Isiah shook his head back and forth. "I'm not gonna be your dad anymore, kid. I've seen what you do to people in that situation."
It was true. Isiah wasn't going to give Tsurai the chance to ******** him over again. It was too painful, and he had too much going for him to ******** himself up now. He shrugged complacently. "You're gonna have to grow up someday."

"Growing up doesn't just.. Happen. I don't know anything about being grown up. I don't even know how old I am!" Tsurai held his head with his hand. "I don't want to be alone," he pleaded. "When I was after Alex died.. It was horrible. I spent a long time there, trying to live by myself. I don't want to stay so sad.."

"You made your bed, kid," Isiah stated, simply. He put the beer bottle cap into his mouth and popped it open with his teeth. "Now you gotta sleep in it."

Tsurai put his hand over his eyes. "I don't want to die without knowing how to read," he pleaded. He felt like he was going to cry. "Everyone takes it for granted. All I really want to do is sit down and read something. Everybody talks about these people who wrote things, and I'll never get to see any of that."
He wiped his face and turned around. "I'm sorry I bothered you. I'll try not to do it again.."

Isiah grunted. "I'll teach you how to read, kid, if you promise to do your best to prove Connor that you're not a two faced, bloodthirsty psycho, okay?" He sneered. Tsurai was acting like a woman. A pre menstrual woman.

Tsurai turned around and hugged Isiah faster than lightning could strike down of God's will. "You don't know how much this means to me. Thank you. I don't even fight anymore, but I think it's useless trying to explain it to that guy."

He grunted at being hugged, holding the beer up so it wouldn''t spill. "He worked with your family before, that''s why. Or he says he did. I dunno." He hugged Tsurai weakly with his other, beer-free hand. "Okay, okay, that''s enough."

Tsurai let go and took a step back, wiping his face again. "I've never met him before." After a pause, he stated, "When can we start? Can I come in?"

Isiah nodded slowly before knocking back a swig of lukewarm beer, releasing a sigh that was frighteningly similar to an orgasm. "Jesus aytch christ and all of the saints, ******** beer.."

Tsurai smiled and and went into Isiah's house, sitting crosslegged on the cot. "Does that mean you like it?" He was referring to the beer.

Isiah nodded eagerly before knocking back the rest of the bottle, enjoying the warm, oh-so-familiar feeling of one beer down. He wished he had another five to go through. He sat down on the ground in front of Tsurai, drawing the alphabet into the ground with his bottle cap. He stopped halfway through, realizing that Tsurai wouldn't be able to read it that way, wiped his hand over the dirt to 'erase' it before re-writing the alphabet, painstakingly, upsidedown.

Tsurai looked over the bedside. "What are you writing?"
Connor had taken a long walk, or not so long, considering, and doubled back toward Isiah's house. He didn't see Tsurai outside, so assumed he'd left, and stepped inside to see Isiah on the ground writing the alphabet and Tsurai looking down at it. "What are you doing?" He asked, genuinely confused.

He grunted. "Teaching him the periodic table of elements." He looked up toward Tsurai. "I thought you knew the alphabet?.. Anyway, I think the best place to start is with what each letter sounds like on it's own, and then we'll start putting vowels together as they are commonly in words, and after you can read everything, I'll teach you how to understand it. Okay? Simple enough?"

"I know the alphabet, doesn't mean I can read the alphabet." Tsurai sighed.
"You can't read?" Connor balked. "How old are you?"

Isiah groaned. "Connor, show the minimum of sensitivity, please." He frowned a little. "Do you know their names? The names of these letters, I mean." He pointed at several down the line, starting with 'a'.
