Kal picked his bag up, slinging it on his back. "Well, that was pretty clear. I'd talk to this statue more times out of ten than that dragon statue we ran into in the cave," he commented. He then turned and nodded to Laren. "I guess this is where you go your way and we'll meet up with you later. Best of luck on your own travel, Laren," he wished to Laren before turning towards Erron, his pack settling on his shouldars. "So, which way are we headed? You still carry the map, I believe, yes?" he asked, wishing to head off. They had a job to do, as always, and the sooner they did it, the sooner they could reconnect with Laren. "The only other thing we'd need to do before leaving is set up a rendevouz point. For after both, our mission and hers, to meet up at. I'd hate to lose a comrade," he added seriously. He had begun to view this group as a family, like the old orphan family of thieves he'd been in. He didn't want to lose any more family than he had to. Especially when he recalled that Laren was the first to begin to trust him and actually watchout for him.

The first night he'd come to the group, he'd noticed a falcon within eyeshot of where he was sleeping in the caravan. She'd sent him a watchout, for him. He trusted that it was mostly for his safety, especially when she was the one to introduce him to the caravan leader. He saw her as the closest person in the group to him, in many ways. She was one he would rather not lose... he'd become accustomed to her being there.

Erron pondered a moment as he unrolled the map upon a tree stump

"I suppose the best rendezvous would be between the Dwarven Keep and the Forst, This might be as good a place as any, but lets check the map in case there is something more obviously hospitable....though this area is as discreet as any." He traced a finger from the Mountain to the forest, the Alter seemed to land exactly in the middle, and might indeed be a battleground if they fail in their endeavor.

"We will have to be cautious in our traveling arrangements as our most skilled in tracking has left us for now...Let us go, keep a sharp eye and honed ear out for anything that may be suspicious."

Kal, after studying the map, knew the general direction he was headed, and took great heed to Erron's warning. He kept his eyes peeled for traps and his ears peeled for ambushes. He walked ahead, keeping a slight distance ahead of the group.

Laren remained quiet as they moved together. Her elven legs strode swiftly, bringing her to the side of the human monk, they were within earshot of the rest of the group.

"Erron... I don't intend on returning. The elves of Telanor Dera'na may not be my family, but they are my people. All elves hold loyalty to the Forest itself. I will take my leave of you all and go attempt to speak reason with the Grand Druid. Perhaps someday we will cross paths again."

The ranger smiled and gave a half-bow before those nearby and caught up to the halfling.

"Farewell, Kal... I'll not forget our time together... Seek me out in Telanor in the future... I'm sure someone who can wear the shadows as well as you can find your way there at some point."

She offered a quick wink and kissed the halfling on the cheek before disappearing into the woods.

Kal heard Laren tell Erron that she planned on staying at the Elven area, Telanor. He froze in his steps, feeling like he was losing part of his family. He didn't want her to go. Anyone else could leave... he wanted her to stay. Then she caught up to him and he put on a figurative mask, ready to wish her luck on her travels... His words seemed to get caught in his throat though. He listened to her words as she spoke, echoing Telanor inside his mind to memorize it. He saw her smile and couldn't help but give a genuine one back. Her vote of confidence in him, and the confidence that they'd see one another again.... lightened him slightly. Then her next actions stunned him. He saw the friendly wink, and then felt her lips against his cheek, and his mind seemed to freeze up, locking that moment into his memory.

After a few moments, as he regained himself, he could tell she was gone. He turned away from the group, turning his face cold, which was better than the other option, crying. He heard his voice echo the feeling of loss in cold numbness. "So, I guess a rendezous spot is worthless and unneeded now. We still headed for the dwarves?" he asked, a chill in his words. The Gates of Anvil being the direction he was currently headed. His memory on details was pretty significant. As a thief, you had to know every detail, and every layout of every house in the area. So, he knew how to quickly memorize a map. His 'Father' had taught him that skill.

Erron watched the exchange giving the two proper privacy, he felt in his heart a heavy weight, "How many more would part ways before the journey was through?" He had thought running from village when he was young was difficult, leaving his friends and whatever parts of his family cared, leaving the dojo where he was a friend, a mentor and also a brother was harder, but hardest of all must be being left by someone with whom you had shared part of yourself, He turned and gazed towards the clear sky and stared at the boundless expanse.

When he turned back Laren walked past him, he could have sword he heard her say "Protect them" but it may just have been the sound of the wind.

"Lets keep going" he said keeping a clear face, we have to do our part..." He was beginning to be unsure just what their part in all this was amounting to.

Kal nodded, not wishing to speak at the moment, and began to head towards Anvil's gates. The team seeming to be quiet, just to his taste. Either they were all thinking about the leaving family member... or they knew it was affecting him.

Brurag finally awoke from his long slumber. He grumbled at the lack of any mystical dream before he got up and stretched. He scratched his head, picking up his weapon and returning it to the sling on his back. He walked over to where the group was, watching the elf leave.
Good riddance.
He thought. So far she had only argued with him and bothered him with her presence. The others looked pretty sad though.
Oh well, there's nothing I can do about it.
Acting as though the elf woman's leaving had little to no affect on him, he asked the group,
"So, where are we headed to next. Hopefully a place with more dangerous beasts and less annoying squirrels."

Erron hadn't paid much attention to the rest of his silent comrades as he assumed they were somewhere deep in thought, he was currently walking with his shoes off to experience the fresh dew of the untrod grass slip between his toes: He rather liked the sensation, when Brurag spoke up he broke his concentration on the small and simple enjoyment and turning mid-step to face him while continuing his gait backwards, skipping every so often to avoid a rock or root here and there, and began to explain what had undergone

"So basically We're going to the greatest Dwarven City as Emissaries of Truth...or Harbingers of Bad News, whichever you prefer, I'm rather hoping that we DON'T get stuffed into a jail for what is about to go down, understandably the King might not take it well that one of his emissaries had died, and might not believe that we were his friends."

Kal took a deep breath to put aside his emotions for the time being, trying to disconnect. "Who says we have to speak to the man, First?" he asked bluntly. He knew Brurag would probably like his next suggestion better. "People are easily persuaded when their life is on the line and they have everything to lose. So, we make his life threatened in one way or another, and he will begin to see things our way," he offered his plan. He didn't feel like being 'nice'. Righteous, true, and just, seemed to get him nowhere and his closest ally leaving wasn't helping Tjaden's teachings any more. "If we are likely to be sent to jail either way, at least show people that God can bleed. If they know he's weak and mortal, others will attempt to kill him.... like sharks to blood..." he reasoned out loud. That would put the King's life at stake... if it accomplished nothing else.

Erron scratched his chin "If you want to take that route I really suggest taking it somewhere you aren't likely to fall into an endless hole, I seem to recall reading some books about dwarvish stone masonry, and how it would be typical for traps to be set everywhere, and perfectly hidden even from the eye of a career thief. even giant stone drawbridges being double hinged to drop intruders into a river of molten lava...the bridge itself would be perfectly fine. its really quite fascinating from the mechanical standpoint."

He closed an eye and grinned a bit of a wild smile though before finishing and continued "Though I'd rather not sit in a dwarven prison, I hear the "legal" system is monstrously slow, and often fatal. In which case lets at least figure out the traps beforehand" He finished.

Kal nodded to finding out about the mechanics of thier traps. The library at this place would definately be worth checking out. He set his goal in his mind, still waiting for them to arrive at the Gates of Deepanvil.

The current time is 11 p.m. on the 20th of Autumn's Grace.

The group nears the foothills of the Gates of Deepanvil. They still appear a few hours march away, however, it is not invisible to the naked eye from such distance. Even with such a long march ahead, the gates of the dwarven citadel could be seen, the fires of its braziers presenting some of the only beacons for miles. The luminance of the blaze shining off the stone and metalwork around the entrance to the mountain city was breathtaking.

The party might have chosen to rest and simply enjoy this sight, however the screams and call of battle broke them from their reverie and forced them to face the coming threat. The war between the elves and dwarves was already underway and they were apparently struggling in this very area, the foothills of the mountains.

Erron stared at the field of swords and bodies, this was unexpected. They were stuck in a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation, If they proceeded ahead they would wind up in the middle of a battlefield and would be judged as an ally of one side depending on who attacked them first, they weren't here to fight, they were simply trying to stop the war.

He opened his mouth and closed it several times, starting a line, and catching himself, before simply eliciting a low "Hrm"

He finally spoke.
"I don't suppose we have any bright ideas? All I can think of is to circumnavigate the battlefield.
