Her eyes travelled upward to the heavens. "I never did get the chance to meet him. I was around though, throwing ideas at Brunelleschi while they were building the Basilica di Santa Maria del Fiore...those were the times when I believed there was hope for the human race."

She took a drag on her cigarette and returned her gaze to him.
"Was Da Vinci good company?"

"He was very inquisitive...a very open man. I begged him to let me turn him..."

Such brilliant minds have come out of time and each one was to great a loss to let go to death. Brilliance that had wrought great marvels and great disaster to the world, with such genius comes demons. You are brought to a level of existing that normal men and women cannot fathom. You see the world totally different than everyone else. Gabriel wanted to show them a world hidden where they could have a chance to fit in. Where Einstein could converse with Pythagoras so to speak. This made a mischevious crooked grin creep its way onto his face.

"How have things been here?"

Lance tumbled over the graveyard's walls, clutching his cold, and stolen sandwich, to his ribs, under his jacket. The pup's ears pricked, eyes, hearing beating a touch quickly, as he listened for the sounds of his pursuer, an irate shopkeeper. After a few minutes he slumped against the wall, trying to find a shadowy corner, and tucked into his loot, hunger rendering him unaware of anything.

"Things are..." She took a drag on her cigarette and looked to the ground. She had left New York for some time to try and gain some control over the void, and over the psychic remenents that Alexz had gifted her with.

"Honestly, I had to visit my sister. She's been causing a bit of a...scene in Eastern Europe the past few months. So, needless to say, I think things have been somewhat quiet around here."

She shifted in her position.
"And how have things been with the great Gabriel?"

"You give me to much credit, I am but the ever faithful errand boy."

In the short amount of time he had been gone New York was ever on his mind. This place was becoming just as captivating to him, more so for the people in it. They were interesting, there had to be something special here to make Him see light in consuming darkness.

"I just got back from China."

Setting up he reached out across the world to a deep wet church buried in the middle east. Somewhere in the darkness two ruby lights appeared and squinted at his presence. Gabriel relayed what he was seeing to Father. An unfortunate side effect was the confusing mix of emotions that showed on his face, Fathers affection and awe appeared on his face as he seemingly stared with his mouth slightly open. Realizing this he cleared his throat and closed his mouth and adverted his eyes. The connection stayed though, this was good for Him.

"I talked with some Kindred there for a while. Visited you could say."

Rogue continued her gaze, her emerald eyes flickering and glowing in the night...she felt more predator than anything and looked the part as she was still underfed from not feeding for so long while searching for her sister in Slovenia.

She was not quite looking for prey...she just slouched in a way not as much elder as it was Sanguinarian.

She saw features change on his face for a mere moment.

"Kindred in China. How are the vampire hordes there doing? They never took a liking to my small bloodbath in the 1800s."

"They are waking up."

Deep in their mountains he had sought and found one older than him that Father suspected of still living just asleep. He was well protected and if any other vampire had stumbled on them they would have been killed. Gabriel had an edge, an ace up his sleeve so to speak the name Yama Raja. It was what Father was known as to these people. A drop of his blood was tested and he was taken deep into the mountain temple. The ancient vampire had awakened weeks before apparently and recieved Gabriel as well as could be expected, just as swiftly Gabriel was sent away with a scroll.

"Rogue...what is time to vampires? Things were not always as they are now, we both know that. Things go in cycles. Where would you stand if things cycled back to where the powerful hold dominion over the entire population of kindred?"

Father still watched and seemingly did not care about what they were talking about. Gabriel looked around the cemetary, an old place by human standards. If he guessed right this place had been where Da was sent to Hell, beheaded by a slayer and what set him down the new road.

"Given the choice, faced against unimaginable elders...would you stand with Rikku in the face of utter annihaltion? What would you do if Rikku submitted to authority...would you try and motivate her to stand against them?"

He walked forward place a hand on the rough weathered cross of a tomb feeling the cold ridges. These were questions he had asked himself before asking her, before even meeting her. In ancient Greece vampires ruled their own lands, with the vampires living in them if allowed being subject to their might. During that time period the worlds strigoi population lived like this with vampires in remote locations being worshipped as deities. Then Rome came and a council like New York held sway and then it too was sacked motivated by vampires that wanted to rule on their own again. The only difference was that during all these times vampires were relatively young, the Old Ones slept. Now they were waking up, how would the world react.

In superstitious places like Haiti he had witnessed first hand when Father awoke. Father himself had immediately contacted him when the ancient chinese one awoke. It had sent ripples across the globe, like an alarm clock to anyone sensitive enough to hear it saying Wake up, you've over slept.

"Young wine is not more valuable than old wine, and so, time is a normal deciding factor of power. My maker was an old one, but was soon killed after I was made, and I was left without explanation. He made my twin siblings without my knowledge and for a larger portion of my vampire life, I did not know they still existed."

She leapt atop another gravestone after flicking her old cigarette and lit a new one and took a long drag.

"I have drank of old ones, Gabriel, and my strength and power does not match my age like it should because I have broken law...or...laws were broken for me. Ancients are drawn to me and for the longest time, I could never know why."

She never really spoke much of such things. The past was the past, and in New York, the elders normally kept it that way. Knowledge was also power in such times.

"I was chosen to be an elder in New York for the reasons of my blood which I myself did not understand. I was loyal to the European houses in my youth, and served as a Deathdealer with proper training, but I was a Sanguinarian by blood, with other gifts that allowed me greater control.

All this to say, in recent times, Ancients have found me, such as Cady Ap-Morthwyl, and his blood is now my blood. And Alasdair." She paused for a moment, her eyes searching Gabriel, the emerald fire flickering as she reached out in a psychic way.
"And your precious Revan...whose blood I do not possess, yet will not give me peace."

She took a long drag on her cigarette.

"I will stand with Rikku whatever her choices. She is the leader, and if she were to submit, my only obligation would be as she would wish...I would not know myself without her. But I also trust her because she is no fool."

"If the ancients were to wake in the same era, I would want to be with my allies...but is the threat so great when they themselves are not united?"

"He said you would say as much."

Revan cracked a smile and chuckled lowly but it echoed yet throughout the room. In his hand was the unrolled scroll from China written in characters with a blood ink concocted millenia ago. Some correspondence with old kindred, He had yet to decide where He would stand in all of this.

"I'm not sure that I view it as a threat. Look at it from their perspective, you leave your home to your children while you are away and then come back and someone else claims it is theirs."

Gabriel was between a rock and a hard place. None of these people were bad per say yet he knew the way the world was viewed by those that saw the rise or mankind eons ago. Before it had spread across the globe and before the advent of such technological advances. Things looked different to them, even to him. Revan was precious, he had acted like a father and guide to more of their kind than any vampire he had ever met. He who had been so selfless for six thousands year plus only to be walked on. Everyone had their breaking point.

"I question your taste in wine. Father was left without too, long ago. I like you Rogue...you know as a friend...but don't be foolish if they do decide they want what is theirs. Who knows how they are going to react, they made pull strings from the shadows or they may wake up hungry."

Looking up at her somewhat sternly.

"All the blood you have tasted until now will mean nothing if they come against you together. They would devour us like fledglings, do not let your short history blind you to their strength. Da would be a valuable ally, if no one else you would survive."

"Gabriel...quiet your tongue. I do not require you to beg her for her affection anymore, she chose her side years ago and remains unshaken. Despair is the price one pays for setting oneself an impossible aim.."

"Yes, Da."

"Nevermind, there really isn't a reason to worry but these are things I think about often. Its not like they are on the horizon plotting to take over, just waking up."

Turning away from her he walked towards the gate of the cemetary. He had overstayed his welcome again he thought. Maybe he should do some patrolling in the city. He was more or less free from errand at the moment and might as well try to help as much as he could with law and order in the coven here. He hated being so serious all the time.

Rogue knew her strengths were not her mere nobility, but also her inner savagery...her wild and unpredictable nature.

"I know there is a bond deeper than friends between you and I, Gabriel," she spoke in a low whisper, but knew he very well could hear each word.

"When such wine was offered, did I completely have a choice? Do I even have a choice to deny that my blood calls to your blood as Revan's calls to my own?"

"If their forces would come together, I know whatever strength I have is merely meaningless, and I know with Revan as an ally or not, he would make sure I survive. For whatever reason, I know he waits patiently. And he knows as well as I that he very well might not be waiting for me in vain."

She crouched on the top of a large cross but her eyes were staring unblinkingly at him.

Lance had long since finished his sandwich. He'd been about to leave, when he'd heard the two talking, at the very edges of his hearing. He slinked closer as quietly as he could, not understanding even a fifth of what they spoke about, knowing only that it seemed...interesting, and that the pair he eavesdropped on were not human. He stowed the sandwich wrapped in his pocket, with the quietest of crinkles.

Revans presence left Gabriel and he suspected he was going back to sleep. How long would he stay couped up there hiding from the world, what was he waiting for Gabriel thought. Perhaps he was ashamed, Revan was not gentle on the eyes anymore. Rogue was a good one, he would like to stand with her in a fight once or twice. Those type of fights never happened anymore. As he drew closer to the gate the wet dog smell grew stronger and he acknowledged the young man that had been listening in on his conversation with Rogue.

"Humans say it is rude to eavesdrop, in the world of darkness it is dangerous."

Gabriel dashed before the person and reached up to grasp a heavy tree branch only to snap it in a shower of splinters and brandished it as a club over his shoulder looking down on the man. A living man that smelled like a dog, judging from his skin and face he was a young one. Still wet behind the ears, hardly a soldier in any conflict against him or his kin.

"Learn anything worth dying over?"

Gabriel let his eyes become bloodshot and stared hard down at the young lycan. His own views on lycans were mixed, enough had been felled by him but not all. A few times he had come across them and they had been somewhat peacable but on the whole he remembered entire times in history, of a century or more where the relationship between the two factions was bloody at best.

Rogue's eyes darted to the lycan and a low gutteral feral growl resounded in her throat and she perched, waiting for the lycan to speak.

Lance squeaked, and fell on his behind, hands digging into the ground. His mouth opened, not in a growl, or any sign of aggression, his jaw had simply dropped. His eyes darted over to Rogue briefly, and his breath hitched, taking in the marvelously beautiful vampire. He re- focused on the man before him with admirable speed or a teenage male. "N-no...s-sorry..." He started to scrabble backwards, biting his lower lip fearfully. "I-I was just curious..." His eyes shook a little, meeting Gabriel's stare, and then lowered.

"Thats a pity."

Gabriel brought the limb down hard and fast towards the boys head. Instead however the wind off it was all that hit the boy and it splintered into thousands of pieces as he crushed it on the wall and let it fall in to the ground. Standing up he crossed his arms and looked the young man over for a minute. Sniveling. He was going to have to toughen up if he was going to survive in the world. New York was a relatively peaceful place to live compared to the less governed far corners.

"Stand up!"
