It has absolutely nothing to do with damage levels.

Firearms are, by fact, poor for roleplay combat because people find a way to get confused by placement and movement for melee weapons. Magic, through its various forms and shapes, tends to operate similar to a physical medium (e.g. a fireball operates as the suffix -ball).

A firearm?

"i shot it at you" "i rolled out of the way" "no f** no you didn't i shot it faster" "yeah and it scathed me by an inch"

^----90% of firearm combat in roleplay. The fine line between the gunman getting free and massive damage inflicted, and the victim going "loldodge loldodge loldodge loldodge" is a single hair fine.

Add in that nobody likes to implement natural firearm restrictions including but not limited to:

-Not carrying ******** 30 clips to reload FOR FIGHTING ONE PERSON.
-Gun failing or jamming.
-Natural hesitation/shaking; everyone fires with unnaturally unerringly perfect hand control like they're a robot.

....and it just gets really, really shitty. I honestly never want to see it catch on.

Love your characters thoughts on talking ^.^ If the judges weren't LAZY BASTARDS (jk) I would have entered another character who had an ability that allowed as much dialogue as a person wanted in an action with no ill consequences... Very interesting character needless to say ^.^

Sigil Warden
In reality, burns are horrifically scarring, painful, and damaging on a physical and psychological level, far more so than any bullet wound.

And yet, characters shrugged off flames that were hotter than a damn blast furnace when they were fighting Fireside.

This is true.

However. The Trope stands. To us it reads as less ridiculous to stand up from a torrent Vahn Fah's Black flame than it does to stand up from Ko Yuen shooting them in the chest.

I'm not saying it makes sense. Its just how it is.

It would have been a pair of smoothbore dueling pistols with wheelock mechanisms. That's two shots, that are only accurate out to like... 15 feet.

Thank you. ^^

Wait, you have a literal "Talking is a Free Action" ability? That sounds awesome.

As opposed to your current one, which can take as many actions as you want in a single post with no ill consequences?

People always take damage with a grain of salt, it's part of the suspension of disbelief of roleplay in most cases. It's the same way as in action movies - look at any fight in any given action movie and chances are, the people are eating way more punches than is remotely realistic for bareknuckle brawling. Why? Because ending a fight scene in a handful of traded blows is boring to watch and by today's standard, doesn't take advantage of the crazy choreography we have.

I can think of a lot of fights that would end pretty quickly if people took totally realistic damage and reacted to it in a wholly realistic manner. Even "pure human" characters, as touted on Gaia, are usually tough as ******** nails.

As far as guns concerned, they're considered too abusive because of the damage they do. A burn, for example, is usually superficial - painful, yes, and it might even put somebody into shock, but it takes pretty high temperatures or long exposure to do significant bodily injury in terms of crippling somebody.

Whereas with a gun, if you put a .45 through some dude's chest he's ********, you probably just broke a rib, blew out a lung, and put an exit wound the size of a softball in his back. If its a musket, the damage is even worse because the lower velocity actually keeps the wound from being cleanly in and out. Pop a guy in the torso with a musketball and you just shattered ribs, broke a sternum, pulped a lung, etc. Musketball wounds were/are grisly as ********; you're actually better off being hit with a modern day round because it'll go through you. The musketball will just break your s**t to pieces when it hits.

It's a load of damage for.. well, pretty minimal work. So they're generally not allowed.

With the exception of, again, a gun being used as a "channeling" device for magic. That's okay, because usually said magic doesn't have the destructive capacity, nor velocity, of a bullet. You have way more control over balancing it because you can set a standard like "projectiles cannot exceed a speed of 70 mph." Which is so far and away from the velocity of most modern rounds (hypersonic, i.e. well over 500 mph, speed of sound is like 704 or something) that it's not even a comparison.

The thing is, a solid blow from a flanged mace does the same thing, if not worse, just minus the exit wound.

And I can keep swinging the mace... the firearm needs to be reloaded, and has a far higher chance to miss.

A mace can also be blocked or dodged without much of an issue, and doesn't travel particularly fast in comparison to a bullet. There's a lot more interaction to be had with a mace, or a sword. I mean, you can do to somebody with a knife what you can do to them with a bullet, if you want to sit there and carve them up. But there's a lot more interaction going on, a sense of struggle. A sense of being able to do something about the attack.

Good luck dodging a 400+ mph projectile half the size of someone's index finger from 10 ft.

I mean, guns are absolutely not an issue if the character scale is powerful enough to make it feasible for bullets to be regularly blocked, dodged, or taken on the chin. But at the level of the GTB, if you pop a cap in somebody.. they're probably pretty ********. Or they're just going to be all "IT'S A FLESH WOUND."

In a different context, I'd say there's no problem with guns. But in the context of this tournament.. yeah, they present an issue. If we were in a higher powered tournament, I'd be fine with guns. They only present issues in specific settings.

Most of us never experience severe burns and it's normally not an injury you see in movies and stuff. If a characters gets severely burned in a movie they usually die or come back as a super badass like that one guy from Kenshin.

I always just tell people to go light up their stove and hold their hand to it for five seconds and see what happens. That's pretty much the equivalent of Rosalyn's passive. At least I find that when I've explained it like that to judges they'd side with me.

lol no kidding.
I'm glad that I'm not using my main character.
I'd be worried about him getting killed.
Though I do care about Hath as well.

You better win man. lol
No offense King Bug dude.

My next fight if I can beat KB better be with someone who is going to go hand to hand (with powers is fine too)

That way I can start dropping the Omega Driver, Emerald Flash, and Emerald Flowsion on people.
Sounds perfect to me.
Hath arrests and kills meta beings by trade and volition.
And he knows about Tres, from the collective. They have him in their database as I explained earlier.

Much as I'll probably regret it, I'll totally go hand-to-hand with you. I've actually been kind of looking forward to a Tres vs. Njora fight ever since seeing the brackets. They just seem to synergize so well.
