It took mere moments, but the only indication Janani got that anybody was there was barely audible beep, at least from where she was at the entrance. It was the last beep in what Cora's 'onboard' computer had just stated. Janani has no way of knowing this, but it stills her breath nonetheless. She only hopes that beep didn't indicate some futuristic weapon Cora has access to and was preparing to attack her with... Shaking that thought from her head, she only holds tighter to WhiteRose. She now begins to creep through the library, and she soon hears a light crying. Janani looks down, somewhat embarrassed. She has no idea what happened. She really didn't understand a lot of it... Beside that, Cora doesn't even like her...even hates her. No... If Tavin wasn't telling the truth, than 'hate' would be the right word... Right? She shakes her head as Cora comes into view, way too many thoughts passing through her head. When she tries to speak, it would barely be audible.
C...Cora... A...
She pauses and tries to speak up, but she's still barely audible.
Are you okay...?
Janani immediately prepares herself by seeking a shield in her plush.

:::Cora hears Janani just fine. Her hearing had even picked up Janani's giant steps well before she spoke. She lifted her head slowly though, as though it weighed too much for Cora to bother picking it up quickly:::

When Cora looks up, Janani closes her eyes. When the verbal assault doesn't come, she slowly opens one eye...then the other...only to blink. She is surprised that Cora's so...mellow now when she was flying off the handle only a few moments before... She swallows and is able to use a level tone this time.
Are you okay, Cora?

The tone in Cora's voice... Thinking on it, Janani realizes that there isn't any.

Cora's question and response confuse Janani. She takes a couple steps closer, to test the waters so to speak.
Have I been ordered to watch you? No... I am worried about you...
She sighs. Maybe she's more worried now than before.
You mean you drugged yourself?
That's the right human term. Right?
Cora...! Why...?
She holds tighter to WhiteRose. This is getting scary in far different ways than normal.

It wasn't just anger, it was altering my thoughts beyond a healthy level. You wouldn't understand. :::Cora blinked slowly... perhaps for the first time she was looking at Janani::::

This isn't normal human behavior... This is unhealthy... This just isn't right!
Cora! This is unhealthy!
She blinks as she states her thoughts. Taking in a deep breath, she holds tight to WhiteRose. It really is as if that plush is a shield for her, which would be a normal child-like response.
I may not understand, but I've seen human behavior and reactions for a very long time... I want to see the Cora Tavin spoke of. I want to see the Cora everybody I've talked to in this place spoke of!
She pauses.
I've even been trying to learn more human etiquette so maybe...so maybe you wouldn't hate me anymore...
She'd whispered that part while looking down in embarrassment.
Do I really need a reason, Cora?!

I hate you. I hate you because if the Seraphim told you to spy for him, you would. And if he told you to kill the people I love, you would. The captain, and everyone who you've spoken to about me know me as friends. I don't hate them. But I do hate you. This is the Cora you know. And as long as you take orders from the Seraphim, this is the only Cora you'll know.

Janani nearly as tears in her eyes as she closes them and nearly yells.
You made it clear by not listening to me! You keep referring to the Seraphim as one entity without understanding them! You keep referring to my people, the Shard, as if we can understand everything! We simply cannot!
She takes a few ragged breaths.
You assume all the Seraphim would fight, would kill without reason! Shards exist only to protect. Only as humans exist do we have a reason, a purpose! You hate me because you won't listen to everything I have to say!
Now she is crying.
I've never seen the Cora Tavin's spoken of... I've never seen the Cora so esteemed here... I can't disobey an order that has the potential of protecting humanity, but orders to kill humans...! You think the Seraphim would give them to a mere Celest? Those are for Angels of Death... Grim Reapers... We're demon slayers, Cora! You just won't listen to me long enough to care!
Janani's face is flush red. She can't believe how close she's come to losing her temper, but that's what separates the Celest from the Angels. Celest can understand more of human emotions because they have a similar lack of control.
Cora... I haven't been ordered to spy. I haven't gone through my Quickening, so I'm not strong enough to fight demons yet. Do you think things are so simple as hearing that a Seraphim or two you've seen have fallen and that being absolute proof? How am I supposed to tell?!

You're not just any 'Shard', Janani. You're a Shard that visits the Brink. The Seraphim could use that, against us.

Janani shakes her head.
I'm still just a child... Do you think the Seraphim could trust a child with something they think important? What if a loyal Seraphim wants me to watch you for incursions by a fallen Seraphim? Have you ever thought about that...?
Before anything more can be said...Janani fades out.
