“Mhm, and then I thought I could give you a tour of the building. You’ll be working with tech today.” Nick was busily filling out paperwork before looking up and grinning. “I’ve never done tech before,” he said.

“It’s simple stuff, spreadsheets, can you use excel?”

“Never tried,” Nick said, cheerfully.

The man looked to Toby. “I’m counting on you, then.”

Toby's brows raised as Nick talked about Excel. Oh no! Granted, he didn't use much Excel in his job nowadays either. It wasn't totally necessary. Google was definitely a thing.

"Mm-hm. Of course," Toby replied, only barely looking up from his papers, smiling and nodding again. Data entry. Imagine! This was worse than Junior Agent by far. At least the FBPI hired all of their decent interns! They couldn't afford to not, really.

Nick continued to fill things out. “Don’t worry, I’m a fast learner,” he said, and gave both of them a smile. “Ryan will know how to do it, he’s got a master’s in business.”

“We break for lunch at two,” the man continued, eying Nick. The elf had started to rock in his chair. “Er...”
PostPosted: Tue May 15, 2018 6:42 pm

"Please," Toby said softly, reaching out to grab the arm of Nick's chair. "Please. Relax for fifteen seconds. That's all I ask." He huffed and wrinkled his nose briefly, then handed over the paperwork. He hadn't read the small print, but who did?

"Thank you, Sir. Where should we head to?"

“Ah, you’re no fun, Alder,” Nick stilled with a roll of his eyes. He handed his paper work to their new acting boss and shrugged. “It’ll be a sinch.”

“You’ll go to room 309, that’s where our computer lab is. You’ll find Anthony Walhkin waiting for you. Any other questions?”

"No, Sir. Thank you."

The work was mind-numbing, which worked for Toby's frustration but probably made it more difficult for Nick. The werewolf realized that his temporary partner was high-ranking and old, and data entry had to be killing him. Toby wasn't entirely confident that Nick would be able to handle fae coming after him, though, or that he would pass for human to entity scent. For every tick Nick took down the ladder of disappointment, Toby had to take another step lower.

By the time they reached lunch, Toby was wishing that he wasn't the bait. Nick got to go out to lunch and get away from the possible threat, just in case. In reality, he'd be in the surveillance van a few miles away with a handful of agents. Lunch would be had, though.

Toby, meanwhile, had to stay at the building. He ate alone, hunched over the table. At least Mikey had been teaching him how to run on fumes.

There was a noise nearby where Toby was sitting, and then a flicker. And then, a young man with red brown hair and vibrant green eyes, was sitting beside Toby. The young man was carrying a bagged lunch, which he quickly emptied onto the table in front of him. An apple, a plastic wrapped sandwich—that seemed to have tomatoes rather than meat—a bottle of water, and a kind granola bar.

“You seem pretty miserable, I thought I could keep you company. Is today your first day? It’s mine, too. I’m Jeff.”
PostPosted: Tue May 15, 2018 7:57 pm

Toby looked up at the young man, but didn't bother smiling. People did not suddenly appear, did not flicker into existence, and certainly didn't have eyes that color. He could see why the average person would be mistaken, what with their habit of vehemently denying that anything outside of their 'believable' reality existed, but that was not a human. Whatever it was, fae or demon or benevolent spirit, it was not human.

It made him wonder if people were being ignorant, or if something horrible was happening. Could they even still see him on camera? Would his earpiece work if he'd been captured? Certainly Lori would tell him if he had disappeared, but what if he couldn't? Then again, nobody had been seen phasing out of vision. They went on break and disappeared.

All of these were thoughts that he considered in fractions of a second. On the outside, he just nodded.

"Intern or employee?" he asked, and took a bite of his sandwich. He had kept things relatively low-budget to give off the impression of a struggling young man, but damned if his lunch was going to taste bad because of it. He'd been a poor bachelor himself, he knew how to make it work.

“Employee, I’m a janitor, I suppose.” Jeff carefully unwrapped his sandwich and took a bite. “Where do they have you?” He asked. He looked Toby up and down. “Probably in their business department? What a bore. I’m only working here for the summer before I start school, my dad’s an executive.”

The Fae continued to eat his sandwich, before looking up, directly at the camera pointed at their table. “We could always go somewhere else to eat,” he suggested. “Some fresh air, have you seen the other workers? I don’t think anyone goes out! So gloomy!”

Toby shook his head slowly.

"I'm an intern. They had me in tech today." He swirled a finger in a sarcastic 'whoopee' motion. Then he chuckled. "Oh, lucky you." Was this guy seriously choosing 'spoiled trust fund baby' as his cover?

A soft, familiar voice sounded in Toby's ear. "Go for it. We've got you." Lori, back at base. There were cameras outside and ways to follow. Of course nobody knew exactly what they were getting themselves into, but Toby could handle it. Probably.

The werewolf sighed, giving no sign that he had heard anything strange. "I don't know. Nick might be out there. He drives me ******** insane."

“Tech’s fun, what were you working on?” The Fae has the air of a young man experienced with modern technology, and pulled out a phone. “If you continue working here, you’ll move right up to marketing,” he continued, rapidly texting.

“Is that the red haired new guy that kept making paper airplanes in the hall during his break? He was really ticking me off.”
PostPosted: Wed May 16, 2018 5:47 pm

"Data entry," Toby moaned, as if it were a sexually-transmitted disease. "I don't know. This all seems like a sham, honestly."

He let his head drop then, though on the inside he was laughing. "Probably..."

Toby rubbed his forehead with the back of his hand.

Lori called the tech van.

"Hey, we've got eyes on the suspect. He's trying to lure Toby out, but we need a good reason. He's mentioned you, Nick, and wanting to avoid you. Text Toby in-character. Something about coming back to eat lunch together or something."

“Oh, that’s the worst,” the Fae agreed, sympathically. Poor guy. Well, if this worked, he wouldn’t have to worry about a job anymore.

“Sure thing,” Nick affirmed, and quickly began texting. Each text came in a burst of five seconds.

Hey Ryan!
Come have lunch with me?
C’mon, my girlfriend packed too much, I need someone to share it with!
PostPosted: Wed May 16, 2018 6:40 pm

Toby's eyes closed slowly and his brows furrowed as his dummy phone went off rapid-fire. He pulled it out and scrolled through quickly.

"Oh my god, he has a girlfriend," he murmured. Then he turned back to 'Jeff.' "Yeah. Let's get out of here. I think he's coming back."

The Fae offered Toby a smile. “C’mon,” he said. “Best we hurry then,” he suggested. “We don’t want to deal with that guy.” He led Toby to the glass doors that led outside. “It’s so much nicer out here,” he said, and looked around.

“I know a place you wouldn’t have to do data entry,” he said.
