Amelia pursed her lips, nodding once. She didn't quite understand this, souls of the men he had been forced to kill coming for him to exact revenge. Nothing like that had ever happened to her before... Maybe this is... something that only happens to men of the holy sect? Since they would be more in-tune to things like this...
She stopped thinking at his arms wrapping around her waist. She nodded, speechless for a few moments. "...Good..." she said, relieved. "Yes... We're safe." Amelia hugged him tight, partially to hide the pink color flaring up on her face.

Ed woke up at some later point in time.
Some presents remained under the tree.
What the heck? Are some people still missing? When Ed glanced through the presents, she found her counterpart's present wrapped and untouched. Either he came by and didn't care to look, or he didn't come back at all...
This was worrisome. He'd been gone for a while, last night even! Maybe Soren hadn't been taking several walks after all. She had considered that maybe the mage was ambushed, but she thought he would have been okay. Maybe not so much.
Ed got up. It was possible she was just being irrational. So she put her nose to the ground and slowly sniffed about, her black form gradually shuffling around rooms and down hallways and corridors. She would lift her head every few seconds and dart through rooms and hallways. She would peer into empty bedrooms, and if there was a closed door she'd sniff at the doorknob and the threshold. But nothing indicated that her comrade had recently been through here.
The wolf had explored the whole mansion within several minutes. She had no positive results. Younger Soren remained missing.
So that meant she had to go outside. Should she revert and take up her sword? Was it more dangerous in her current form, or was it safer? Well, it was definitely warmer. Ed didn't have any winter clothes that she could wear in combat.
Ed went to the front door, ready to leave. She stared out the doorway, her comrade's faded scent vaguely present on her nose.

Valter awoke when Ed darted past his open door. The warrior immediately sprang out of his bed and went to see what was going on. "Where are you going, Ed?" Valter asked in a whisper when he saw the wolf standing in front of the front door.

Ed's ears perked at the wyvern rider's appearance. She stared at him with her blue lupine eyes for a moment before bolting out into the snow (having somehow opened the door). The wolf stopped several feet away and gestured for Valter to come over, then began printing something in the snow. looking for Soren She turned around, whining at the forests in the distance. A faint scent trail went off from mansion, but she was sure it would be distorted along the way...

Valter walked over to Ed when she beckoned for him. "Oh..." Said the wyvern rider sleepily. "If that's the case, I'll come too." Valter went back inside to grab his lance, emerging a few minutes later. "Alright, I'm ready," the wyvern rider said.

Renault sat, by himself, against a wall in the side of the main room, staff lying next to him and his bag cradled in his arms. Well, this time had certainly been a good time of reflection for him, as well as a chance to gain the trust of some of the others around. And actually, for once the man felt good about himself. The only things he'd killed were a few monsters, things that shouldn't have been born anyway; and he'd protected the others of the guild. For once, he'd done nothing wrong.
After a moment, the bishop glanced over at the door and spoke up, suspecting what they were going for. "You won't find him," he told them quietly. "Not for a while. He said. . . he was going on a journey."

"Wha?!" Valter jumped a little when he heard a man's voice. "Oh, Renault. I didn't see you. But... We may find nothing, but we have to try..."

The wolf wagged her tail at this. This meant less risks if she was fighting the wrong enemy...and she had someone to keep safe as well. No problem. She loved having friends to help.
Her ears detected Renault's voice and she turned her head. "You won't find him. Not for a while. He said. . . he was going on a journey." Oh really? Her gaze was defiant, as though she refused to believe this. Soren had to come back! He even had a present to open, and a party was starting soon!
Ed proceeded into the snow, sniffing. She trotted along a few yards before sniffing again. There were so many footprints around, but Ed found a recent set of footprints with the mage's scent on them. As she followed the trail, she became more and more convinced Soren had passed through this path, for the set of footprints were isolated from the others.
Ed stopped along the trail, close to the forest. So he really had gone toward the mountains. But why? The wolf tilted her head back and howled at the sky, a hunting cry in the voice of a wolf that was, at heart, more thing than animal or person. She glanced over her shoulder to see if Valter followed, then darted into the forest, following footprints that she dreaded would lead to nowhere.

Valter turned his back to Renault and followed Ed through the snow. When she darted off into the woods, Valter started running to keep up. "Good thing I left my armor at Fefga's house..." The man mumbled to himself.

The bishop shrugged, then closed his eyes, turning inwards to reflect once again. Poor girl. Of course she wouldn't find him; he'd been gone for quite a while already. Nearly a week now, wasn't it? But, Renault himself wasn't worried; the sage could take care of himself. And he would come back eventually. He wouldn't dare stay away; there were people waiting for him. And if he didn't come back; why, then, the bishop himself would go after him and find him.
But for now, he had to consider what he was to do next. Of course, he couldn't leave; FEF had a shortage of healers as it was. And on that note, he should probably carry a healing staff more. But besides that, there was much work to be done, once this was over; cleaning up the town, since there was a huge mess from the creatures, getting the castle back in shape since it was likely still frozen over - though the magic had left, the ice it created may well not have - and of course, the matter of that b*****d god. That was something that none of them were likely prepared for.
After a moment, the bishop's eyes opened once again, and he raised them to look out the window at the sky. ". . . Lady Ashera," he spoke softly. "I will. . . protect you."

She was surprised. So far, so good. The only thing that disrupted the trail were the footprints of wildlife. His footprints were easiest to recognize, and the more she followed, the stronger the scent would become. She traversed deeper into the woods, the trees closing around them, the darkness thickening.
Ed was growing nervous. She wasn't sure if monsters were still about, but so far she hadn't encountered any. Maybe she didn't have to worry about an attack at all. The worst that there could be was a bandit group...
Why did he go on some journey and not tell anyone!? That is, if he hadn't told anyone. If he was telling people he was leaving, he should have said something to her — they were close allies, after all, or they were supposed to be! How did Renault know he was on some journey?
Ed was so furious, her trust so broken that there was something she did not realize. The wolf had stepped into a vast clearing. It was clean of any trace of presence — the lack of a fresh scent smacked her into awareness. When Ed looked up, she saw a clearing that was completely white. There were no footprints, and definitely no scents. In fact, it was almost a neatly tangled mess of snow, as though wind had beaten it around.
Ed looked helplessly at Valter. She didn't know where to go...but she wanted to find her friend. Maybe it would have helped her to be in her normal form after all. She could have at least used her voice then. But doing it now took too much time, concentration, and energy — not to mention she would have required a change of clothes.
Still, Ed couldn't give up. She howled once again, the sound full of yearning and pain and fury, before trotting off at a slower pace. The hunt was on.
[[ I'll let this be my last post for the night. It's almost time to go to bed, and nothing else will probably happen anyway. Let's finish this tomorrow, 'kay? Niiiight~ ]]

Valter continued to run after Ed for what seemed like hours, but was really only minutes. He was so eager to find his friend that seconds seemed to drag on into eternity. Finally, they reached a clearing. Ed stopped abruptly, Valter almost tripping over her. And then he noticed. The prints... they're gone!, he thought.
[[Okay. I should definitely be getting to bed too.]]

The sun broke the horizon. Out of the forests, the black wolf re-emerged with the wyvern lord nearby...but her head was hung in defeat, her ears low. She hadn't found her old ally. Not too long ago, Ed had fallen into a fit of failure and depression, for she had completely lost track of Soren (it wasn't her fault, the wind had deliberately swept away tracks and scents) and she decided that the two of them might have tired of the search. In the snow, she had printed to Valter: Tired and turned back around. Ed took a great length of time dragging her sorry hide back to Fefga's mansion. She really did feel weak from being so excited earlier, only to have it all crash. The wolf slowly slunk into the mansion. She sluggishly glanced back at Valter, the sadness evident in her eyes. Then the wolf pulled herself to the holiday tree. She picked up the younger Soren's gift in her jaws — the curved dagger — and slunk away. She crept across the room...across the hallway...up the stairs...down the second floor hallway...and reluctantly pawed at her own door, not wanting to open it herself. However, she mustered up enough energy to open the door and go into the room. Then the wolf managed to lock the door with a turn of her paw. With the door locked, she was certain no one could bother her. Her room. Her armoire awaited in the corner of the area. Ed dropped the curved dagger, still nicely wrapped, onto the small bed opposite of the wardrobe. Then the wolf lay in the middle of the room. She was as still as death itself, her eyes closed in something like slumber. A good half hour passed before her mind slipped into the state which allowed her body to unknowingly change, the fur receding, the skeleton clicking... ----------EDIT---------- With the transformation done and undisturbed, the girl weakly pulled herself into bed for a brief nap. She was terribly tired. Her transformation capabilities may have stretched over a few choices, but the actual process was never as efficient as the laguz. How she envied them... ...but they were from another world, after all. Ed trembled as she lay down, her form still weak from the fresh change. She pulled the blanket over herself and closed her eyes, drifting off into forgetful slumber, sinking into dreams suspended between a wolf's eyes and a human's, Soren's wrapped present still sitting upon the bedsheets. ----------EDIT:II---------- There was...a bunch of noise coming from downstairs. Ed was roused from her near-comatose slumber. She sat up, rubbing her eye, and groaned. She'd forgotten about the party. I guess I can't sulk here forever. I don't want to ruin anyone's party by being sulky, and I don't want to worry any friends by holing myself up here...The girl dragged herself to the armoire and selected a quick, casual outfit. She wondered how long it had been since anyone saw her in her natural form. Before long, Ed had herself outfitted proper for a party, casual or no. The girl hid Soren's gift beneath a pillow and slipped out of the room.

When he had seen what Ed had printed in the snow, he just nodded and turned around. Valter followed her silently, dissapointment weighing heavily on his mind. As the duo reached the mansion, Valter just ruffled Ed's fur and went to tell the others that the search had been fruitless.

Melethia had left the dance area due to Rei's choice of music. She was a bit angry as she somewhat dragged Renault with her. "Well now that the green haired pantsless shrimp ruinned the moment," She sighed, "I'm a bit mad."
