Gathering chakra in a fixed quantity won't work, thought mitsuko as she tried it for the eighth time. Most likely a constant stream of chakra was needed, to keep the water flowing, of course. Mitsuko took a deep breath and sealed her gills, those things were becoming very annoying. Then she kept breathing out water until she ran out of breath. Then she realized why gills were needed. to keep the water flowing and to keep breathing at the same time.
but she didn't really know how to use her gills to their full extent, and this attack was actually proving to be troublesome.

"well, it's quite simple actually," said Kisame as Mitsuko as him how to breathe atternately. "but it just happens naturally for me, so I wouldn't actually know..."
Great, thought mitsuko as she kicked a can. the shark guy's beed breathing his whole life through his gills, and he doesn't know how it works. mitsuko has gills and lungs, and she guessed that kisame has it too, but gills can't breathe in air, only filter oxugen out of the water. mitsuko wished that she actually took shinobi biology as a course in the academy.

Well, gills breathe in water, and using the water breathing skill, you breathe out water, so perhaps oxygen can be extracted by reverse osmosis? Mitsuko thought of this possibility, just one of many stupid ideas she thought up of. this one was particularly stupid...
Mitsuko concentrated then brought up some water through her gills. Then she started to choke. the more she thinks about it the harder it is to do. And it's supposed to happen automatically according to Kisame. And then she started to breathe, it first started to hurt, but then it just lessened to a dull ache. the water kept coming out but she could still breathe.

"Umm, it appears that mitsuko finally learned how to breathe," said Kisame to himself. Of course he himself knew how to do it, but some things you just have to have the student figure out...especially the concepts that will be important later on.
Kisame heard a familiar voice and saw Itachi standing beside him, and knew that it was time for an akatsuki meeting again. the red clouds organization has probably found another victim. Kisame smiled and followed itachi, bearing his set of fearsome-looking teeth.
Mitsuko watched Kisame go, but didn't follow him, there was no point...

Mitsuko stepped back into her homeland...there wasn't much difference. The mist was thick as usual, the silence still as unbearable as ever. Mitsuko sighed and went to look for someone she actually knows. If she becomes Mizukage, the village would remain oblivious of it. How painful it all is...
Haku was by the water side as usual, this time she was feeding birds. Mitsuko instantly felt a bit jealous of haku's good looks, but then crushed the feeling, she was here to learn. Haku smiled in greeting and asked mitsuko to sit down. The birds were not alarmed by mitsuko's prescence and did not fly away.

"You are growing strong, Mitsuko...perhaps stronger than zabuza or myself..."said Haku, making mitsuko blush. Was it possible? thought mitsuko as the birds pecked at the seeds. She had come a long way from the shinobi academy, but was her experience that great?
"Your training paid off, of course...but what makes you strong is a pure heart and determination. Yet, you do not know of your strength..." said haku, with deep thought. Mitsuko wondered how haku can understand people so well...She always knew what you were thinking and never failed to give you an answer. Such an intelligent and powerful ninja is very precious in the world of shinobi...

"i'm here to learn a technique from you, haku-san..." said Mitsuko going to the point finally. Haku nodded, as if expecting this all along. she got up and dusted off the grass on her kimono. mitsuko got up too and the birds flew away. Haku gazed at the mist thoughtfully for a few seconds and then did a few handseals with her left hand. and then haku disappeared...
Mitsuko sensed the prescence of chakra behind her, but did not see anything. And then the mist behind her materialized into haku. "this is called mist instantaneous body...a trademark technique of hidden mist."said haku as mitsuko shook off her surprise.

"By adjusting the current of chakra through your body, you can change it's density and water level to that of mist. Of course, this technique is best used when there is already mist present. while in this state, one cannot attack, but you can change in and out of this state in about one second." Mitsuko nodded and understood.
For reconaissance and other espionage activities, this technique should be very efficient. mitsuko made the handseals with one hand...and thne remembered that she did not have haku's special kekkai genkai. Mitsuko matched the movements with both hands and changed her chakra flow.

Mitsuko was getting the hang of it when a gruff voice called out:" Haku, we have some work to do!" Mitsuko saw a hulking figure coming through the mist and felt a bit tense. Zabuza stepped out and haku went over to hm. Zabuza then noticed Mitsuko and asked who she was.
"this is mitsuko-san..our future mizukage..." said haku, her expression serious. Zabuza laughed and stared at mitsuko with unblinking eyes. mitsuko remained tense and waited for a possible attack. zabuza's gaze fell onto mitsuko's neck and he looked amused. a human, with hoshigaki's gills...this should be interesting.
And then haku and zabuza left together.

Mitsuko later found out that the guy was zabuza...eventhough he didn't have his zanbatou with him, he was still quite intimidating. mitsuko didn't feel intimidated though, she had quite a lot of experience with fighting intimidating people. In fact, mitsuko viewed this as a great oppurtunity to learn perhaps a high-level technique.
Zabuza noticed that Mitsuko was tailing him and Haku and asked her what she wanted. Mitsuko couldn't see his expression, though by his eyes he looked kinda pissed. "I would like to learn a technique from you, please?" asked mitsuko in her polite but undaunted voice.

Zabuza stared at the young girl and took a kunai, throwing it at mitsuko. Mitsuko didn't even flinch and caught it just a fraction of a second before it hit her in the eye. "I take that as a yes?" said mitsuko, holding the sharp object and combing her hair with it.
"One of these days..."murmered zabuza under his breath. Mitsuko could see that his expression was sour but he had a half-smile. Zabuza shrugged and thought about it. Could the leader of the bloodiest hidden village be the future for this young girl...her expression was naive, yet the way she caught the kunai...

"Do you know why hidden mist is one of the most successful hidden villages?" asked zabuza as he stood facing mitsuko. Mitsuko knew the answer, because it was drilled into her head by countless paper tests. "Because we are a group of silent killers without emotion and with no regard for human life. we have no friends...only mild enemies."
Zabuza nodded and seemed satisfied. He raised his left hand over his head and heavy mist covered the arena. Mitsuko did not flinch, sort of expecting this. She knew this technique, which is almost always used in assassination.

Are you afraid...? called out zabuza's voice in a weird echo. His voice seemed to come from all directions at once. Mitsuko was not amused, simply due to the fact that this technique was the oldest trick in the book. Mitsuko raised her hands and did a few handseals, transforming her body into mist.
zabuza looked around and could not find mitsuko anymore, and suddenly there was a voice behind him...Zabuza spun around and then there was nobody. haku must have taught her THAT technique, thought zabuza as he cancelled the mist.

"That was very clever of you, though of course I was tryng to teach you that particular technique." said zabuza with gritted teeth. Mitsuko nodded and asked zabuza to explain. "Well, you see that i only made one handseal...there are actually quite a few seals, though this technique is almost second nature to me."
Mitsuko watched Zabuza do the handseals and tried them herself. Instantly a mist began to settle and it became heavier as she put in more concentration.

but a mist will be useless if you yourself is trapped by it...thought Mitsuko. she can hardly see through it, and that's not good because your opponent will be able to take advantage of that. Her other senses are sharp enough, but if her opponent has sharper senses still, she was simply trapping herself.
Mitsuko didn't tell this to zabuza, but she had a feeling that he knew what to do. "Did you notice the way my voice echoed in the mist?" said zabuza. It is this special property of mist that we swordsmen use. this way, no one can pin point our exact location."
