Michael nodded. "I will, and of course we can. In the first day or two I think we should get you acquainted with Headquarters, though. It can be complex to navigate, and you did say that you wanted to play video games with Kevin."

He shrugged then and smiled to Lissie. "They're on their way back up, if you would like to meet them. Can you not feel it too?" Maybe whitelighted ghosts' powers were still different between them? There weren't nearly enough around to tell.

"I do," Lissie agreed. "I'll have to learn how to do that," she added, studying Michael for a moment and smiling. "You should introduce me," she prompted.

"They are?" She paused and slipped off the bed, heading towards the door. She opened it. "How can you tell?" she asked. "Ghost-magic?"

"I couldn't say for sure. I know things I shouldn't know, and I always have. I wonder if you could learn?" How strange. Lori would definitely be interested.

Reluctantly, Michael rolled out of bed and dressed in modern clothes. He gestured down the hall where Toby and Dari would be arriving and started that way. "Perhaps it has something to do with our lives? I haven't the faintest idea."

"I wonder. Do you think it's something you learned, or something you've always been able to do?" She conjured something casual, and wrapped a conjured cardigan around her shoulders. She tsked. So much skin.

"Maybe. I used a lot of energy pretending I was still--" alive. "It only made me sad, most of the time." She followed him down the hall.

Ah, well that was a good question. Michael tried to remember back to the days shortly after his death, to the years that followed, but all he found were random blips of image and sound for quite some time. By the point he could remember completely, he was privy to people's unseen locations and even more random information than he had ever had before.

"I don't suppose I can answer that correctly either. Perhaps Research will want to do an energy read, if you're willing." He went to the top of the stairwell and shouted down: "Hello!"

Dari's voice sounded back: "Hello! We're just getting ready to leave, are you ready?"

Two blonde heads appeared around the bend. Toby was smiling, but only seemed partially awake.

"Do you need help with anything?" Michael asked.

Dari shook his head. "I've got everything ready. Do you want to call for our ride?"

Michael nodded. "I can do that."

An energy read? Well, why not? She followed Michael to the stairwell. How did he know all those things? Did they really just come to him? She conjured a mug of coffee and offered it to Toby. "Here," she said. She wasn't sure if it would have the same effects as the real thing, but... Maybe it was worth a try?

"Are you two looking forward to getting home?" she asked.

Toby took Lissie's conjured mug, and then looked between it and the paper cup already in his hand. He wasn't sure what conjured joe would do to him, but he didn't want to refuse her gift either. "Thanks," he said, and then to her question- "I am. I miss my wife and son."

The flight home was fairly uneventful, save the little triumph in filling out Lissie's intake forms. She had a room made up for her at HQ, though it was not expertly matched for what they had had in storage, but she was welcome to fill it as she liked with purchased or conjured goods and set up with a allowance. Her room was across the room, down a short hallway, and around a corner from Michael's; a good distance for privacy, but near enough that they could spend time together. Michael figured he would let her have a couple of days before he brought her anywhere, considering the influx of new things, though he did show her around. A lack of need to sleep might be useful.

Thus, on the second full day in the afternoon, Michael went to Kevin's apartment and stood a few moment, invisible, looking for a fun way to alert to his presence without abjectly terrifying the boy.

Kevin was oblivious to his favorite ghost's presence, and for once, wasn't in front of the tv. His xbox controller was next to him, and every few words he wrote, he'd pick it up and move the joystick, looking towards the screen.

Stupid paper. Why'd he have to write about himself, anyway? He wasn't interesting. Not nearly as interesting as Toby! Why couldn't he write about him? Secret agent with a secret, awesome job. That was a much better paper than his omitted of everything interesting "I'm-an average teenager I swear!" essay thing.

Maybe he wouldn't finish it.

Michael chose to roll Kevin's pencil off of his table as a distraction while the boy was looking away. Should Michael succeed, the kelpie would return to his paper with "Hello Kevin" written around every border and in the top margin as far as it would fill in swooping, delicate cursive as neat as a pencil could make. It was also grammatically incorrect, to be certain, but "Hello, Kevin Hello, Kevin" looked even worse.

What? Kevin bent down to get his pencil, and looked back to his paper to continue writing. He paused. “Hi, Michael,” he said, grinning. “How are you?” He hadn’t seen much of the ghost since he’d left on that mission.

Maybe the ghost wanted to play? Anything was better than homework. He pushed his paper aside. “Want to play a game?”

Michael appeared in the nearest chair at the same table, smiling.

"I'm well, thank you. A break after a mission is always welcome." He gave Kevin a look then, arching his brow. "Are you not doing homework?"
PostPosted: Mon Apr 16, 2018 6:10 pm

“I was doing homework,” Kevin decided on a partial truth; it was better than outright lying. “But I’m done now, see?” He offered the ghost his paper. “Your handwriting is much nicer than mine.” He pushed the controller towards Michael.

“Did you fight an evil witch on your mission? I heard someone say it was a girl.”

"Kevin, that is a sentence fragment... and me," Michael said, eying Kevin's paper. Nevertheless, he chuckled. "Your studies are very important. I was an intellectual in my time. Of course, we didn't have video games." Plus the focus was on more than just grades. Michael stood and started toward the television.

"Well, that depends on your definition of a witch. That's not really a species. As a matter of fact, there's a new ghost at HQ."
PostPosted: Mon Apr 16, 2018 6:20 pm

“It’s boring, Michael,” Kevin immediately protested. “I can’t talk about you or Dad or anything out of the ordinary.” It didn’t seem like Michael was going to press the issue, though. He followed Michael towards the television.

“Is the ghost a ghost-witch?” The kelpie persisted. He sat on the couch and looked to Michael. “What’s the ghost like?”

"Sure you can. It's the magic you can't mention. You can talk about your adoptive father, who works for the government. You can talk about your friend Michael, who's a bit of an effeminate swine." He was teasing, smirking, but he came to the couch anyway.

"Well, I suppose anyone who uses magic can be a witch, but I'm not sure if ghosts use magic, exactly? No matter. They actually would like to meet you and play games, but I wanted to ask you first." He was careful with avoiding the female pronouns.
