"Uhm... I thought he was... killed..."

Of course granted another logical part of her brain wondered how that was possible, because she was also well aware that elves fell in love for life. They where the poster children of the red thread idea.

"I'm missing something..."

She almost went cross eyed looking at his finger, but putting things into her mouth was natural for Miyuki. So in went the finger, and she sucked on it happily, it was sweet and tasty.

Ulani smiled at Lin. "Yes, he was killed. He was as dead as a person can be. But you see, because of how he had died, his body had not been recovered, and he had not been buried. My mother once discovered how the dead could be revived ... under certain conditions. But to do so is paramount to suicide."

She reached into the front of her tunic and pulled out the small leather pouch that contained her elfstones, and dumped the small stones into her palm to show Lin. There were three of them, white so pure that they seemed to dazzle, even inside where there was no light shining on them.

"My mother used her elfstones when she tried it," she explained, "and she was able to survive. Regan ..."

"She had a unicorn's horn," Ulrich supplied. "She didn't have her elfstones at that time."

Earendil glanced over at Ulani's hand, and he broke into a wide grin when he saw the stones. "Impressive," he murmured. "Those are the rarest of the rare."

Lin had seen Ulani's elf stones before, but it was hard to imagine anyone using them to bring back the dead. The thought was a bit weird and she could understand why it would suicide to do so.

"That's... incredible, scary but incredible."

And it seemed Aldrichs' were destined to have really larger than life things happen to them.

Miyuki glanced over at the shinies since she had a good view from Earendil's lap, but she was too busy sucking on his finger. She stopped when the sweet stuff was gone and realized that sucking more wouldn't make it come back.

"Pfth...." she reached over to Earendil's pie.

Ulani slid the stones back into their pouch and put them away. "If Mother hadn't had her stones, I doubt she would have been able to defeat the guardian," she said with a grimace.

"I still don't know how the unicorn's horn helped Regan," Ulrich shrugged.

"They're just as magical as the stones, if not more so," Ulani reminded him. "I just wish she had kept it with her."

"Do you still have it?"

Ulani nodded. "In the bedroom."

Earendil chuckled and moved Miyuki to the knee away from the pie. "Don't touch," he murmured. He dipped his pinky finger again and put it to Miyuki's lips to give her another taste of the sweet filling.

It seemed sort of weird to keep something that powerful around, not that Lin was one to talk, who knew what sort of things laid around in her home. Magic was a very powerful force.

"She's going to have a sweet tooth," Lin told Earendil absently as she watched him give Miyuki the second helping.

Obviously Miyuki didn't need to be told twice as she latched onto Earendil's pinky happily. She was very happy, to the point where she was making happy noises, her mother couldn't help but wonder did foxes purr?

Earendil chuckled. "Yes, well, there are worse things. Besides, it's not as if it's bad sweets. It's strawberries, what's wrong with that?"

"With sugar," Ulani grinned. "But you're right, it's not a lot of sugar."

Lin giggled at that as she watched Miyuki enjoy herself. Her busy tail swishing back and forth happily. Though Lin couldn't help but think that out of all of the kids Earendil would spoil, Miyuki was on the top of the list.

She went back to eating her pie as she watched the two with amusement.

"Ah!" his finger was clean again, no more of that good tasting stuff.

"You know," Earendil chuckled at Miyuki, tapping the end of her nose lightly, "you're going to leave me with nothing if you're not careful."

He picked up his fork and broke off a piece and took a bite. "See?" he grinned. "Mine."

Miyuki pouted at him though oddly enough didn't make any more noises only stared at him. Sort of like a cat would when they really wanted something, it made her mother wondered what went on in her head.

Despite it all Lin had to laugh, "You started it, she likes it and now wants more."

Though that did also bring up the question of how much solid food should she be giving Miyuki now. She had been giving her mushed up foods but... Lin was a bit at a lost of how much Miyuki could have. If it weren't for her mother she would be completely lost.

Earendil took another bite, watching Miyuki as he ate. She was just ... too cute ...

"She's going to break my heart if she keeps looking at me like that," he murmured. He watched Miyuki as he ate. She was just staring at him ...

"Just like a fox," Ulani chuckled. "That's just adorable."

Earendil licked his lips slowly. He could see himself giving in to that look very often in the future ...

Finished with her pie, Lin set her plate aside before getting up and strolling over to Earendil and Miyuki.

"Come on you," Lin chuckled picking Miyuki up and tickling her, "You are going to have Earendil wrapped around your little finger if you keep that up."

Though really Lin thought it was way too late for that.

Mind off the sweet red thing Miyuki giggled and tried to go for Lin's fingers instead.

Earendil chuckled, and now that he was no longer holding Miyuki, he held his plate in his hand and ate a bit more quickly.

"You know," Ulani commented, tilting her head slightly, "it's probably a good thing Earendil doesn't have children of his own. They would be spoiled rotten."

Earendil flushed, but he couldn't argue it. He knew he spoiled kids. But he was sure that if he had his own, he would be more strict with them.

Lin thought back to her own childhood, Earendil had been quite old while she had been a child. She only could recall being tossed up like that as well at one point.

"As long as it's only playing and not actual giving of objects spoiled," Lin replied, "Earendil would play with me a lot too when I was little."

Actually she had been somewhat spoiled as a child by Earendil too (well she still was she thought).

"That's true," Earendil chuckled. "I did. And look, you turned out just fine. I'm sure Miyuki will be fine."

"Ulrich used to spoil Adanedhel," Ulani recalled with an amused smile. "Every time he did something ... anything at all, Ulrich would give him a carving. I think it's more the attitude that can come with the spoiling that is trouble, but as long as you're careful about it ..."

Earendil glanced at Lin. "Adanedhel?"

"Aliya's oldest, he's their grandson and I remember those carvings. Ulrich also made swings too...."

She remembered because it had mers on one of them and it was interesting, but then again Feng had adored Adanedhel and she was sure he was the reason why she felt the mothering need to have children of her own.
