Brother Felix Greetings puny guardsmen I am Lord Felix of the Iron Warriors. I've stopped by to go on about the fact that I will have a Basilisk soon. woohoo!!!! You tie up more points in your long range s**t and we'll beat you even more easily. Especially since you can't hide your armor 9 vehicle unless you make it fire indirectly at which point you are an idiot since you probaly can't put that extra range to good use before we move our entire army into it's min range.

Do you even have an Imperial Guard codex? Seeing as the Bassie does not have AV 9 on any side.

Lt_Brookman Brother Felix Greetings puny guardsmen I am Lord Felix of the Iron Warriors. I've stopped by to go on about the fact that I will have a Basilisk soon. Oh, I am so scared! Big whoop, it's still an open topped BS3 tank with limited uses on the battlefield. Might as well just take a Vindicator. BS about how we should quake in fear aside, today I am going to make my guardsmen more pious by the liberal application of purity seals and trinkets of the Space Marines tac squad boxed set. limited uses?!! most people think the basilisk is usless but it's not! it is very good at pinning down units in cover (they gotta fail that LD test sooner or later) it is a barrage weapon so it minus 1 from LD as well i think. it can bring artilery support to amoslt any part of the battle field when a lemus russ would have to drive there first AND with strength 9 it (somtimes) can be used to kill vechicales, although it's a little inaccurate

Bassies have great range and hitting power, the simply lack armour and when in Indirect firing mode, the gun has a minimum range of 36". Uhm, hello? Am I one of the few seeing the point of 36" wasted here? Sure, you can use it as a direct fire weapon, but it's AV 12 frontal armour wont hold up long at all in the open, as the enemy will close in.
I want my fecking Griffon restored in honour again you measly weasels!

Honestly I don't like ther Basalisk a) or its limited range (and I have only found it useful in indirect fire situations), and 2) I think it costs too much, its a 125 point vehicle that will die turn 1 if left out in the open.
My artillery choice: The Griffon. Its only 75 points, so you can take three for the cost of two basalisks and still have points left over, and its ordnance template will kill anything, even if it does have AP4, i have never seen it fail to kill off some marines.
Just a side note, remember, in the guard redundancy is your freind, multiple of two or three are allways better than one.

Imperial Guard: morter/ heavy weapon teams; other basilisks, officer squads (followed by infantry squads with out officer support) Space marines: devistator squads, whirlwinds Chaos: Defilers/ heavy weapons Tau: light battle suits hiding behind cover, any infantry Tyranids: those giant bugs that only move 6 inches per turn with the cannon i forget what they are called Orks: Arterilery; orks on foot; looted tanks Necrons: this is the one army that the basilisks would be near usless against because they are all fearless but shooting the slow moving infantry would kill them with AP3
