Jackal swayed slightly, struggling to stay on his feet as pins and needles began to spread throughout his body, emanating from the ragged hole in his chest. Steeling himself, he forced a rattling breath of cool night air into his battered lungs and gripped his magnum tightly, thumbing the hammer back and preparing for another hail of bullets to finish him off. The raider closed his eyes, waiting patiently for his end to come, but heard nothing; not the cocking of a sniper rifle, or a murmured order to finish the job. His quickly dimming senses only heard the rumbling of a dozen or so combat boots pounding the desert sand.
Opening his eyes, Jackal found his vision blurred, gritting his teeth, he swallowed at the coppery taste creeping across his tongue and strained his eyes at his surroundings. From what he could make out, he was being surrounded by a small group of well armed men, all with their sights trained on him. "Drop your weapon, scum." Jackal recognized the commanding voice from the loud-speaker. Slowly, he unfurled his fingers from the butt of the gun, and heard a muffled thump as it hit the sand next to his feet. "Good." He heard the monotone voice say, "Now take him." Alarm bells rang in Jackals head, wherever they were going to take him, it couldn't be good. Pulling a shallow breath of air into his lungs, the raider leaped forwards, throwing himself at one of the men, grabbing his gun with one hand, and throwing his fist into the mans face with the other. He felt the soldier stumble backwards, and heard the chattering of his machine-gun as he panicked and pulled the trigger, firing a burst of fully automatic fire into the chest of one of his comrades. Feeling someone grab him from behind, the mercenary threw his head backwards, catching his assailants nose, and flattening it against his skull, simultaneously he flailed his leg, catching one of them between the legs with his steel toe-capped boot. After a few seconds futile struggle, Jackal finally felt the butt of a rifle catch the back of his head, the strength of the blow forcing him to his knees. With one final glance at his captors, a heavy boot sent him into unconsciousness...
The commander straightened his tie upon watching the powerful mercenary finally knocked into unconsciousness, allowing a small smirk to creep across his thin lips. "I want him restrained and ready for transfer, we may not have the girl, but this could prove rather interesting..."

A few hours had passed and Zed had only spent a couple of them actually asleep before the sun, which had only recently set, swept back over the horizon due to the altered angle of the planet.
The pilot left the sleeping quarters and headed back up to the cockpit, checking over the ship's status once again. "I'm a ********' genius" He leant back into his chair with a half-smile and stretched, yawning loudly as the monitor showed that the ship had mostly been repaired.
Zed, after being hit with a huge blast from the ship's core and sent through a rip in the very fabric of space-time, had not gotten away entirely without a scratch. He'd been wounded, fatally if it weren't for the billions of tiny invisible surgeons that floated through the ship's recycled air and coursed through his blood vessels. The ship was full of nanomachines, many of which including those within the pilot himself, were for medical use. They caused accelerated healing, greater resistance to injury, slowing of the ageing process and could release chemicals to improve overall health of the host body.
However, the pilot had re-purposed a couple billion or so of the nanomachines to repair the ship, each of the sub-microscopic units having access via the ship's main computer to a full schematic of the ship as well as taking direction of what to repair from the computer too.
Even so, the nanomachines would take at least 2 weeks to completely repair the ship, but it would be space-worthy within the day.

Koko had no idea how long it had been since she came to, what she did know was that Zed was no longer beside her - probably off trying to fix the ship somewhere. She sighed lightly, lying on her back & looking at the ceiling as she thought about the previous events. She also let her mind drift to what Zed & herself were going to do when they left Earth & whether or not Jackal was dead. The mercenary felt better for some sleep, her body feeling more refreshed than it had done for ages. Her eyes slowly moved from the ceiling to her stomach, which was visible where the sheets had moved to the side, looking at the silvery scarred flesh where she had been shot. She knew she now had other scars elsewhere, but also knew most of them would fade into non-existence after a few years.
Closing her eyes, Koko decided she'd try to get a little more sleep, only to find her mind abruptly bombarded by visions. With a gasp she opened her eyes, but this didn't nothing to stop the things flashing across her eyes, revealing things that were either vivid hallucinations... or memories. Sitting bolt upright the mercenary felt sweat begin to form across her body, fear rising like a poison through her body. She held the hair on her head in desperation, gasping as the strange, disjointed sounds, sights & even smells bombarded her senses. These visions were more intense than any she had experienced before.
It wasn't too long after the visions started that something sped out through the airlock, hitting the ground below the Aiolos with a light 'thump' before speeding off into the distance. The bed where Koko had been... was now empty.
Lance raised an eyebrow at the city below & the mention of others on the planet, puffing his cheeks out a bit before letting the air out with a 'whoosh'. "Jeez... well whadda ya know? I missed a helluva lot while asleep then, aye lad?" The man then looked to Dimitri, running a hand along the stubble on his chin as he pondered their predicament. There could well be a way down further along the ship & it sure looked more promising then going back in that ship with those damn creatures. Still... he had to be cautious. The man began to follow the other two, making sure not to look down as he did so. It was only when about halfway across that he heard it, a strange tapping sound from above them. Slowly he tilted his head up, only to spot a strangely disjointed creature above him. It seemed to be latched on to the side of the ship & it's head didn't appear to have a mouth, only pointed spikes jutting down from it's face. The creatures had wings, so he figured they'd be able to fly. His voice adopted it's commanding tone once again, his slight Texan accent coming through stronger as he did so. "Imma reckonin' we should get movin'! Now!"

Zed watched Koko leave the ship once again on the CCTV monitors and sighed loudly to himself. I wonder where she's off to this time?
He flicked several switches, activating the ship's short range radar and display then watched as the dot that represented Koko disappeared into a huge anomaly in the distance.
"What the hell could that be? Some kind of electromagnetic field?" The pilot looked out of the window in the direction of the anomaly then flicked a few more switches and started the ship's engines, whatever it was, Koko seemed drawn to it, so it was probably rather interesting.
The engines hummed loudly then roared as the ship lifted off once again, slowly following Koko's trail through the long grass into the anomaly, where the ship's remaining navigation systems started to fail.

While she ran, there was no concept of time or space for Koko, for all she knew she could have been running for miles & not realised. As it turned out, she had indeed been sprinting for a couple of miles &, when she came to her senses, she was in the middle of the massive clearing. Slowly, the mercenary slowed herself down to a stop, panting not from her exertion, but from fear & confusion. While her hallucinations seemed to have disappeared for now, she didn't know where the heck she was or why she had run this way in the first place. Not only that, she was dressed only in a large shirt, not exactly the best thing for exploring an unknown environment. It was only when she looked around herself again that Koko noticed something very, very strange. Jutting out of the ground, hilt to the sky as though it had been thrust into the ground with some great force, was a sword.
As though drawn by some strange, unforeseen force the mercenary began to make her way towards the weapon, her previous fear having suddenly dissolved in the presence of this item. The blade was embedded to what Koko thought was about half it's length, with the rest of it rising into the air just like the hilt. The way the blade caught the light, it looked almost golden, with tiny flashes of black contrasting the main colour at various points along the length of the metal, making the whole thing appear slightly darker. The hilt was almost as beautiful, a shining black with a bright colour at the tip that could only be described as akin to amber. As she got closer, Koko's brilliant blue eyes lit up at the sight of the marvelous weapon. Slowly, she reached her hand out to touch it.... "I wouldn't do that if I were you..." Practically leaping out of her skin, Koko spun towards the source of the voice, to find a silver-haired man with a heavily scarred face stood before her. That voice had sounded so familiar.... but, why? At this point the girl figured she was just having another hallucination, so turned back to the sword, reaching out to touch the amber tip of the hilt; there was something about it, she just had to touch it, even if only for a second.
Just as her fingertips touched the shiny golden section she caught sight of something. A dogtag, encased in the substance in such a way that it could still be easily read. The inscribed letters - how old she had no idea - spelled out two things. BEH-685 Koko Next second a wave of intense energy surged through her body, making her convulse away from the sword & slump to the floor. Though unconscious, her mind didn't cease, beginning the first in a long line of forgotten memories.

The ship ran into some turbulence, most likely caused by the electromagnetic interference from the anomaly. Zed wasn't going to risk crashing the Aiolos twice, at least not within 24 hours, so he decided to land the ship at a safe distance and walk to where Koko had gotten to.
"Guess I'll be walking then..." As the ship touched down, the pilot stepped out and onto the long grass once again, before taking a small device from his pocket which showed the direction of the source of the electromagnetic disturbance. He noticed the way that the ground was raised slightly in circles around something, the impact perhaps? It would explain the strange magnetism, but not how the patch of ground that he was standing on hadn't been vaporized.
As he approached, he could make out two figures, Koko and someone who looked bizarrely familiar.

As her eyes began to open, she was greeted by a blurry mass of bubbles passing in front of her face. Her vision was clouded & blurry, but slowly began to clear as she opened her eyes further - though everything was green. Blinking lazily the girl tried to turn her head, only now noticing what looked like a set of wires extending upwards from her face. More, similar wires connected to her arms, legs & stomach, a flat disc-like object at the end where they lay on her flesh. It was strange, whatever the green substance she was suspended in was, it didn't hurt her eyes & she could breathe, though every time she did more bubbles passed in front of her from a set of vents on the side of the object covering the lower half of her face. She knew this due to a reflection of what she assumed to be herself just in front of her. Brown hair floated around her, moving as though in a slow moving liquid, her naked skin glowing slightly as though a strong light was shining upon her.
As though through muted speakers, sounds began to filter towards the girl's ears, getting steadily louder as she became more aware of her surroundings. She thought she heard a word - Koko - was that her? As she turned her head steadily a figure caught her attention; it was male, she knew that though she didn't understand why. He placed a hand on the outside of... something. There seemed to be some kind of barrier between herself & the man, glass perhaps? As she continued to watch him, a warm smile spread across his features before he signaled to some people behind him. Suddenly there was a loud draining sound from all around her & the green substance began to disappear, lowering the girl slowly to the bottom of the container. When her legs touched the bottom, she sat for a moment, her hands reaching out to feel the cold metal around her. She could hear voices, one of them from the man that was still stood just outside her tank. Inquisitive... good. Motor functions look normal, heart rate steady, brain waves look good. We'll need to do some tests before we can fully determine whether she'll be a success. She'll be a success.. I know it. Alek, you have to go. Now. They're coming! The girl began to crawl towards the figure, extending her tiny hand towards him as he turned & walked away....

Thane looked back at Dimitri. "Yes, there is a hospital, don't worry, we'll get you fixed up." He gave the other man a reassuring smile. "But I-" "Imma reckonin' we should get movin'! Now!" Thane looked in confusion towards Lance, and then to where his mentor was looking. "s**t. Jaxxyx." Thane removed his gun from the inside of his jacket pocket, all the while moving along the narrow edge. He was actually wishing he hadn't gone along the bloody path first. "Down there." Thane pointed to one of the maintenance ladders on the side of the ship, which lead down onto a wider platform.

Zed approached the figure who was now stood beside Koko, who had collapsed beside a large sword that was stuck in the floor. He quickened his pace, the hand parts of his metallic hand folding away into his wrist, revealing the open barrel of his cannon wrist which had a small blue flame flickering within it.
"Ah Zed, It has been a while..." The pilot's arm cannon changed back to normal as he slowed back down and allowed himself to catch his breath before speaking to the familiar figure that was stood beside the unconscious Koko.
The heavily scarred man smiled as Zed looked up at him, finally recognising the figure. "Finn? What the hell happened to you?" Aleksander sighed and sat down on the floor beside the sword, gesturing for Zed to do so as well. The ancient man's gaze fell upon Koko again, who lay unconscious on the floor beside them. "She looks as beautiful as I remembered... I trust you've been taking good care of her..." He said quietly, his steely gaze meeting with Zed's, the grey orbs had seen the rise and fall of humanity had faded somewhat since their last meeting, but were still eerily piercing.
Around 200 years ago in two parallel universes, the mercenary turned pilot Finn Angelus and his parallel self, Zed embarked on a voyage from Ares to scout the predicted location of the planet Earth in a prototype ship fitted with un-tested technology used to bend the laws of physics, in theory, allowing the speed of light to be infinitely exceeded.
It was on the return trip that the ship's core failed, lasting several days before the implosion tore through space and time, sending Finn back 67000 years and Zed through from the parallel universe and 90 years forward.
Zed shook his head "So... We can't die?" he inquired. "No, I am most certainly dead..."

Jackal inhaled deeply through his nose as he slowly regained consciousness, swallowing hard against the chemically taste creeping across the back of his tongue. Concentrating, he tried to focus on the area around him, tried remember where he was. He was lying on something long, probably metal, and he could feel the cold surface biting his naked skin. Inhaling through his nose he got a strong smell of sterilizing fluid. In the background he could hear a faint beeping. He could also hear voices, but they were muffled, distant, as if he were hearing them from behind glass. Straining his ears towards the sound, he managed to pick up a few points of the conversation. "Subjects heart rate is stable... Nano-bots readied... awaiting orders to carry out the procedure... bullet removed from his back without a hitch, the damage to his lungs has also been repaired." Jackal felt his adrenaline kick in, his heart near enough skipping a beat. He remembered what had happened to him now, the plan to hand that b*tch Koko over to the military, her escape and his subsequent change in plans, the gunfight; All of it. He could take a pretty good guess as to where he was now... Opening his eyes, he balled his left hand into a fist and made to leap from the operating table, planning on killing anyone stupid enough to come between him and his escape. However, much to his dismay, all he felt was his body tensing against rough leather restraints. Jackal's eyes frantically darted around the room, beside him lay a tray filled with surgical equipment, and next to that what appeared to be a heart monitor. Looking down at his scarred, naked body, he found an array of wires attached to his torso, some to monitor heart-rate, some to monitor blood-pressure, some with absolutely no purpose comprehensible to him whatsoever. Turning his head to the right, he noticed a drip attached to his arm. Looking at the label he attempted, momentarily, to work out the obscure compound of drugs being injected into his bloodstream, but to no avail. As confusion, and a sense of helplessness crept its way into Jackals mind, so did an all too familiar feeling; Rage. Looking into the doorway of the room he was being kept in, Jackal found the source of the voices he'd taken note of whilst still partially conscious, one male doctor, one female. Upon looking at the pair, the man smirked as if laughing at a private joke, and left the room saying only: "I'll fetch the commander." Jackals eyes fell on the young girl as he strained against his bonds. She shifted nervously under his gaze. "What the f**k is going on here?" He growled. The girl cleared her throat and stepped towards the table, her hand reaching towards the tray of surgical tools. "Don't come too close," the raider snarled, "I bite..."

Dimitri started along the narrow ledge, hoping that he didn't slip because with only one hand, his chances of hanging on would be very slim. Nodding to Thane and Lance, he groaned and sped up, every now and then his eyes flicking upwards. The man neared the end, but he left foot skidded and he knocked his stump. With a yell, he just manged to right himself and hurried to the end. "Ugghh...Thane. I gotta get somewhere. I don't...I don't feel so..." and almost right on cue, he leaned over to his right and heaved the little contents of his stomach. His clammy greenish skin was a clear indicator to his condition, a sure sign he was in serious trouble.--------------------------------------------------- A long time had passed since Angie had been let down by her idol. She had wandered off from the fight with the rather violent, heady man, aiming for...well...anywhere. The gutsy young woman had decided to rest, checking her weaponry. The cold was creeping in, and the girl knew that to keep warm, she had to keep moving. But where? Angie had walked in the same direction that she was already going in, and after a few more days had found a small ruined city. It was many years old, and the ground still showed signs of Maw Worm. Angie shrugged it off, seeing that she neither hear nor feel the beast beneath her feet, and began to scout the city for food.
Nothing.
A loud growl was emanating from her stomach now, urging her to find something, anything. Her dizzy head was muzzying her thoughts, so she began to wander aimlessly once again.

There must have been about 50 of them in all. They looked around at each other & the room they were situated in, a low murmur of noise filling the space as the children whispered nervously to each other. Never before had they been called together like this, usually they would just be situated in their own rooms, not coming into contact with anyone but the researchers. Koko had positioned herself off to one side of the group, looking down at her feet nervously. It wasn't long before she heard a peculiar tinny voice over the intercom in the corner & she lifted her gaze instinctively towards the source. Hello everyone, I'm sure you're all dying to know why we brought you all together like this. Well you're in luck, it's a group activity & you're all going to take part! There was an excited babbling from the rest of the children at the prospect of a fun activity they could all be a part of, but Koko was anxious... something didn't feel right about this. Now children, could you please kill each other? As though a switch had been flicked, the entire room became a frantic buzz of activity. Koko seemed to no longer have control of her actions; she knew exactly what she was doing, could still see, hear & feel like normal, but felt compelled to do as she was asked, even though she was mentally screaming at herself not to do it.
The others were fast, but she was always faster, always stronger, more deadly. The others all seemed to be going in slow-motion to her, as though time moved differently for her. The girl's hands would close round their necks & twist, snapping the spine as easily as a twig. Other times her fist would connect with another child's throat, crushing the windpipe & causing suffocation. In a mere 30 seconds almost all of the subjects lay dead or dying, with only four others surrounding the girl. One of them tried to flit towards her, only to fail mid-stride & receive a massive blow to the jaw from her fist, the impact wrenching his jaw out of it's socket. Two of the others had turned on each other, they didn't even notice when she sped up behind them & she didn't hesitate to end their existence. Only one other remained...
Suddenly she couldn't breathe. The girl's hands came up to her throat, desperately clawing at the pressure there, trying to dislodge the child clinging to her neck. Luckily the other subject was tired, she could tell by the way their grip loosened whenever she twisted. With one final tug she spun round, coming face-to-face with her assailant. The other child had a look on his face that would be burned into her memory - a mixture of confusion, terror & despair, along with helplessness, the same helplessness she herself felt as she spun his head to the side, a loud crack resonating in her ears. All around her dead bodies littered the floor, some of them killed by her own hands... having fulfilled the request given to her by the man, Koko sank to her knees, she could feel tears rolling down her cheeks as the voice sounded again. Well done 685! It looks as though you're the best of the group! I'm impressed!
The creatures above them seemed in no hurry to move, they didn't seem particularly bothered by the groups presence, though how long that would last Lance had no idea. The sound of Dimitri vomiting snapped his attention away from the creatures he knew now to be Jaxxyx. "Oh bloody hell!" The researcher knew the lad was in serious trouble with a wound like that & from the looks of it he could fall to his death at any second. Without hesitating the man rushed towards the wounded member of the group & reached an arm round his waist, practically throwing the younger man over his shoulder. "Sorry lad, can't risk ya goin' over the side so yer gunna have to hang on fer a while." Lance hurried after Thane now, as fast as he could without potentially dropping Dimitri or going over the edge himself. They needed to get this guy some medical attention quick or he was going to bleed out.

Thane hurried over to the maintenance ladder. On closer inspection the ladder didn't go down onto a larger platform, instead it went down onto the roof of a building. Thane indicated down the ladder to Lance. "It's the top of a building, sir. There should definitely be a way down from here." He glanced at Dimitri, who was now slung over Lance's shoulder and grimaced. "I just hope we won't be too late." Thane turned back to the ladder and made his way down it. He looked around the top of the building while he waited for Lance.

Aleksander ran his hand through his hair before speaking again, the tone of his voice changing ever so slightly as a small smile crept onto his face. "But there ain't no rest for the wicked as they say... There are times when I am required to return to the world of the living, now is one of those times." He shifted his gaze back to Zed, scanning over the pilot's metallic arm. "Your arm; what happened?"
Zed had almost forgotten the day he lost his arm to the airlock of an alien infested sleeper ship, it was either his arm or Koko. "Airlock... It could of gone one of two ways and I took the 'save the girl' option... Koko built me this new arm though, So we're even." He grinned as he moved the metal fingers of his robotic arm. "You be careful not to lose any more of yourself... Show me that arm." The pilot held out his robotic arm in front of Alek, who held his hand above it.
A second later, the metallic arm broke apart into each of it's component parts, suspended in the air around a strange blue aura and before Zed could react, the arm reformed, the blue glow still faintly visible though the small gaps between the metal parts. "What the hell did you-" Zed gasped. "Made it better." Alek interrupted, pointing out the blue glow. "Is that it?" The pilot asked, turning the arm over to look at the other side. "Yes, I just made it glow... Like it?" Angelus laughed then pointed to it once again. "What I did will become apparent soon enough, until then, it'll be just as it was before, if a little more responsive and a little more powerful." Alek said, turning his attention back to Koko.

She was looking down at her hands, curled on her lap as she sat on the white floor. Her skin was bruised, her knuckles red raw & her joints ached. As she moved her gaze towards her bare arms she could see further bruising & a few cuts, all reminders of the harsh training she'd been put through since... she could see her hands shaking now as she remembered what she'd done that day.
She wasn't sure how long she sat on the floor, since she wasn't allowed clocks in her cell, but after a while she heard the familiar clunk of her door being opened & looked up. Striding towards her - as he did everyday - was the very man who had commanded her to murder all the others; though she hadn't seen him that day, his voice was proof enough. As he got closer she defiantly held his gaze, knowing how much he hated her bright blue eyes, he always said they looked to sweet, not the look of a soldier. The man's head was horribly disfigured, four slash-marks stretching over the top of his head & down his back, the remnants of some previous fight. Since his hair didn't grow where the scarred flesh was the man had a very strange look about him. He'd never explained what had happened to him, but she didn't care to know. As he got to within a few inches of her she still refused to look away & his face darkened. Next minute she felt her head twist to the side, her cheek burning from where he backhanded her. It's disappointing, even when angry your eyes are still too sweet. You should never look at me like that. Despite what he had said, Koko still brought her gaze up to his own yet again, her fingers balling up into fists. She watched as he raised his arm again, bracing herself slightly for the next hit.
Only, it never came. From the direction of her cell door she could hear strange noises, almost as though there was a scuffle outside. The man could obviously hear it too, for he turned to look at the door, which had been left slightly ajar. Next moment a tall, man with greying hair kicked the door open, his eyes obscured by a set of dark shades. Koko thought she recognised him, but she didn't get much chance to look at him before the other man stood in front of her. Alek. I don't think you have any authority here. Now if you don't leave I'll be forced to... The person Koko now knew to be Alek suddenly rushed forwards, his fist smashing into the other man's face, sending him sprawling. With a small shriek the girl scrambled backwards, reaching the other side of the cell in a fraction of a second & cowering there. Alek took a few steps towards the man he'd punched, standing over him & speaking with an icy tone, eerily calm yet with a very dangerous note to it. You've gone too far this time Ian. They were children. Children Ian! You made them murder each other & I will not tolerate that. Koko watched as he turned his attention to her & she curled up tighter, though she didn't look away. As she stared she noticed his face changed, first to a soft look, then to one of undisguised rage. Now she had to look down, once again looking at the various injuries all over her arms & hands. She could still feel the stinging heat on her face from the recent backhanded slap & only now realised it was probably red. Even though she wasn't looking, she could hear how angry Alek was now; his voice had adopted a very low, quiet tone & he practically hissed the words out. You.. hit.. her. The other man, Ian, didn't respond other than to try & sweep-kick Alek's legs. The taller man simply jumped over the attack though, bringing his foot down on Ian's face. There was a crunching sound, indicating his nose had broken under the force of the impact.
The girl felt herself flinch at the sound & wrapped her arms more tightly round herself, staring down at her bare feet, which were covered in blood & dirt. She could hear footsteps getting closer to her & began to shake, half-expecting to get kicked. From where she was looking down she could now see a shadow &, ever so slowly, lifted her head to look up at the person standing over her. Alek had removed his shades now, revealing oddly colourless eyes. He had a small, gentle smile on his face & knelt down beside her. It's okay Koko, you're safe now, we're going to take you away from here. You'll be alright, I won't let them hurt you anymore. For a few moments the girl looked into the faded eyes of the man before her, unsure whether to trust him or not. There was the sound of more footsteps & she looked to the side of him at the door again, spotting more people in the doorway. All of them wore black full body armoured suits, nothing like anything any of the researchers or guards she had seen.
Before she could turn her attention back to Alek she felt a light, warm touch against her injured cheek & immediately recoiled, noticing the man's outstretched hand & saddened expression. I won't let them hurt you again. After a few moments of pressing herself up against the wall, Koko reached out a small, bruised hand, her fingertips brushing against the man's hand. She felt a tiny smile spread onto her features &, though it hurt, she kept it on her face. She watched as Alek smiled back at her & made no effort to resist him as he gathered her up in his arms. She pressed her face into his chest, the warmth & darkness calming her. She felt him turn towards the other people & when he spoke she could feel the vibrations in his chest as well as hear his voice. We're leaving.
