"Well, who am I to get in the way of important work?" Donovan smiled, "It's a deal," he murmured with a slight nod, "Oh... and you might want to just throw the elves some sort of informational bone if you will, so we can get out of your hair."

Which to say, tell them anything, because sometimes what a person did not say, often told a person something else that was important. Donovan straightened up a bit now that this conversation was done, one he was sure Gion and Nadya heard.

"Well, I'm glad we got any misunderstandings sorted out," he told the dwarf as if they had not just been talking about the possible killing of another elf.

The dwarf nodded and returned to his seat next to the leader. "We wait to hear from you, then," he told Donovan emotionlessly.

He spoke with the leader briefly, then gestured for the three of them to leave.

Gion tried his best to keep his face expressionless, but he felt a cold fury building up inside him as he took Nadya's hand and led her once more to the door. He was indeed the one that they had intended Donovan to find, and it proved that they were the ones who were torturing his mother so mercilessly. But he wasn't going to do anything about it at the moment, not while Nadya was so close to the danger.

The next time they went back, though ...

Nadya allowed Gion to lead her out of the room. She was grateful to Donovan for taking over the questioning for her. She would not have been able to get them to answer her questions, she was certain - not as effectively as he had.

Not to mention, she was as terrified as ever, though she had retreated halfway into her mind so that she wouldn't appear so.

She kept silent as Gion led her out of the room. Despite his efforts to remain calm, she could see that he was upset - and rightly so.

Donovan nodded as he headed out with the others, this time falling back to the rear. It was too dangerous to speak of it now, but when they got back, it was something to discuss, though it made him wonder how they were going to just take care of the leader.

Well, he thought absently, one thing at a time.

Nadya remained silent right up until they reached the outcropping of rock that they had been sleeping under and rejoined Triton, Yue and Mia. Her face was quite pale, and her hands were trembling beneath her cloak as she moved silently forward and sat down against the rock.

She had heard so much about them ... but never had she even imagined what it would truly be like to encounter a dwarf ...

Gion also brushed past the others who had been waiting for them without acknowledging them. It wasn't that he didn't want to talk to them, but he was worried about Nadya, and about what he might say or do due to the anger that had build up inside him after their encounter with the dwarfs. He was almost shaking, he was so furious.

He knelt beside Nadya and took her hands in his own, trying to calm her. He would let Donovan explain what had happened - he would do a better job of explaining it to them anyways.

Triton frowned feeling a bit on edge, since Gion wasn't in a good mood he didn't know if that meant things went badly for not. Perhaps things did, maybe they did not, but his friend seemed unhappy. Not to mention he had never seen Gion like this, had someone touched Nadya?

He turned to Donovan, expecting the man to spout some sort of searing comment about the trio's time down there. Somehow, the neko could not imagine Donovan not making some sort of comment that was biting to the bone.

"Well that had been most educating," Donovan replied drly.

He went on to explain exactly what had transpired in that fortress underground. Donovan did have a sarconic comment about the leader's attempt to hire him.

"But that could be a useful advantage, if they think I'm hirable it won't be hard to get back in a second time," Donovan muttered, "Though it certainly makes things a pain in the a** for the rest of us."

He didn't bother to hide his language around Mia, it was Mia for crying aloud, she could handle it.

"Leader first," Donovan wanted to confirm, "Take any kids if we happen to run into them, we if we portal back it isn't an issue. Yue, I'll lend my magic if we need to, though someone..." he murmured, "Is going to have to drop off a report to the elves here about the kids and doing full cloak checks coming in and coming out before we off the guy. I don't think we'll be sticking around long enough to hand it to them afterwards."

The sooner the better, this was obviously a lucterive business for the humans here, if there was a bit more of a lack of business then it would ease things up a bit. Not that he was getting his hopes up, but personally Donovan didn't want to deal with two problems instead of one.

Yue frowned at this, it certainly complicated things a bit, but not so much they could not deal with it. He supposed it was his upbringing, because he found the idea of using children quite replusive really, being a father himself and all.

Still, he nodded in agreement, "Still, best we do this quietly, or in such a way as they cannot agree exactly what happened until it is too late and we are gone," he murmured softly, "Perhaps with a bit of fear added in."

"Is there anything I can do?" Mia pipped up finally the idea of fear made her giddy, because fear was what she was good at, she wanted to help after all.

Even though she knew Donovan did not want her to be here for this, she still wanted to do something.

Meanwhile back at the castle, Lin, who had been up since who knew went had actually, kind of, sort of... out of complete boredom and the result of running around with Nina at early hours of the morning dozed off. Besides it was comfy and she was bored.

Nadya allowed Gion to take her hands and sit close to her. Under normal circumstances she would perhaps have been a bit more sensitive about showing intimacy in front of others, especially since they were only engaged, but at the moment she needed the comfort.

"Donovan," she spoke up, her voice soft and trembling slightly, "what if I were to talk to the elves when you and the others return to the dwarfs?" Her face flushed slightly, and she lowered her gaze. "I'm sorry, but I don't think I can go back down there again."

Gion held Nadya's hands in his own and massaged them gently with his thumbs. He agreed with Nadya's proposal - he didn't want her down there again, either, especially if they were going to be fighting. On the other hand, he didn't want her going anywhere alone, even if it was just to talk to the elven guards. Elves or no, who knew how long they had been up here without the company of women?

The guard holding Lin was slightly amused. She really hadn't been with him for very long, but it looked as though she was either incredibly bored or incredibly tired. Well, he would set her down again as soon as she woke up, Prince Ruel had long since made it to the armoury, so it would be all right. And really, he didn't mind holding her. It had been centuries since he had held his own children, and it was something he missed. Grandchildren were out of the question, since all his family save himself had been killed in the war. Still, he clung to their memories - and moments like these - to keep him sane.

"I wouldn't advise you to go down again," Donovan murmured, "We'll probably be in a fight, a long one at worse, hopefully it won't be too long."

Now that would be a pain he thought, to have to fight against a lot of people smaller than him, because aiming would be a pain. It was one thing to fight an opponent who was smalle than you, but several of htem was just a bit excessive. Nevermind the problems in hand to hand combant in doing so.

"What do you think Gion?" he asked because Gion knew Nadya the best, and he also asked because Gion was a more aware of this land than he was.

Afterall, there didn't seem to be a problem, except he didn't like the elves that were standing guard. The slightly paraiod side of him would rather send someone along with Nadya, but to be fair he knew that he could be ovelry paraniod at times.

Gion gave Nadya's hands a tight squeeze before releasing them and turning to face Donovan. He raised his own hands and signed, I think it's a good idea, her going to talk to the elves. I'd much rather her do that than go anywhere near the dwarfs. However, I don't want her going alone.

His eyes took on a hard look.

My only question, then, he went on, is, if we have to make a quick escape through a portal, how will we all meet up again? What if we get trapped down below and have to use a portal to get out of there, how would we get Nadya again, and whoever else is with her?
