Michael shrugged. "I'm not sure. Lovers? ... No, 'lovers' doesn't seem right. We are what we are. We don't need a word. So shall we just agree to spend time together? To seek each other out and enjoy each other's company?"
He gained a conspiratorial tone then and leaned in with a grin. "May we still kiss? Or shall we reverse a while, and work back up to that level?"

Lovers?! No, not lovers. There wasn’t a word for them? Lissie frowned slightly at that. Didn’t they need a label? Maybe not. At the agreement posed, she smiled again. It under-described their relationship, but that was fine.
“I would like to still kiss,” she said. It was improper! ...But it didn’t matter, somehow. Michael was special.

Michael's expression became a simple, sweet smile and he turned to put Lissie in his arms. He leaned down to kiss her softly and felt a stirring he hadn't felt in more than a hundred years. He'd have never expected Lissie to turn back from the white light for him; there had been no reason to. It made no sense. Still, he was glad she had.
When the kiss broke, he smiled to her a moment and then rested his cheek and nose on her hair and inhaled her scent. It was a human scent, warm even if her skin was not. With the stirring came a swelling in his chest. God, no, he wouldn't cry again, but it felt good to be moved so far.

Lissie returned the kiss and smiled at him. “I love you,” she said. Nothing compared to this feeling. She’d never experienced this.”I never thought I’d feel alive again,” she admitted. Having him...It was so much better than when she’d been alive. How did she express that in words?
“I never thought I’d have this.”

Michael stroked Lissie's hair and smiled. It meant so much to hear those words. From friends, it was different, but Lissie was no friend. Sure, he knew how these feelings worked, how the desire and excitement started hard and then began to peter out, perhaps entirely, perhaps to fondness, but this felt somehow different. Perhaps it was because he was dead. Maybe he had been dead too long to feel emotions the same way.
"Nor did I." That was a little bit of a lie. He had hoped for this. He had looked forward to love and marriage in life, but that had been taken from him. In death, no, he had never imagined that he would be able to fall in love.
"So. What would you like to do tonight?" he asked, pulling back with a smile. "This is your first time in a hotel like this, is it not?"

What did she want to do? She'd figured on popping open a book and pouring over any current knowledge she could find--but maybe that wasn't what Michael wanted to do?
"We could talk," she offered, and smiled at him. "This place is so nice. I never imagined hotels to be like this." They had their own indoor plumbing, even, assumedly in every room! "What do you want to do?" Could they swim? Was there a pool?

"We could explore the building, though not the other rooms," Michael said. At least, they couldn't do it morally. Physically it would be easy to pop in and out however they pleased. "There's a gym and a pool and a lounge. We could explore the neighborhood as well, if you wanted, or, yes, we could sit and talk. Perhaps conjure a book or two. Watch television. Whatever you like, my darling." He had been in hotels before and lived with modern appliances for years, so he was more concerned with that she wanted to do.

Explore the building? The neighborhood? Those were things Lissie had never imagined. "We could do that," she agreed, "Where would we go?" They could conjure anything they wanted, once they knew it; maybe to a store? "We could go to one of those supermarkets you told me about," she said.

"If you would like to, sure. We'll need to find one, though." He conjured the same smartphone he'd shown her before, the same model that Toby had, and began to search on what he knew would be someone nearby's signal. "There is a superstore. They have food as well as clothing and electronics. They do have less food, though, if that is what is important to you. There are supermarkets as well."
All of a sudden he didn't want to go. He wanted to stay right here and spend time alone with Lissie but, no, he couldn't be selfish. Lissie had a whole world to see.

"Could we go to the superstore?" Lissie asked. "I would like to see electronics and things." She'd seen the cameras the team had brought, and Michael's phone... And surely they'd have books? She took his hand, and beamed at him.
"Then, we can come back and maybe--" she hesitated. It was awkward. Scandalous, even. "Maybe sit together?" Less awkward.

Michael nodded and pulled up the address and the directions, then deconjured the phone. He really should ask for a real one now. It would be novel to actually have one, but it would cost the HQ money. A conjured one was certainly costing someone money, wasn't it? Or was it all an illusion?
"We will have to walk," he said, "but it isn't far. We could teleport, in theory, but I've never been to this place to know precisely where we would end up." He checked his wallet, knowing he wanted to buy something at least for Lissie, and smiled.
"Certainly. I would like that. Come." He went to the door and opened it for Lissie, bowed as she exited, and then, as they left to the hall, took her hand.

"I don't mind walking," Lissie said, and gave him a smile. As long as she was with him, it didn't matter. She swayed their hands gently and followed him to the door. She stepped out, and smiled at him again.
"You're sweet, Michael," she said. "You'll show me things?"

"Of course. I enjoy sharing things with you," Michael said. They had only shared a few things as of yet, but it had definitely been enjoyable. Plus he had seen enough of new entities to see that the agents enjoyed showing them around, Toby especially.
The walk was pleasant, if a bit dim. They were not so deep in the city that there were crowds to shoulder through, nothing like London, but cars did pass and people rode bikes and pedestrians smiled as they crossed paths. Michael walked with confidence, not because he knew what he was doing but because he knew not much could go wrong. Besides, Lissie probably needed someone confident beside her.
They arrived at the store with its lights still on and shining, people bustling inside. A large red target stood above the doorway and several large cement balls decorated the entry. Upon entering the store, the were greeted by an array of purses, wallets, bags, and further off jewelry. To the right was the clothing, and to the left the toiletries, pharmacy, and food. Everything else existed between.
"Well? Where would you like to start?" He smiled over to Lissie, who he imagined might be slightly overwhelmed.

Lissie went silent as they entered the store, eyes wide. She looked around, before moving closer to Michael. "I don't know," she said, taking another glance.
"...Where does one start in such a place?" she asked, baffled. How did one start? There were so many things to look at and touch? "Maybe clothes?" she suggested. "I don't know anything about modern clothes."

Michael nodded, making a plan in his head and he looked over the store. They had these in his home city. He knew them well.
"Would you like to try some on?" he asked, and then said: "We can begin with the clothes, move to the accessories, then move through the food, to the electronics, the toys, and the furniture. There'll be a lot of things to add to your catalog." They would be here for hours. It would be wonderful.
"Now, they do close at eleven, but I'm certain we can be done by then. Come." He took Lissie's hand and began toward the clothing section.
