That evening....
The hexcitement had not faded in between the pep rally and the big game. Students, some still clad in their ghoul spirit outfits, and others opting more radical ways of showing their spirit (like Dougie and Romulus, who'd opted to paint their entire bodies pink and black and go shirtless to the game) all filtered in and had their seats in the bleachers outside around the Fright Field.
There was even more news to get the students hexcited; the curse that Cleo DeNile's amulet had put on the Fear Squad had worn off enough that the "A" squad was back performing on the sidelines. They needed bullhorns to blast their fears out to the crowd, but it was a definite step forward from where they'd been all week.
Next to the announcer box sat two thrones, decorated in silver, magenta and black - the thrones for the Tombcoming Scream Queen and King. As the Granite City Quarry and the Monster High Nightmares both warmed up on their respective sides of the field, students wandered over and checked out the thrones, sitting on them and snapping pictures, and gossiping about who they voted for.
The antici
pation in the air was so thick it could almost be cut with a butcher knife. Who was the King? Who was the Queen? And could Monster High defeat the Quarry?
Standing in the booth, the Headless Headmistress was handed a note by Iris Clops from the Gory Gazette. She read it, nodded and smiled, folding the note back up. Whomever won the Tombcoming polls, she approved of the winners.
15 minutes to game time. She would announce the results of the polls just before the coin toss that would determine which team would choose who would start with possession of the ball in the game.
15 minutes that, for several students, felt like an unlifetime. Every candidate for Scream King and Scream Queen, even Chase and Dashner, were standing in the entryway where the players normally made their way from the locker rooms to the field. In just 15 minutes, they would all be grimtroduced, and the winners announced. The rest of them would sit down or rejoin their team on the field.
The candidates were arranged in pairs (for the most part) for the presentation.
Dashner Hawke was paired with Draconia St. George.
Ronan Aalto was paired with Meme Pennywise.
JD Leeds was paired with Ascreama Poweurgh
Rory Bludworth was paired with Marceline Laghede.
Nero DeSphinx was paired with Vinnie Lovecraft.
Kai Merha was paired with Jewels Underne.
Chase Q was paired with Vanissha De La Luz.
And Gryff was paired with, well, himself.
With 5 minutes left till game time, the Monster High Fright Song started to play over the PA, and the couples were grimstructed to step out onto the field.
"Students of Monster High, here are your candidates for Tombcoming Royalty!" The Headmistress announced from the booth. The students cheered as the boos and ghouls stepped out of the darkness of the hallway into the blazing lights of the open-air stadium.
"The ballots have been counted, and despite some very close votes, we have a clear winner for Tombcoming Scream Queen and Scream King. And so, without further delay, here are whom you, the student bodies, have voted for...."
HH Bloodgood opened up the note she had been given and read off the names contained on it.
"Your Monster High Scream Queen for this school fear is.....Jewels Underne!"
A roar of approval went up through the crowd.
"And your Monster High Scream King is....Rorrim Bludworth!" Another roar went through the crowd, followed by a chant of 'MON-STER HIGH! MON-STER HIGH!'
"Congratulations to our winners!" The Headmistress called out to them. "Please come and take your places at the ceremonial thrones!"
Members of the Fear Squad came forward and presented Rory and Jewels with their crowns and sceptres as everymonster in the stadium stood and applauded. The newly crowned Scream Queen and King stopped to thank the rest of the candidates, who were now officially their Scream Court.

Jewels waited fanxiously with the others, resisting the urge to cling to Kai and instead wringing her hands nervously. Had they campaigned enough? She was starting to doubt it. The other ghouls were so much more vivid and popular than she thought she was, and so, when her name was called for a moment, she was convinced she'd misheard.
Someone nudged her in the back, urging her forward and she slowly realised she wasn't dreaming.
"I... I won?" She squeaked, as the crowd erupted in a massive cheer.
She stumbled forward and grabbed onto Rory's arm.
Overwhelmed and deliriously happy. She looked back at the other ghouls, eyes wide and tears threatening. The light hurt her eyes despite her tinted lenses, but she didn't care. She WON!
She was shaking when the crown and sceptre were presented, and looking to the other candidates, she mouthed "thank you" and, overcome with emotion, pulled each and every one of them into a tight hug.
Tears were flowing freely now but she didn't care, people were chanting her name and it was uhmazing.

A small voice rang up from somewhere in the horde of cheering students, family and faculty. Perhaps heard, perhaps not...
"Aw boo! BOOOOOOO!!! Gryff was robbed! ROBBED! I demand a recount! I DEMAND..."
"Sit. Down!"
Lin turned and saw the very formidable looking woman with long dreads and 'cat eyes' staring, no, glaring at him from the seat beside where he was standing. The poor little gremlin swallowed hard and climbed down and scurried off back to where Atomica was seated, looking just as disappointed.

All of the blood rushed to Rory's head when his name was called, and Rory could have sworn he felt eighteen separate new stress cracks carve into his shiny skin.
"I-" Rory's voice cracked spectacularly. "I was- I mean, everyone-, I mean...."
His mouth gaped open and closed a few times, goldfish-like, before it occured to Rory that he probably looked very silly. He snapped his mouth shut and turned to Marceline. Even without her skullish makeup, she'd have looked unbelievably pale.
"Marceline, I-I'm so sorry, I-" Rory was cut off by Jewels grabbing his arm and the two of them being thrust into the floodlights. The lights reflected off of Rory's skin, nearly blinding some cyclopses sitting in the front row of the bleachers. Rory smiled sheepishly and rubbed the back of his head.
This wasn't how he imagined it...

"Good Show!" Draconia applauded her claws off as Rory and Jewels took center stage, feeling all of her worry and fear about being thrust into the spotlurk dissipate. "Jolly good show!"
Draconia was truly happy for the new Scream Queen and King. Jewels and her beasties had rallied so hard to campaign, and Rory had struggled so long just to be allowed to attend Monster High. Screams do come true, Draconia thought to herself as she and the rest of the 'Royal Court' were now allowed to take their seats up with the rest of the crowd.
Draconia sat down next to Glen and gave him a hug.
"Thank you so much for campaigning for me, Glen. You're a true boo friend to the unliving end." Noticing Glen's mother sitting behind them, she stood up, gave a formal curtsey and grimtroduced herself to Emeralda's guest.
"Hello, you must be Madame LeVeau. I'm Draconia St. George. I'm pleased to meet you!"
Out of the corner of her eye, Draconia spotted Whinnie and Devlyn taking their seats, 13th row in the End Zone. They were right between the goalposts.
"Hope this works..." Draconia muttered under her breath as she sat back down.

"Dang." Kai snapped a claw. He was disappointed, of course, but it was really his own fault he hadn't garnered more votes. He'd been distracted fanging out with Demona and working on his Art show project more than campaigning for Tombcoming votes.
On the bright side, at least this meant he could sit next to Demona and not in the notoriously non-tail-friendly throne seat. Kai lined up behind the other boos who hadn't won and shook Rory's hand. He stopped before Jewels and gave her a big, fangy grin.
"Way to go, ghoul! This dance is really going to be your hour." He reached down and gave her a hug. Then, it was time to clear the field and let the football players do their thing.
Kai plopped down next to Nero and Demona and took her hands in his claws.
"Sorry I couldn't be your Scream King, bootiful."

Ronan looked to Meme and Ascreama.
"Those are tears of joy yes?" He indicated Jewels, struggling against her as the mole ghoul pulled him into a hug and then moved on.
"We should sit." He tilted his head at the two ghouls. Was Ascreama still in a funny mood? He had to admit, he was a little worried about her. Maybe it was just the stress of this scream queen thing, now it was over he hoped she'd go back to her usual bubbly, goopy self.

"I KNEW I should have hacked Monster High's database!" Atomica folded her arms and pouted. "These students here just don't know what's beast for themselves. If I'd have changed all of their votes to be for Gryff, then maybe they would have seen the light."
AND, Atomica thought to herself, sadly, everyone would have gotten to see Gryff's grimterpetive dance, the secret one he had crafted by himself, that was so incredible and so indescribable that no one else could witness it, because even one other person viewing it would have made it too mainstream.
Gryff had promised - no, Gryff had MANDATED, that if he had won both Tombcoming Scream King and Scream Queen, that he would have performed the dance, once, for everyone. No recording allowed. And only once. It would have been the greatest performance ever witnessed by monster eyes.
And now, NO ONE would see it! Ever! Truth be told, Atomica did not understand one iota of any of Gryff's grimterpetive dance when he did deign to show her and Lin. Since Gryff had said it was so great, though, her software (which had been slightly reprogrammed to understand that everything Gryff said was the truest truth ever) insisted it was a huge loss for the universe at large.
If only everyone else had been able to witness this one dance, then they would have all understood how totally clawesome Gryff was and people would stop insisting to her that he was 'wow, just such a jerk' whenever she talked about how great he was.
"HMPH." Atomica put her elbows on her knees and defiantly stuck her chin in her hands. She was going to sit through this game, but she was going to raise her pout subroutine to it's absolute maximum energy allocation so that everyone around her knew how UTTERLY unfair all of this voting for other monsters was.

Jewels stared up at Kai, and returned the hug, a little too tightly.
"Thank youthankyouthankyou" she sobbed, pulling away and wiping her face on her sleeve.
She waved a vague goodbye, then joined Rory at their thrones.
"I... am sorry your ghoulfriend didn't win." She whispered, though in truth, she was still convinced this was all some sort of dream. First her theme had been chosen for tombcoming, now she was tombcoming queen? It was all too much to take in. She fiddled with her sceptre, it was bootiful but it all felt so unreal.
"I'mgonnawakeupanymoment..." She mumbled to herself, hoping she could dream just a little longer.

"NOO!" Vanissha' voice was in full blast, well kinda. It wasn't nearly as loud as it could have been, so only the people near by had heard her.
"B-But, A-screama..." She whined. She was supoed to win!! Just so she could teach that heart-breaker, Ronan a lesson!! Now... Now they have to find some other way to do it.
"Don't worry Acreama! We'll get it next round."
She patted her gooy-friend's shoulder, she look so sad, and heart broken. sad She was having a bad day.
"The good news is Jewles won!" She said trying to help be more upbeat! hoping it would rub off on Ascreama.
"Congratulations Jewels!" She clapped for her before it was time to back to the Fear Squad.
"You did a very nice thing for your friend, Vanissha, don't look so down ghoul-friend." Clawdeen's voice was a bit more on the sassy side, as her voice returned.
"Yeah, even if it wasn't for the best reasons..." Frankie nervously whispered.
"Thanks everyone I just--" Vanissha was about to say something when Cleo interupted.
"We don't have time for this ghouls, although the b-squad did a clawsome jb in our--Ahem!--absence, we are the true fear-leaders of Monster High, lets show them why!" Cleo picked up her Maga-phone and the Fear leadeas followed in suit!
"Go Monster High! Go!"

Rory eased himself into the Scream King throne next to Jewels and gave her a crooked grin. It was a great view of the whole field from this high up, though Rory wished it was closer to Marcline and the rest of his friends.
"So.....uh...." Rory looked at Jewels. "What do we do now? I-I mean-"
Rory tried to explain what he meant, even though he really had no idea what he meant.
"D-do we dance together at Tombcoming? O-or do we have to take our class pictures together? Do I need to pick you up for Tombcoming, because I sort of already have a date and it's going to be very awkward-"

"She Won!! She Won!!"
Tori couldn't contian her hexcitment!! And hugged Sally tightly!
"This is going to be the Beast Dance Ever!! Jewels is Queen!! We Did It!!"
Tori jumped for joy with Sally in her arms... Then she blushed. "Opps! Sorry!" letting go of the hug and trying to clam down. she still shouted over the roar of the Monsters in the crowd.
"Do you want to go to the dance with me?"
Why not? Neither of them had dates, and this late in the game anything could happen, but she at least wanted to have a good time with a friend, now that Jewels would be busy with Royal Duties and her own date.

"I uh.." She couldn't help but stare at Rory, he was so shiny and reflective. She was dazed for a moment, then shook herself back to reality. "Idon'tknow... " She frowned a little, were they supposed to share a dance? Well one dance wouldn't be that bad would it?
She hoped his ghoulfriend wasn't too sore a loser.

Tori Underbridge And hugged Sally tightly! Sally was cheering with Tori, so much that she hadn't even noticed the hug at first. She just hugged her back "She won! She won!" she said with Tori. She looked at Tori when she started jumping, but just nodded when she let her go. "Do you want to go to the dance with me?"Sally tilted her head. Well, she didn't have a date anyway. She shrugged and nodded "Sure, that sounds fun." she said. Sounds fun? Seemed like she was getting the hang of what fun really was. She smiled to herself.

Melody Nocturna Although Melody didn't not enjoy sports, she was happy to support her friends and the schools team with Roswell and her friends by her side, "Go and rekill 'em, boos!" He whistled loudly for the King and Queen! Grinning, he looked to Melody, as his imagination took hold and he pictured He and his Ghoul on the stage waving to the fans! -- uh-Audience- uh Monster high!! He blinked back to reality. "I just pictured us up there, but instead of King an Queen, were were signing a duet together at a concert. Aint that Steller!!?" biggrin
