Turning away from the boy, he began his reading once again. Kiketsu had always believed in only four elements. Earth, the land beneath us. Air, the sky above us. Water, the oceans below us. Fire, the heat within us. Four elements and four styles. Yet when did lightning become one? Wasn't it a combination of
wind and fire? He had heard everyone is born with a certain affinity. His examining mind began to wonder just what a person of the thunder element would be like.

If it is truly a natural occurring affinity then it would be very useful.

Kiketsu tried to reflect back on any possible shinobi that he could have seen a lightning attack from. There was none to his memory. His green eyes had seen a number of fire jutsus, wind attacks, water assaults, and earth onslaughts. It would be interesting to see what type of attacks could be created from lightning. It would probably have a natural advantage against water. At the same time it could be a great asset to water techniques.

It would be a good asset to know a few lightning techniques. "Sensei. Do you know any lightning techniques?" the child asked continuing his research between elements.

Before his teacher could, answer Kiketsu was already onto his next topic. Now that he understood a bit more on the elements it was time for a better in depth discussion about each one. The first was the element the dread headed child disliked the most. Fire.

Well the element did have relevance. Also if his pale fingers intended to master as many techniques as possible sooner or later it would need to tame the flares of fire. Might as well get the basics now to prevent much hardship through the future. His eyes read each word carefully on katon techniques and attacks. Most took the form of fireballs or extended flames. The Uchiha clan one of the most prominent in its use.

Then a thought occurred to him. Could he have seen a Uchiha before? Probably not. His snake eyes didn't even know what a Uchiha looked like. The thought was quickly abolished in his head. Kiketsu had already moved onto the next element.

Kiketsu had heard the female's answer but kept his eyes on the text. It meant he would have to find a teacher for lightning techniques elsewhere. For now though his mind was interested in other things.

The affinity before him the serpent boy enjoyed much. Fuuton attacks were great. From the slight breath of the body one could create tornadoes and twisters. Katon was an element that Kiketsu found irrational, and uncontrollable. He saw fire as the element driven too much by emotion. Wind on the other hand represented a mix of power and deception. It was too quick and couldn't easily be seen. Yet the power it produced was great and unstoppable.

With each page Kiketsu turned he found that wind would be an element one could devote themselves too and not be disappointed.

"Oh no... not a book...", Hiru whispered. Reading was something he had never been any good at. He stared at the cover for a few seconds before opening the book. He then gazed at the first page for a few seconds. There were diagrams... a body, different lines coming from circles lined up on it. Hiru started sweating, he was trying so hard to concentrate...

"I have no idea what this means..."

Then all of a sudden it struck him, and quiet hard, this part of chakra became crystal clear to him. The body is irrigated by a series of chakra canal linked to 8 gates that regulate it's flow. The Eight Gates are eight specific points on a person's chakra circulatory system. They limit the overall flow of chakra within a person's body. The basis for the idea of the chakra gates comes from the body's limits on the functions within it. This makes the body much weaker, but it keeps the body from expiring too soon.

"Interesting...", Hiru added, surprised by his own understanding of the concept.

Hiru flipped the page, something about affinities to "elements"...

[Hiru did you make your Kiri siggy? Don't forget the -1 to all rolls even if that didn't matter for your 20 xp
And oops.. I should have called Hiru kun. >_>; I shall in the future.]

"Ah, Kiketsu-kun! We~ell..." Cassie dragged out that syllable as she pondered Kiketsu's question. "Today, we are going to learn the basics. I'll teach you the hand seals, and how to mould chakra. You can do the chakra moulding exercise as many times as you want and in varying degrees of difficulty, so it will always be a viable training method."

Another sound distracted her from the lesson, but thankfully she had already finished her lunch. "Ah... you must be... wait a second. You're definitely no guy," Cassie said thoughtfully. "You must be another one of those new students that pop up so much. What are you called? I'm Cassie. Come in!!" And no sooner than she had said that did the person she was really expecting enter. "Ah, you must be Hitokiri Batosai," Cassie said with a smile. "Okay, our class is complete. Today we are doing the basics of chakra control."

Cassie leapt up to the table and took a seat on it, before remembering that her two new students needed something to do. So she went over to the bookcase and got two more textbooks and handed them to Kane and Batosai.

"Kiketsu-kun got it right the first time,"
she said. "First, you'll read the introduction of this book, just to familiarise yourself with the basics of Ninjutsu and what it can do. And no, Kiketsu-kun, I don't... although you're right. I should probably learn some." Cassie accepted Kiketsu's probably unintentional advice with a nod and a thankful smile.

((Thanks for the comment about the sig I made the avatar edit and edited the Kiri logo to make it look more "watery". I usually don't use premade clothes but since I want the character to be as similar to the avatar as possible I kept the general idea of the clothes.))

He understood the element thing, but just barely. He knew the basics that was for sure, but those concepts were a bit too hazy for Hiru. He knew there were four, with a mysterious fifth, but that's about it. He had always been told his family had a very strong unique affinity towards the water element but he never really understood what this meant, until today of course.

He flipped the page: something about hand seals...

Hiru really didn't get this part... Sure he saw there were a couple of those, he even named all of those on that paper he had handed Cassie-sensei before leaving for the obstacle course, but there was really nothing logical about it in his mind. Why does he have to do those kinds of things to use justsus? What does it change? What do those animals represent?

He'd just have to go back on his section to get a clearer understanding of those things...

There was something mystifying about these signs to him, what he read before seemed to make sense but this was completely different. How did those hand signs interact with the chakra gates he had so perfectly understood earlier. Did they have anything to do with the elements he barely got the concept of earlier?

One thing was for sure, he wasn't done with this part, nor with the exercise itself it sadly seemed.

Hiru thought he was on the right track to understand the hand signs but just as he was on a groove that darn itch took him over and he accidentally dropped his book in an attempt to scratch his forehead.

"This was already going to be hard, I hope this extra difficulty sensei forced upon me will show in the results", he thought, frustrated.

He scratched for a good long while, picked up his book from the floor and got back to work. He went back to the very start of the section and read word by word again... for the third time.

"This is going to take me all day and all night..." he couldn't help but think.

"Mister boar walked to the tiger's den. "May I come in with my friend the rat?", he asked. "Stop monkeying around my door", the tiger answered. The rat, angered by this answer, decided to help his friend get inside "alone we may be weak, but together we are as strong as an ox!" he hoped. "

Hiru was actually starting to lose his focus and making stories with the various animals the hand signs represented.

For some strange reason all he needed to get this seemed to take a few steps back, feat which he accomplished through his ridiculous stories. That's when he realized that doing the hand signs were a way of helping the ninja mold chakra more easily. Experienced ninjas in a certain jutsu could conceivably one day accomplish it without having to do all of those before casting it.

"I don't know how I could have started molding without first knowing these basics!", Hiru suddenly realized.

He tehn moved on to the next chapter, the title said something about "Basic jutsus".

Now this surprised Hiru a lot, he actually had a pretty good understanding of how the basic jutsus worked. He felt confident about both moving on to the next chapter of the book and learning these basic skills himself in the near future. He was not only confident about learning those though, he was actually extremely excited at this idea and could barely stand still reading his book. He barely realized it, but his hands, feet and arms were slightly twitching as he visualized each and every move.

Now, on to the more advanced techniques.
