Toby hurriedly packed up his lunch and followed the 'young man' outside. He glanced around a few times, supposedly looking for Fake Nick but actually looking for surveillance and the actual Nick with his van.
"We've got eyes on you, Toby," Lori said to both men. He then offered the coordinates so he could be trailed, expertly, by the van driver. The thought that a fae kidnapping would begin and end within the same length of camera distance was silly.
"...what, in janitorial? I mean, no offense, but I don't think that's my gig."
A trust fund janitor son of an executive. Hah! The poor guy. Toby felt less and less intimidated the more he heard.

“Nah. Somewhere much better,” Jeff said, and rolled his eyes. Silly human. The poor thing couldn’t see a good thing right under his nose, could he? “My dad’s involved in all sorts of businesses, he has another not far from here.” He didn’t point, but he was looking to the right of them.
“No one could find it without my help,” he said. “You’ll see. C’mon.”

Was Toby this guy's first kidnapping? He seemed terrible at it, the werewolf thought, and he almost felt guilty that he was going to have to spoil it and let on that he knew eventually. He wanted to tease the kidnapper. 'No one can find it? That doesn't seem like a good business strategy.' He resisted the urge. He played dumb.
"Uh. Alright. We'll be back before lunch is over, right? This job sucks, but I need it." He huffed and raised a hand for air quotes. " 'Job.' "

“Yeah, we’ll be back before lunch’s up,” Jeff promised, and started to the right. He took about twenty steps—he seemed to be counting them—and disappeared. He stepped out, looking to Toby.
“C’mon, we’ll be really quick.”

Toby heard Lori laugh when 'Jeff' blipped out of existence. Toby ignored it, letting his eyes go wide with the shock he expected a human might feel if they saw someone disappear for the first time.
"Uh. Is this-- where did you go? Is this safe?"

“It’s perfectly safe. Most people don’t notice these, you must be special.” Jeff disappeared, and came back again. “See?” He shrugged. “Let’s go before your friend comes back. I think we only have a half an hour.”
“I knew their homebase had to be close by!” Nick was grinning. What luck. They’d sent out the new guy the day they’d arrived.

"Okay."
Now, it was possible that Toby was walking into a death trap. That was basically always a possibility. He was armed, though. He feigned fear while keeping an eye on his surroundings as he followed 'Jeff' in through the wall of invisibility.
"And you're gone. Can you still hear me?"

Just beyond the invisible wall was a group of colorful tents. They were almost comically similar to the ones put up during Ren fairies. “See?” Jeff gestures around. “Perfectly safe. We’re only staying a little while, while we help people. Jobs like that destroy souls.” He shrugged and led Toby towards the biggest tent.
“Father, I found another one. They had him doing data entry.”
The younger Fae seemed to disappear, leaving Toby in front of the tent. “Come in,” a voice instructed.

Well! This was far from a murder camp. Toby relaxed and looked around. Huh. Fae indeed. Funny, they seemed to have no idea that fae kidnapping destroyed entire people, body and soul.
"Can you hear me?"
"Hm."
"Alright, you in trouble?"
"Mmh."
"Okay, keep on keeping on."
Toby slowly approached the tent flap and ducked inside.

A larger, more intimidating looking Fae was sitting at a desk. There was a World’s Best Dad mug there, but it seemed otherwise out of place with the decor. There was a pen in the fae’s hand, and he looked up to study Toby.
“Ah, welcome,” he said. “Sorry about my son, it’s his first time out. I was interested to see how it’d go. I thought he’d chose you, werewolf.” He narrowed his eyes slightly, and shook his head. “Have you come to ruin us?”

Toby smiled. This must be a powerful fae, to be able to call him as a werewolf. Ancient, maybe. Certainly older than Lori. The agent's body language morphed and he returned to his confident self.
"You may want to work on his cover story. Executives' kids don't tend to have to work janitorial," he said, then furrowed his brow. "No, absolutely not. People were going missing and I was one of the people called in to check it out. I'm Special Agent Tobias Aikley with the International Bureau of Paranormal Investigation." He approached and offered his hand.

“He’s still in training,” The Fae said, and shook his head again. “I think I’ll put him elsewhere, he’s not cut out for persuasion.” He seemed to study Toby carefully, then. “I see,” he said. “I wish I could say it was a pleasure,” he added. “Werewolves are awfully gamey,” he said, and tsked. “No, you won’t do.”
He didn’t take Toby’s hand. He seemed to set sights on something behind Toby.
“Oh no, you’re not going back out there,” he called. “One moment,” he said, brushing past Toby and coming back, dragging his son by his arm. “He’s come to investigate. Dummy.”

"I mean, if you wanted to become a werewolf, be my guest. I have some interesting regenerative powers. It might be interesting to see if fae can turn. Not that I'm suggesting we try." He wasn't offended by the lack of a handshake. Many entities either didn't want to (in this case) or didn't know what it was at all.
It was not unusual to feel a person behind you in a camp like this, but it turned out that this was no ambush. Toby turned as 'Jeff' was pulled back in and offered a smile and a wave.
"Hello. My real name's Tobias. What about you, 'Jeff'?"

Oh, no. The Fae gave Toby a look of disgust. “Thanks for the offer, but no. We have our own regenerative powers.”
“Tav,” The Fae known as Jeff offered, and shrugged. It seemed to be a nickname. “We haven’t hurt anyone. They want to be here. Will you stop investigating now?” He tried pulling away from his father. “At least let me find someone actually miserable.”

"Do you? Interesting." But then the father was gone to retrieve the son.
"Tav, nice to meet you. I can see you haven't hurt anyone. We were worried about that originally, but you clearly don't mean any harm. We do need to have a conversation, though." He turned back to the man who seemed to be in charge. "Unfortunately there is some danger in this operation."
