Funny enough I saw ASL in your sense used on a meme yesterday. But yea, it's definitely hard to avoid creepers on a dating site, and even when I was single I wasn't too fussed about finding someone, definitely not enough to want to deal with creeps.

I don't think I forget one language when beginning another; it's just if I go too long away from a language I begin to forget it. I think I'd be fine simultaneously learning and utilizing languages. If I had the time to learn more than one at once that is. In Europe they think of American Sign Language, at least thus far anyone it has come up with (which is surprisingly a fair few), they know that's what ASL is even if it's not what they use. I haven't encountered anyone here that knows any form of Sign (American or otherwise) though so guess that is interesting.

Ha, funny when things like that happen.

For me I just get the two language forms and words too mixed up, and then can only think in one grammar structure. It probably wouldn't be as bad if I wasn't comparing two languages as radically different as German and Japanese though. That's interesting though, that people know the acronym in Europe, considering not a lot of Americans even know it. Wonder why they even talk about American Sign Language there?

That's true, an Eastern and Western world language would be hugely different. Greek and French are of course very different, but they have many similarities in terms of grammar structure, word forms, etc. And then both also relate back in to English. This is also probably why people can study something like five European languages no problem, they do have a lot of similarities. It does give me hope in at least achieving my classic goals within my lifetime (Greek, Latin, French, German, Italian and probably Spanish).

I am not sure, deaf Americans visit here too? There are probably heavy similarities between types of sign language as well. Also ASL generally comes up in the context of a language discussion for me, so it's not hard for someone to connect the dots if they've even heard the phrase once before I guess.

Yeah, haha, maybe I should just stick to hoping for Japanese and Korean eventually. Their grammar structures are virtually identical. Plus Korean actually has a phonetic alphabet only, so no. Kanji. *ecstasy*

Haha, yeah, that makes sense. I sometimes forget that most people are better at figuring acronyms out than I am. XD

Sounds like a good goal. And Kanji is intimidating so I understand your ecstasy. I mean Greek characters are hard enough to write, and at least for the most part you can recognize letter equivalents between Greek and English.

I'm fairly good at figuring out acronyms I've heard before. If it's a bit more obscure, even in context I might not catch it right away.

On topic, have you watched the abridged film yet? I noticed it was up yesterday but didn't have the energy to watch it all. I kind of want to watch it all at once. Not sure if I'm going out tonight, if I don't maybe I'll watch it after I finish with my proposal stuff. If not probably by this weekend. I still kinda want to see the actual film. Not sure if the abridged version will ruin it for me, though that seems highly unlikely with a YGO film. razz

Ah, well kanji isn't so difficult to write once you've done it enough; stroke order and flow becomes natural. The hard part is just memorizing which ones are which, for reading or writing. And all of the different readings each kanji has in each context, ugh.

Yes, I watched it. XD It was actually very conveniently posted for me, because I was roleplaying late, and usually when roleplaying I do something productive between posts (and by productive I mean read fanfictions/webcomics I've been meaning to read or things like that), but I just was too tired and not in the mood for anything that had that much reading, so I thought, "I just feel like watching funny videos. Wonder if I can find a topic to watch that will keep linking to more videos of the same topic." So I went to Youtube and bam. Three new LK posts for the movie. It was like exactly what I was looking for at that moment, and it made my night. XD Gave me something to do between roleplay posts. It was quite funny. I still feel like it's not as funny as some of his older stuff, but that's been the same with all LK's recent videos. Still genius, just not his golden era work. Yami Yuugi and Yuusei cracked me up in it though. And it will ruin the plot for you, but honestly the plot isn't anything special. The movie is extremely generic and mostly dueling. It was good because it was bad, you know, one of those movies.

Memorizing would probably be the easier bit for me, I am rather adept at that. However I'm not much of an artist, and even my Greek letters are barely passable.

Lol, love your definition of productive. I figured it was one of those movies so I'll probably watch it now actually, unless I feel like watching TV. Just finished editing my phD proposal and sent that to my adviser, but currently at the bfs trying not to distract him from his essay just because I'm done with my work. So a little headphones and TV will probably be what I get up to.

See, the problem is there's just so many that look similar, you get mixed up what to write for what, and then tons of them have the same readings. Kanji alone is like learning a second second language. And you don't need to be an artist to write kanji; my handwriting is atrocious even though I'm a drawing major. It's just as bad as my English handwriting, because it's still that; handwriting. Not drawing (though I wish it were).

Okay, cool. Hope you like it. XD

Well I'm wretched at handwriting too, so that's not quite a saving grace for me. xd I've never really gauged how well my memory would work with a large number of similar symbols. I'd definitely love to give it a shot, but I doubt I will in this lifetime. stressed

And I did get to the abridged film yesterday, I did enjoy it, especially the songs. I think he did some great things with the soundtrack in that.

Haha, well there's that. Awww, too bad though.

Yes, and I actually quite enjoyed Jadon's annoying rap songs. XD I like Jadon better in Abridged than in the actual series.

Haha, I agree. I've only seen a few episodes of GX, but he is SO annoying. But as a parody that quality is put to good use. razz

Yeah, he's like annoying, but in a funny, and even somewhat cute way. XD

Yea, I have a feeling if I ever got into GX he'd probably be one of the characters I like best, though that's part of why I never got into GX. Kind of like with Pokemon, Ash (who sort of makes me think of Jaden) out of context is probably not a character I'd like as much as Ash in comparison to the characters he is set around. There's nothing wrong with that type of character. I just haven't really felt like pursuing a series that revolves around that specific type lately. If I ever have enough foreseeable free time I do want to give 5D a shot though. And regardless I eventually want to check out BBT.
PostPosted: Thu Nov 17, 2011 3:42 pm

You'd like Jadon best? o.o I hate him in the show, but I meant he's cute in the Abridged. XD But yeah, he does remind me of Ash, who I also hate. I get way more attached to other characters, like Brock and Jessie. I still plan for Genex to be my next big series I watch though, once I find time. Then 5D's, which I'm more excited for. BBT?

I don't know enough GX characters to say for sure, in general most annoyed me though. That's the thing, liking best does not = liking. I guess eventually I ended up liking Ash because of the fact I pretty much liked him best, and I don't think I could stick with a show very long if I never formed any attachment to anybody. I hated Brock and Misty (though I stopped watching when they were both gone, because I definitely hated May even more, and I felt Brock and Misty were the proper fit in spite of my not liking them), I went back and forth on Jessie. I probably liked her, but she got on my nerves. James was my favorite character. And I really liked Gary, but he's only in a handful of episodes.

Lol, Bonds Beyond Time. Sorry, I've really got to stop assuming with the acronyms. It's just even LK has the abridged video labeled as BBT abridged. xd
