"Yay!" Feng grinned.

Not that it mattered to her, but it would be nice to slide back into the river after all the celebrations were done.

"Naida, come on!"

"I'm coming!" Naida thought she was a bit heavier than before but she floated anyways swimming in the air along side her mother.

Miyuki yawned again and went to get her parents, if she slept it meant tomorrow she could play again!

Earendil was helping Lin to her feet. He was tired, but he was coping well enough; his eyes were open, at least, and his speech was clear, his steps sure.

He spotted Miyuki coming towards them and held one hand out to her. "Ready for bed?" he asked her with a gentle smile.

Miyuki nodded quickly taking her ada's hand, "Yea.... I'm sleepy."

And she was more than happy to cuddle with the kitties and go to bed. Which kind of made her wonder what they had been up to for most of the day.

Lin wobbled a bit and decided she was very much not use to these late nights.

"Then bed it is," she agreed, "I think we're all sleepy."

And so they went to bed.

When morning came, Haradhel served a warm breakfast, and then there was a long line of people (all the fighters and everyone from the ranch) heading towards the valley, where the Yestarë celebrations would take place.

River pushed her way against the crowd, looking for Miyuki. She wanted to go with her friend!

Miyuki was with her parents and her grandparents bouncing up and down and thanking her grandfather for her new clothes. Her grandfather had a camera and was grinning like a madman, probably had to do with the fact Miyuki's clothes was scarlet and gold.

And they were Lin's old Lunar New Year clothes that had been expertly refitted by Helen. She even had her hair pulled back into a small half ponytail fitted with a jade hairclip and a jade bracelet just for her.

It probably didn't help that Donovan had slipped Earendil a red envelope earlier that held a gold coin (because putting in several silver would rip the paper) and a picture of one pouty child Lin wearing the exact same outfit.

Lin had given her father a look, it was hard to tell if it was because he obviously had planned Miyuki's clothes or the fact he grinned stupidly upon seeing her. Since today was Yestarë she couldn't wear anything dark, which accounted for all her normal clothes. So instead she was wearing one of the outfits that her grandmother gave her. It was mainly white except for the blue and white snowflake trim.

He of course gave one to his daughter as well (wedding gifts) and then gave another one with a silver that was supposed to for Miyuki (for the New Year when she was older).

"Hold still," Donovan murmured, "Ah... got it."

"You are enjoying this way too much," Kara laughed at her husband.

Earendil was more than pleased with his gift, and he tucked it away happily while he waited for Donovan to finish with Miyuki and Lin. He was dressed in a white tunic and pants that were trimmed in gold, even wearing a pair of white leather boots. They weren't new to him, though they were kept in remarkably good condition; they were the clothes that he reserved for the new year, every year.

"Come on," he smiled at the others. "We don't want to be late for Yestarë, it's an hour's walk, after all."

"Alright," Donovan replied, "Done."

He slipped his camera into a holder on his belt. At the urging of his daughter he had forgone his normal wear and instead was wearing something more festive.

It was strange a bit to see Donovan in red.

He took one of his daughters from Kara and the group began their trek into the valley.

Lin took Earendil's arm, walking along side him.

River spotted the group and pushed her way through the crowd to get to them, her eyes bright and excited when she finally arrived.

"Miyuki!" she beamed. "Come on, let's run ahead! Then we can start faster!"

Miyuki looked up at her parents, as if to ask if it was alright for her to run on ahead.

Lin grinned and nodded, "Have fun."

She didn't worry about Miyuki getting into trouble, she was with River and they were in a safe place. Everything should be just fine.

"Coming!" the little girl hollered before running after River.

Slipping through the line of people who were heading towards the valley, by the time River and Miyuki arrived, about half of the people from the ranch had as well.

There were a few of the same things as the day before set up, but there were also new things: the river had been made use of as well, and there were a few races that would take place on it that day as well. There would be a canoe race, for individuals, and a dragonboat race, for teams, as well as swimming races for any who dared brave the cold spring water.

There were banners and ribbons hanging up everywhere, and there were several carved posts in the ground, representing the different games that were set up near them.

Today was also set up to be a little bit more child-friendly: there were a few games that were designed especially for children, even though there were so few children.

But the most tables were set up together for food: some food for meals, but predominantly cakes and pies of every sort imaginable.

Eyes lit up upon the site of the festival, the one yesterday was fun, but this one looked even more fun if that was possible. Not to mention Miyuki did have an eye for sweets, but fortunately she had breakfast so it wasn't quite tempting just yet.

"Where to first?" she asked River.

She didn't know where to begin.

"It's up to you," River grinned at Miyuki. "There's going to be another archery contest later, but I'm not going to take part. I just want to watch it. Other than that, I'm up for anything at all!"

She didn't want to be the one dragging Miyuki around, after all!

Miyuki had to think about it, because there were so many things to look at. She really wasn't one for the contests because she couldn't do any of them (and she couldn't swim). It was too early to eat anything at the moment...

"The games," she finally decided, "I'm not hungry yet, but I might want to watch the contests..."

She wondered if the mers were going to swim.

River grinned. "Okay. And Nineko said yesterday that he made something especially for the children, so I guess he'll show it to us sometime too."

She looked towards the games. There was again the matching game, but there were also more thoughtful games - the shell game, which Adanedhel was running, as well as games of estimating how much of something was in a jar, or something similar; riddles and logic puzzles; games of throwing balls at items that had been set up, trying to knock them over; guessing how long someone could do something - and so on.

"What about the maze?" River suggested finally, motioning towards a maze of hedges that had sprung up overnight. "It might take us a while to get through it, but it's always fun. Ninako makes a different one every year!"

Miyuki's eyes widen at the sight of the maze.

"That's really neat! So we just go through and try to find the way to the other side?"

It sounded easy enough but she heard mazes could be kind of hard to get through.
