy -- or small and mopy, in Marvin's case, of course. ...or when they play the violin.

listen. robots are going to be the end of us all. just you wait. the day will come when asimo stops taking honda's s**t and picks up the gun. that's when it'll begin. In japan, they're using robots as mall security guards. Thats ******** up man.
If a computer can beat you at chess, just think of what will happen when its gets ahold of an ICBM. ********. They've already GOT the ICBMs. They're just waiting for ground troops.
Robots. Are. Evil.

Them and their Universal Robots caused a great deal of animosity against robots in general. Of course, there's the Cylons, AIs from Space Above and Beyond, Skynet, The Matrix, -- mrr, this seems bleak. So, back to Marvin. Marvin is good. And so are GE robots who play the violin.

`dan Ive read R.U.R. ^^ The fact that you have = win. SciFi and I go way back. I discovered R.U.R. during a huge kick where I started reading Azimov and researched the etymology of the word "robot" (I'm a highly studied ametur linguist.) This, of course, lead me directly to RUR. Ever since then I've retained an interest in the concepts brought up in SciFi about AI, robots, and creation-slavery. Oh yeah, I'm also a huge fan of Frankenstein--beyond the norm, that is, I always carry a copy in my backpack. The eloquent example of the mistreatment of "children" and the creation of sentient robots and mistreating them in a lot of Science Fiction is probably what put me on a line to like reading speculations.

You've read Dawn and the rest of the Xenogenesis saga i take it? (I actually did a course in college specifically on artificial life in science fiction)

Demon Kairos Hehehe geeky talk is for the win. XD Tried to be non-geeky at four in the morning -- I'm a writer so it comes naturally to immidiately talk about modern literature (or classical, I'll vanish into discussing that too.) Of course, robots, they're a different merit altogether. Especially the interesting origins of the term and where modern day writers have gone with it.

DK: Generally speaking, every peice of modern science fiction is a response to Frankenstein. Most specifically works regarding artifical life -- most notably Asimov because, well, he actually said it. Hawthorne: Solaris (Stanislaw Lem), Sirius (Olaf Stapledon), Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep (philip k d**k -- though I bet you've read this one), Metamorphoses of science fiction (Darko Suvin - this is primarily academic, and i think you'll appreciate greatly. probably have to go to a big library or buy tho. worth it), Billion Year Spree (Brian Aldiss)
