I am dealing with the commission from hell. And I do not know how to get out of it. I really need the money, but my integrity and patience can only go so far – plus, I do not want to be made a further pariah by refusing a commission, as I know will happen.
crying whats the problem? they didn't like what you did... or are they taking advantage of yourpricing and asking for more than what it is worth?
He wants a complex map with all sorts of things I am not comfortable drawing. Plus, he is slow to answer questions and wants more than what he is willing to pay for. He wants a map that would take up at least 36x48 inches crammed onto an A4! Then he keeps changing things, "I want this a hedge," or "I want all these buildings like this," after he told me he wants it another way.
I don't have many qualms as long as someone gives me flexibility. But this project is grating against four of my qualms on top of being inflexible.
1) If you are going to commission something, be quick to respond to questions and do not blame me for being slow because I am waiting for your responses.
2) I am against organized religion and do not want to portray them or their iconography as that feels like outright bowing to oppressors.
3) No shrubberies or hedges. I can't and won't draw them for myself, or even my friends, why should I have to draw them for someone else?
4) Expect realistic results. If you want an A4 sized map, it is either not going to have the detail with a lot of buildings or will have the detail with few buildings.
