Yea...In Asian cultures, rooting from Chinese, I believe, Si4 means four, but at the same time si2 (I believe) means death and because the pronunciation is similar, four was coined as unlucky and it sort of migrated to most of the other oriental cultures.
I'm Korean by the way, not Chinese...^^
Let's go to 5th Year together! That would be so awesome!

That's awesome that you're korean! I have to confess that I don't know many asians in real life. The whole 4 thing is confusing but I guess I sorta understand it! I know that yon is 4 in japanese since I took it last semester. I'm mexican by the way...and since my town where I grew up in didn't have a lot of asians and blacks, that is why I only know mexicans and white people.. Yes! Let's be 5th years!

Oh, we have a couple Mexicans at our school, but many of them tend to be really...how to put it, mean [?]. There's a couple that are really nice and I'm friends with them but for the most part, they only hang out with each other and slander other people and ethnic groups...But then again, I'm sure that I do it subconsciously as well as does practically everyone else...
*HIGH-FIVE* We gonna be 5th Year Buddies! *poke*

*pokes back* yay for 5th years! Only a couple?? That's crazy...in my old high school more than half of the population was mexican..but then I live in California..so what do you expect. I know what you mean about the whole slander thing...its normal with mexicans..if you were white and walked under the bridge and said anything..then watch out! It's a defensive thing..so theres no offence to it at al. I was known as a white-washed traitor in high school because I didn't hang out with them and because I went to a private school before. Everyone does in subcounsciously like..my whole family calls white people "americans" I say it to actually. sweatdrop that's stupid though, since I am considered american.

Oh my gosh! Me, too. I was in a debate class and in an informal debate, I commented that Americans "were too stupid." But I'm an American citizen...and as my parents call it, I'm "American-ized." Curious though, aren't there a lot of Asians near San Diego?

Haha..you said that! That would be funny to see. My cousins once commented saying "what to white people eat anyway?" I thought that was funny. Well my town is known for its agricultural roots..so we have alot of mexicans and illegals in town because of that. Its also known to be for rich white people and rich retired people..so there's always a clash. It is a small town only about 6 k live in it but its spread out because theres tons of hills and rural areas. Well I don't know why there's no asians living in my town..I think because the area never really specialized in asian stuff? Its also racist so I really don't know why.

Oh, I grew up in a rich suburban area so I never really experienced an overwhelming amount of racial problems and conflicts, but I do live in a neighborhood of retired grandmas and such who happened to have like a fortune saved up or something. So, it gets a bit lonely at times, but my neighborhood is probably the one to get the first snow in the city.
Oh by the way, Americans eat hamburgers. Oh my gosh, that reminded me of Pink Panther, the movie, which wasn't too good. But the HAMBURGER part! Hambooggwah!

I love that part! That was about the only part I liked in the movie...I like the older version better. I thankfully know what americans eat since my best friend is an american..so whenever I go to her house I eat mostly southern style...What other books do you like to read?

I'm a modern classic kind of person.
"The Alchemist" "Flowers for Algernon" *** Made me more aware of intelligence vs. emotion, etc. "Atonement" "Only Revolution" "The Things They Carried" "Catcher in the Rye" *** Gave me a new perspective on life... "Death Be Not Proud" *** THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL and a bit sad story
I love southern food. Do you mean like fried chicken, jambaliya, and stuff like that? I want to try Cali food. As far as I know, California has its own distinct style of foods like an infusion between Mexican and southern food.
Generally, I like books that are simply written but have a lot of insight and is well written.
This should be my 300th post... biggrin

California has its own style? I really haven't noticed..maybe if I lived in a city I would notice. Lucky! I don't know what post I'm on. I've never read those books before. I usually read the macabre and dark...and fantasy and si-fi alot of manga too! I should read those books. Is atonement like the movie? I especially love vampire books.

I want to see the movie. Oh, I like dark, depressing, and macabre anime, though.
1) Wolf's Rain 2) Trinity Blood 3) Full Metal Alchemist 4) Elfen Lied 5) Black Blood Brothers
>.< Yes, I know, I have a weird style, so deal with it! They should try to make an anime Harry Potter. I would want to see how that would work out.

YES! 3 more posts! You can do it! I'm going to watch and then go to sleep! sweatdrop It's like 12:40 and I'm supposed to be done with my application essays, but I finished the first couple...I've seen Blood+. I just didn't think it was in my top 5. That's the one with Saya, Diva, Solomon (who has the most sad death), and HAJI! Haji's cool, but that's partly because he plays the cello as do I...

I feel as though we're counting down to the New Year or something. I've heard a lot about Vampire Knight, but haven't really gotten too deeply into it. Gundam was pretty good, especially Seed in my opinion, but then it got too angst and emo and *sob sob* all the time. I still watch it though...By the way, I think Yaoii is pretty interesting when it's used correctly ONLY for anime characters in my opinion. Y'know, the infamous Sasukashi and so on...=3
