She didn't understand why Jess was nervous about River's father at all. Maybe River's parents hadn't fully warmed up to the idea of their daughter marrying. She waved a bit as they disappeared out of sight before motioning to her brother to continue following her.
"Let's it, it's probably getting late so I don't want to bother Shiro for too long."

"He's a cat," Andarien pointed out as he followed after Miyuki. "He probably doesn't care how late he stays up."
Ponydash snorted his disagreement.

"Shiro has a lot to do during the day, and unlike Kaito he can't just nap the day away, and he won't," Miyuki reminded Andarien.
If it was Kaito, yea she could see that for certain, but Shiro was his brother's opposite in that regard. Once they finally reached Shiro's room, Miyuki paused and looked to Andarien.
"I can't knock..."
Her arms were full with Ai.

Andarien stepped forward right away and knocked at the door for Miyuki. It was only a moment later when the door opened, and there stood Shiro, bundled up in a thick sweater.
"Oh, I was hoping you'd stop by," he beamed, opening the door wide. "Not too loud, Kaito's already asleep. But come on in, come on in. Miyuki, I have that book for you."

Miyuki stepped in and realized right then she would have to put Ai back into her ball. There was no way she was carrying Ai and the book at the same time.
"Thank you," Miyuki murmured softly, "I hope you don't mind but Andarien and I have a question or two. Eon evolved during another spar tonight and there are some things we would like cleared up."

Shiro nodded. "Of course. Come over to the fire so I can see better."
Despite the candles that were lit, it was still rather dark in the room, and near the fire was the brightest area, though even that was still not very bright. Eon padded forward silently, and aside from the gently pulsating blue glow of the rings on his body he was just about invisible in the darkness.
Shiro watched Eon thoughtfully as the others made themselves comfortable by the fire.

Miyuki took a seat by the fire and set Ai down. She stroked the Espeon as she did so, the wounds weren't healing as fast as it was during the day, but that wasn't a surprise to her. It was night after all.
"After their spar, Eon used Heal Bell, he told Andarien that Ai had been poisoned sometime during the fight but we don't know when."

Shiro frowned and knelt next to Ai. "That's not good," he said quietly. "Pokemon attacks and effects can affect anyone, not just other pokemon, and not only in battles. If something affected Ai, it could affect any one of us. And it can be transferred in any number of ways ... so it might be wise to make sure no one touches them until we find out what caused it."
He looked at Miyuki. "And we'd better test you and Andarien for poison now, too. Just in case."

"Oh...." Miyuki looked down at Ai.
It had never occurred to her that it might be something that could affect her. She set Ai down carefully.
"How do we do that?"
For that matter if they were poisoned, how would they treat it? Heal Bell?

"I have no idea," Shiro admitted, scratching the back of his head sheepishly.
Eon stepped forward and said something in his little noises.
"He says he can taste it," Andarien translated for him, looking at him curiously.

"Well....." Miyuki mused.
She didn't feel any different, but it was better safe than sorry.
"How about if he licks Ai and himself to see if there's still poison? If the poison is coming from Ai, then I should have some on myself too since I was holding her."

"Sounds plausible," Shiro agreed.
Eon sat back on his haunches and licked his leg to see if there was any poison. There didn't seem to be any, and so he turned his attention to Ai. He licked the top of her head, then turned back to Andarien and shook his head.
"None," Andarien murmured with relief.

"That's good," Miyuki was also relieved but she was also confused and thoughtful, "I wonder if that means only under certain conditions they might be poisonous? I know neither Andarien or I ordered any poison attack."
Though that did make things really confusing, did that mean they would have to take precautions around their pets now?

"To be fair," Andarien spoke up, "we kind of gave up giving orders and let them go at it on their own for the second half ..."
Miyuki had given up first, and Andarien had stopped when Eon had evolved.
"Eon, when edid you first notice that Ai was poisoned?" Andarien asked him quietly.
Eon looked at Ai for a moment, then looked back at Andarien and chattered. Andarien turned back to the others.
"He didn't know Ai was poisoned until after Ai gave up and Eon went to lick her wounds," he said quietly. "Ai, did you know you were poisoned?"

Ai looked up at Andarien and gave her own version of what had happened. She had noticed she was being poisoned near the end, but it didn't seem worth to use Heal Bell to keep going.
In fact she had intended to use it after the fight was over.
