"I imagined, what with--elves and faeries and aliens..." Lissie smiled at him. She was teasing. "I'll try to prepare myself. What other entities are at your headquarters?" She asked. She didn't want to offend anyone by being startled.
"I'm nervous about leaving Wales," she admitted. All that excitement and wonder at new places was still there, but stifled. "Was it hard to adjust?"

"I was not exactly in my right mind when I came back from England," Michael admitted, "From what I can tell, America is fairly easy to acclimate to. It's no different than any other place with so many years gone by, and the culture is similar to many European countries of today."
Toby went to speak with the captain. Dari came to sit by the ghosts, but not so close that they'd feel the need to include him in the conversation.
"As for the entities, there are too many to name," Michael said. "There are files we can share, but even those can't list them all. You will meet many that you will not recognize as entities, and some may be startling to see. There are just as many humans, however."

Oh.
Lissie nodded in understanding. She noticed Dari then, and offered him a smile. "I'll try not to be startled," she said. She didn't want to offend anyone. "I'm looking forward to meeting them," she added. "Dari, what are you looking forward to, when we get home?"

Dari smiled back, but didn't comment. An attempt to not be startled was all he could ask for. Some resolve afterward, that was good enough. He wasn't sure if she should maybe see him before they landed, just to avoid any issues later in public.
"It's alright to be shocked at first," Michael said, and Dari wondered if he couldn't be feeding from the emotions in the air. "Trying to not be and apologizing if you are is enough. It gets much easier as time goes on, and anyway, your senses will continue to sharpen."
Dari perked when he heard his name. Toby came back into the plane, pulling the door up behind him as the stairs wheeled away.
"I want to see my fiancee," Dari said, "Maybe it's lame, but even a few days can seem like a long time. I haven't been on many long missions since we've been together."

Lissie gave Michael a smile. He understood things so well, and made things so much easier. She nodded. And it'd get better. Good. "You'll have to introduce me to your friends," she said.
"What's your fiancée like, Dari? Tell me about her?"

Michael nodded. He didn't have too many people who he thought would consider him a friend, but many were coming around since his whitelighting.
Dari smiled and turned to Michael. Michael just shrugged and gave a little raise of his brows. She was going to have to hear about it some time, wasn't she?
"Actually, he's a man," Dari said, turning back to Lissie with the same smile, "He's a little bit nerdy. He likes aliens, luckily. He has the best hair. Like Michael's, but black." He nodded to the ghost's blonde curls. Cody's weren't so tight, but they were enough that even Lissie could probably recognize him now.
Michael was poised, waiting for Lissie's reaction. She might be coming home with him, but the both of them had secrets, and his could be relationship-ending even for a spirit.

Lissie took a moment to process that bit of information. Oh. Well. ...Michael had said it was a different world, she simply hadn't expected it to have changed so much. "Oh," she said, and gave Dari a smile. "It's lucky you met someone who likes aliens. Is he human or--?"
She looked to Michael. Was she being rude, she wondered. Did one discuss their species openly?

Well! That had gone over well. Michael grinned and nodded that Lissie was doing just fine.
"He is," Dari said, but he could feel Toby look to him at the instant he remembered the truth, "Actually! He's not any more. He was when we met, but he had Toby sire him not too long ago. He's a werewolf."
"We can pass for human easier than most people," Toby said with a smile, "Well, maybe not as much as you, unless the ring falls off."

Oh, a werewolf. That was--Toby had sired him? What did that mean? Lissie looked to Toby then, frowning slightly. "You're a werewolf?" She asked. She didn't sound frightened, just surprised. "Huh." He acted like an ordinary human, though.
"Are you looking forward to getting home to your wife?" She asked.

Toby nodded. Her reaction had been calmer than Cody's had, from what Dari said. Go figure. Michael had picked a good one, it seemed, or else a good one had picked him. "If you're living at HQ, you'll see a lot of werewolves on the full moon. We're kind of a hub for everyone to stay safe." He sighed then and grinned. "Yeah, I can't wait. I miss them."
"Cody was losing his mind a little," Dari said.
Toby laughed. "I know."
A voice came over the intercom: "Alright, everyone, please buckle up and we'll get on our way."
Toby and Dari began to buckle, and Michael looked down at the belt. He had buckled for a little while on the way over, but the sensation hadn't been pleasant, only interesting. It wasn't as if he had anything to lose if they crashed. He decided to not.
"The flight is about fifteen hours," Toby said to Lissie, "We'll have stops so we don't go stir crazy, but it is pretty long." He paused and looked around the cabin. He raised an accusing finger to them all. "Nobody draw on my face while I sleep."
Michael smiled and help up his hands innocently.

"Was Cody babysitting?" Lissie asked. Maybe he wasn't experienced with children. She hesitated at the captain's voice. Buckle up? What? Was it for safety or--well, Michael hadn't. It was probably safety then. "I'd like to meet your baby, Toby."
She offered Michael a conjured sharpie while Toby was looking, and grinned. "I think he'd look good with a mustache," she said.

"Him and Luca, yeah," Toby said, "The elf? His husband." When one babysitter was a teacher, you might need two to cover the entire day. They were lucky to have such good friends. The entity community surrounding the HQ was very close. "Sure, you can meet him. He doesn't come into HQ a lot, but I'm sure we can figure something out."
Michael took the Sharpie and clucked his tongue. "I was a student of medicine, not art," he said. "Dari, this is more your expertise."
Dari took the Sharpie and grinned to Toby, who glared back.
The engines began to roar, and the plane taxied up the runway.

Oh! Was marrying the same sex alright now, to have two couples in the same group of friends? "Is Luca a faerie too?" She asked. "You'll bring the baby to visit?"
She smiled at Dari and Michael. Toby didn't seem too worried. It was fun to tease him, still.
She conjured a bag of marshmallows and sent it floating to Dari. The engines roaring to life startled her, and she sat back on the seat.

"Luca's a forest elf," Toby said, "and I could definitely bring the baby to visit. He was brought in through HQ so everyone always asks about him. It can just be hard to juggle work and watching the baby sometimes."
Dari took the bag and grinned. "How did you--?! Of course you did." He was suspicious at the back of his mind, but he chose to trust Lissie in this moment and plucked a marshmallow out to pop in his mouth. "Thank you."
Michael took Lissie's hand as she startled. The plane reached the end of the runway, the engines roared ever louder, and all of a sudden they were climbing into the air. "Here we go!" Michael chimed, "Do you want to watch? It's surreal."

A faerie elf and a forest elf. She blinked a bit and then smiled. "Thank you," she said, smiling at Toby. "I'm really looking forward to meeting him."
She gave Dari a smile. "I know things now that I wouldn't have," she said. "Did I get the flavor right?"
Lissie gave Michael's hand a nervous squeeze. She leaned forward to look through the window. She immediately leaned back, her eyes closed. "No thanks."
