PaulTheWolf5575 It makes little sense...I mean Master Zao had a Lightsaber that doubled as a walking stick, but that's about it. Besides, why have that when you can have a SaberStaff or an Electrostaff... Because its cool. stare And you can block blaster bolts, you just have to be good with the weapon.

Consider the length of your pole for starters. Its six feet long. Add another two for the blade. Already you have something larger than a man. Now, take in consideration that you must move the blade to block a blasterbolt, and the quickest way is to spin it, which means that your top of your head and feet are protected teh best. Now consider where people shoot a blasterbolt. At the mass of your body. You'd have to try and use it somewhat like a sword to block any bolts coming towards the body, which means you must etch up on the pole, which also means you got another three, four feet of useless pole banging on the ground behind you, hindering your block. Stick with the electrostaff and just dodge blasterbolts like that togruta chick. If you want blasterbolt protection, get a light shield.

Polearms are neat, but none of them were ever designed for blocking. They're designed for long reach against opponents.

You must think of how the chinese use it, a pole-arm is much more than a long stick with a knife to stab things with. See, the thing is, the way the Chinese Infantry Spear, and Glaive were used is not how they were used in DW4. They were used to counteract Heavily Armored Cavalry that were commonly on the Battlefield in ancient China, using the heavy blade and setting against a Cavalry charge. In Man to Man they would dump it in favor of a Short Sword or a Tai Chi Broadsword. The Shaolin Monks use them differently, but even they would eschew for a Dao or a Tai Chi Broadsword in close combat if they had the choice...

Well, I have a Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do, but I take a lot of time to research stuff like this for stories I write, and I just have a general interest in Warfare adn Martial Arts...

Don't be too proud of your belt and Tae Kwon Do.... I've beaten so many black-belt arrogant pissants of that style it isn't even funny.
No offense to the style or you personally, but when the style favors kicks and people think that a belt represents skill rather than simply being a colored piece of cloth that holds up your pants, they tend to find themselves on their back.
I study (more like studied, I'm probably a bit rusty by now) A mix of Jeet Kun Do, Muay Tai, and Ra Ser Ryu. It seemed to get me by in the competitions...

I mean, everywhere I go, there's some black belt from TKD....
I remember one day, we had a new kid moved in. Decided to join our dojo, since it was the closest one to his house. (laziness prevails)
Anyways, he went on about how he had earned his black belt. He was about 16 or so.... I remember I was but a shy 10 or 11 years of age, definate gap.
Anyways, Sensai finally gave in to his whining. The kid wanted to be tested as a black belt, so he gave him the challenge that if he could beat any of his students in a spar, he'd promote him halfway there on the spot.
Anyways, I being still a runt and only a white belt (I told him to keep any belts he wanted to give me. I didn't see it as anything but an extra expense on him. If I wanted to wear a different color of belt, I would ask him for one.) was picked as his opponent.
I can say, the first kick connected quite well. I wasn't prepared, and I was still so innocent that I asked him if he was ready, so he rudely said no, which made me drop my guard to bow to him in courtesy. However, the second kick was blocked, and the third kick, a backwards roundhouse, found itself caught, reversed, and him on his stomach.
The fight was over after that. I could have sworn he wanted to kill me the next three attacks, but he was unfocused and found himself with a fist in his stomach, and his knee hurt for the next two days.
sigh.... These are the kinds of people which I don't like. And many people in TKD I meet act the same way...
