I think the ship has several brooms, and the one Kayako's replacing is the one closest to her room. She probably broke it chasing someone to trying to squish a spider.

@DS I took a coruse that was similar to what you are studying last quater, and I actually found it quite interesting. I was going to take the other course this time around but took human sexuality instead.
