I love playing the french horn!!! I've played it since 7th grade and am in 10th right now!!! I hope to still be playing it in college 2!!! When I was going to try out to be in band in 7th grade I wanted to play the clairnet and my mom wanted me to play the flute!!! But the band director said that i would be better on the french horn!!! So im glad he said that cuz if he didnt i would be playing the clarinet right now and i would have never met my one of my best friends!!!
O and i have also noticed that the majority of the people that play french horn are mainly guys *or at least where i live anyway*!!! Cuz in 7th & 8th grade i was the only girl!!! in 9th there were 2/5 girls and in my section this year there are 6/13!!! But its reallly not that bad!!! But some of the guys usually do get picked on cuz the french horn is "a girl instrument" *or so it is labeled by many people...including band people themselves*!!

The horn sounds better though. and yes i do play horn its really awesome but im the only one at my school... so i guess that makes me section leader... I had a solo with the mellophone during marching season and a duet! (oh and please its not a french horn its horn... the music you play says horn in f or f horn not french horn...)

Most of the horn players I've met in high school are guys. In middle school, most of us were girls. I think it's about half and half, but with a few more guys than girls.

GhostOfYou16 O and i have also noticed that the majority of the people that play french horn are mainly guys *or at least where i live anyway*!!! Not where I live. I know mostly girl Horn players. In the All-City band last year, there were two guys and six girls, but everybody was really nice, so it really didn't matter.

I've been playing the horn since sometime in middle school. Now I am in college and even though I don't play in any sort of ensemble I enjoy picking it up now and then.

God. I love. French horn. I used to play flute and then the French horn section leader who has since graduated [we refer to her simply as Goddess] told me I would be a much better horn. So I switched in my freshman year. I. Adore it. 8D I'm a junior now so I've only been playing for about three years now. I'm first chair out of four in my section in symphonic band, and the section leader in my marching band. I adore it. :3
Though my mellophone is basically a piece of twisted metal... it has gotten dropped so many times before I got it [it's the school's, obviously] that eventually the stupid thing crumpled entirely and I personally got to pay for it. It's better now but I refused to pay for relacquering so it's pretty patched and sore looking. Haha.

Irony of ironys, the day I get accepted here, I see an ineteresting community in the Spotlight section of Live Journal: http://community.livejournal.com/hornplayers/ Good times. Laptop battery's dying on me, so that's all for now. Laters.

I just started the French horn today. It is totally amazing. heart I couldn't stop smiling afterwards. The guy helping me out said I was doing good, but I can't really can say if he was trying to be nice? Anyway I played from the C# below middle C to the C above middle C (my, thats a confusing sentence). I really really hope my band director will let me play it for good. that would be amazing. heart
