Pyroth nodded in response to her almost cryptic reply, it was adequate for him indeed, however, change on the island was not always for the better, though admittedly any change at this point would be welcome in some ways. He tilted his head slightly before replying "I think we are all a little worse for wear, this place ages you faster than any city I've ever known." But cities themselves were something he missed dearly, oh to hear the slosh of car tyres in the rain as they went past, halting at the traffic lights, oblivious to the people huddled round with their jackets and umbrellas. It was a world too far away now for him, faint whisps of another world, an old life but the vividness of the image was startling to him and it had been uncalled.

Emerwyn was becoming a deer, he knew, a prey animal more in tune to things that predators didn't care for, if a storm was coming a deer would be in a dry place long before the wolves that sought it. He didn't doubt anything that the other islander felt, even something as whimsical as a coming change. "Let us hope that any coming changes are for the better then. " he smiled warmly.

The city. She certainly did feel just like an old maid in the city. The bookshoppe was the only escape from that. The city itself was something Emerwyn did not miss. The rain beating on the broad jungle leaves beat the slosh of car tires any day. Under different circumstances, she would have been very happy here.

Emerwyn shared the smile. Pyroth's face was so human, startlingly human, in fact. And, he seemed happier, in a way. It may just be her imagination... maybe it was just a calm resignation.
"That all depends on what we make of it. I intend to take it on, and I will conquer my fears.
Have you conquered yours?"

Pyroth raised a brow, his fears? What were his fears? Well the most vivid one was the unknown, things he couldn't predict, after all, it had been his job at one time to predict, predict and in doing so, destroy. But there were others, lonliness, the future, all kinds of things. Most of which were irrelevant now he had surrendered himself to this new life, this new self. He'd be lonely of course, no one else would ever share his plight in all likliness but many of the islanders were like extended family and he could lean on them.

He nodded "Surprisingly enough I have conquered mine, there is little left to fear now. Any changes that come will be more interesting than to be feared." He had fought the changes every step of the way and thrown himself headlong into hell when really it seemed that when he accepted it was when he was most at ease.

Emerwyn smiled. Her feelings were correct.
"I am glad for you, then." But, what more is there for us to live for, when there is nothing left to fear?
She sighed. She was getting a little weary, so she leaned up against a tree.
"How easy it seems... to live like this. If it please us, we could simply sit and watch the sun rise and set, every day. What have we to work for anymore?"
She smiled softly as she spoke, and looked above her at the high sunlight playing green colors on the floor.

Now that was something Pyroth had been dwelling on a lot lately "Now that is true, I'd say that boredom has been one of the most destructive things I've had to put up with since I got here, not the injections, I could deal with the changes if I had duties to fulfil each day, responsibilities, but having nothing to do but, as you say, watch the sun rise and set is more self destructive than anything."

That was the worst thing about this transformation, he could no longer even do the things he had taken for granted, like drawing. All he'd be good for now would be storytelling and he wasn't even good at that, having never properly listened to his grandparents and family as a child.

"Moreau is the tyrant, boredom is the enemy."

Emerwyn nodded. Grimly, she thought, If I ever escape, I shall work every day 'til my fingers bleed without so much as a sigh.
But, she herself had now found something to work toward. She was going to discover what had happened to Jerrick, and she was going to save him. By whatever means necessary. And she would need to enlist the help of others. She considered speaking to Pyroth about it once she had an idea clear in her head.
After all, she would need to figure out how she would relay the information she discovered to Lyra.

Lost in thought, Emerwyn did not remark again.

Pyroth simply watched Em as she thought, wondering what was on her mind, all the time he'd known her she had been very secretive, keeping herself to herself for the most part. For all he knew she could have a hundred problems and he wouldn't know one of them. He used to be like that before he came here, but had snapped to the temptation of sharing whatever burdens he carried.

He eyed the river for a moment, it's path to the sea and freedom one not even the aquatic islanders could follow.

"Something on your mind?" he asked.

"Hmm?" Emerwyn locked eyes once more with the coyote. She'd nearly forgotten he was there.
"Oh... well. I was thinking - maybe, maybe there is something still for me to do here." She did not hint at what it was, but she certainly was not going to tell him that nothing was going on. She had very few, and very close-knit friends back home. Though she felt she could trust Pyroth, it was yet difficult to talk to him. Stranger still, she felt a similar problem with Ian...

Pyroth nodded understandingly. "Well if you ever need a willing ear then feel free to give me a holler, like I say, there isn't much else to do around here, I'd be only too willing to listen." He frowned, aware that he hadn't eaten in several hours and though he wasn't hungry at the moment he'd probably be soon and didn't want to deal with any of his possible actions if he did decide he was hungry, after all the intensity of his current instincts were still new to him and he hadn't been able to control himself before.

He got to his feet and bowed his head slightly "But for now I'd best be getting myself to the cafeteria for a snack." He still had his inherent dislike of food and eating from when he was human but now it was actually a behavioural influence and one he didn't want to go without.

"Hopefully things will have changed for you for the better next time we meet." he said with a toothy grin. "Take care."

And after waiting for her response, he turned and with agility and speed beyond what he'd ever had, sprinted off from the river and bounded off into the jungle's dense undergrowth.

"My thanks to you, Pyroth. I will see you soon."

Maybe she would ask him to help. But, what could he do? What could anyone do? What she had in mind was not something to request to the doctors. Besides, even if they said they'd help, it was all a facade. And they were probably done with facades by this point. Nearly all of their pets were housebroken by this point.

She waited a few minutes, still staring up at the dappled ceiling, reflecting once again on the words of her love.
And the warmth of the day took her, and she curled under the tree, and fell asleep.

~End~

***New RP***

Tomy sits down by the river, a sad morose shadow of his former self. He occasionally sips from one of the few V8 bottles he brought with him, but other than that does nothing but look contemplative. Every once in a while he'll attempt to throw a stone into the river, mostly just trying to get some manual dexterity back into his spindly hands.

Pyroth had been hanging around the river a lot lately, it was his primary source of drinking water in those times when he lived solely in the jungle, hunting his meals and generally remaining seperate from the local population of the island. As usual most of his day had been spent simply running and whiling the time away, the days flashed by when all you concerned yourself with was the hunt and when you were full, simply exploring.

So, at his usual time, he emerged from the undergrowth, shaking stray leafs from his pelt and looking down the bank. He was surprised to see someone there already, a changed islander, looking more alien than some of the individuals he'd come across in his time.

He frowned, deciding he might as well introduce himself, padding casually to seat himself on the ground not far away from Tommy, doing his best to look harmless.

With a sigh and a final flick of the wrist, Tommy casts his last stone into the water. He blinks a few times as he hears something coming out of the trees...he turns to look and seems more than a bit alarmed when at first he sees the coyote.

Tommy tenses up a bit, but then begins to notice some odd things. For one, the paws aren't normal, and he's way to large.

"...You've got to be kidding me..." he barely whispers to himself.

Pyroth casually glanced out towards the river where Tommy threw the last stone, maintaining his calm, smirking slightly to himself, looking feral. "No, no kidding I'm afraid." he stated bluntly "What you see isn't what you get in my case. My name is Pyroth."

He returned his intense yellow gaze to Tommy, noting the many physical changes in him with a little effort, as always he found it hard to think with his eyes instead of his nose. Clearly this was a changed islander he addressed.

Tommy frowns a bit as Pyroth speaks. One the one hand, his hatred for this place grows exponentially with every changed islander he meets, but on the other hand, the small part of his mind which knows that he will never leave this island is rejoicing. It seems that even those who have changed that much can still speak.

Tommy tries to put on his friendly grin, but the most he does is just show off his razor-like front teeth.
"Pyroth...huh...name's Tommy, Tommy Christian," the cadet says slowly, still getting used to his new mouth structure. His lifts his right hand, to shake, but pauses before he gets halfway. He stares at his freakishly large hand for a moment. It seems shaking hands is a thing of the past, for both of them.
