“It feels like I’ve been asleep all this time,” Lissie gave a soft shake of her head. She’d been alone so long, it was nice to feel awake, to feel alive again. “Are you tired, Michael? You could join me.”

There was only the one bed. And they’d started off this relationship scandalously...

Michael didn't feel tired. He wasn't sure that was a thing that could come naturally to him any more. He didn't share that with Lissie either. Perhaps every post-whitelighting experience was different. It would be interesting to learn.

"I could join you, if you'd like." He slid gracefully off of the bed and stood, offering his hand to Lissie so they could pull the blankets back.

Lissie took his hand and slid off the bed. She studied him for a moment. How could anyone be so perfect? He was so kind and so beautiful. She pulled the covers back and gestured for him to enter them first.

Michael wordlessly refused, instead gesturing for Lissie to go first with his free hand, and gently guiding her with the other like a ballroom dance. Ladies first, and always. Even if the idea was a bit archaic, it was one that Michael knew Lissie had grown up with. A Victorian lady was bound to like a gentleman on occasion, even one so bright as Lissie.

Oh? Lissie turned to kiss Michael’s cheek before releasing his hand and slipping under the covers. She turned to face him. “I’m glad I get to come with you,” she said.

Michael smiled, and it wasn't the mischevious half-grin he most often sported. He wasn't sure how to relate what he felt, so he remained silent for a time as he came around the bed to the other side.

"I'd never imagined that I would find love after death, nor that I would ever be the reason for someone's white light."

Now, how was he supposed to dress when sharing the bed with a new girlfriend? It was unheard-of, absolutely, in polite society. The lovers he had slept beside previously had already been privy to much of his body before curling up together, so his state of dress hadn't been an issue. Shoes, though, weren't for the bed, so he conjured them away. He settled on a loose nightshirt and a pair of soft pants which seamlessly appeared before he crawled under the covers. It was Victorian enough to not be off-putting for Lissie, but with the added modesty of some modern pants. After all, what if their legs touched? He wasn't used to this sort of middle-ground between intimacy and formality. It simply wasn't something that had existed in his life.

“So we’re both lucky,” she smiled at him. She couldn’t believe how lucky. He was so special. She watched as he crawled under the covers and moved closer to him. She put a hand to his cheek and smiled. “I never imagined I’d meet anyone like you,” she said.

The urge to kiss Lissie was strong, but was it inappropriate in a bed like this? Michael leaned into her hand and smiled back, then decided it was all well enough and leaned forward to capture a gentle kiss. He did not linger, merely pulling back to admire her and stroke her cheek with his thumb.

"I'm nothing special." It was funny, how they only way they'd had to meet each other was in death, and that they would have had to wait more than a century and a half. If anything was meant to happen, certainly this had been one of them. Nobody could explain what came beyond the white light, but perhaps there was some force whom had brought them together.

Lissie smiled at the kiss and returned it. Nothing special? She studied him for a moment. “You are,” she insisted. Couldn’t he see it? “You brought my garden back to life after it’d been dead so long. And you’ve taught me so much in the last few hours.” She stroked his curly hair.

“I think you’re special.”

The garden was still dead, he thought. They were still dead. All he was was a dead man, and men were always imperfect. The information he offered hadn't come from him, either. He was no revolutionary, simply a messenger. He knew how it felt, though, to see everything in one person, to see something wonderful in them that they couldn't see. He understood that, and so he smiled, and as she played with his hair it became a grin. He reached up and tugged one of the curls at his hairline and let it bounce back, closing one eye as he did.

Lissie smiled at him, shifting to play with his curls as demonstrated. How did she put things into words? She’d been taught to be eloquent, but she seemed at a loss. She’d been lost for so long. “I love you, Michael,” she said, and traced one of his curls with a finger.

Michael looked up at the curls Lissie bounced and smiled.

"I love you too," he said, and then shifted his weight to be more comfortable beside her. "Would you..." hm. "Like me to hold you?"

Hold her? Well... why not? Lissie paused in thought before she gave him a nod. “Alright,” she agreed, and paused in playing with his hair. “Is it modern, for courting to go so quickly?” She asked. She wasn’t judging, there was curiousity in her voice.

There was some portion of Michael that saw this as a victory. Physical affection wasn't all that odd for private affairs, even if the public pretended that they were. It didn't seem as if Lissie would believe that, however. Their rooms were going to be separate, so now might be the only time they had to consider sharing a bed before (if ever) they moved in together.

"No, I don't think so," he said with a little chuckle. He had not yet made a move to hold her. "We defy the expectations of the masses! We're dead, after all, and from two entirely different periods of history."

“Being dead does put things into perspective,” Lissie mused, and smiled at him. “There’s so much to make up for, and so much to do.” And she got to spend it with Michael. “It’s so strange to see how time works,” she said. “It doesn’t seem that long ago, and all these things happened.” Death was like that, maybe.

“What do you look forward to most?”
