Charade stared at Eadoin in shock.

"Jake's time? His time is coming?!"

Charade ran over to Jake and started doing everything she new that could save his life.

"He's not dieing. Not as long as I'm alive." She went right up in Jake's face. "You hear that? You are not dieing, whether you like it or not."

Then Charade gasped. She couldn't feel any breath on her face. She put her finger under his nose. Nothing. She slowly crumbled to the floor.

"He's... he's gone."

Christopher looking over Jakes dead body. "Jake...What did you have to say?" Christopher then took his jacket off and laid it over Jake.

"Jake...." Lily whispered, oblivious of everything around her. "Jake..." She backed up into a wall, and sank down to the floor. No tears rolled down her cheeks this time. Her eyes were still dry from the other events of the day. First Themba... then the realization that Rugen, Jade and Trent had died... and now Jake. Her mind went blank to everything but the memories they had shared.

Je suis a toi
Ilandere heard the slaps of wet footsteps behind her and a faint shout through the rain. She turned to see Artemis coming after her and Devon not too far behind. Pointing a warning finger at Artemis she scowled.

“Forget it!” She shouted to him, “Not a word!”

Ilandere turned back around and kept walking, her light-blonde hair dripping with water, green eyes darting about the barren – rain slick streets cautiously.

"Why not?" roared Artemis, "Afraid that you might agree to what you hear? That you don't want to lose your hope? You are a freaking Rokador!" He noticed that Ilandere was looking around. He groaned and turned to face Devon, who was quickly coming up.
PostPosted: Mon Feb 05, 2007 5:12 pm

“Yes!” Ilandere shouted over the roar of the heavy rain, “I am a Rokador but this does not make me some heartless, soulless warrior! It is not a matter of hope, it is not a matter of faith, it is not a matter of whatever delusions you accuse me of – it is a matter of truth. Yes, the truth is Jake will die, or has already died, but the truth also is that Saint Dane is trying to tear us apart by making us enemies just like now. Just like this! He wants to see all the travelers duke it out after they have been so ridden with pain, so ridden with anguish to the point where it doesn’t matter who they kill and what the consequences are! You could kill me now and Saint Dane would be more than happy. In fact, he might just congratulate you in person. You’ve already done damage and now I suppose it wouldn’t matter how much more you cause.
If you are going to just tell someone that their loved one is going to die in their arms, you might as well put a knife to their throat and slit it yourself just to get it over with. If someone is going to die, you never just say, ‘so they’re dead now, do something with the body.’ Life is cruel but damning someone in their last moments is unforgivable!
I may be a Rokador, I may be an Elite Tiggen Guard, but I’m still human. They do not only teach us how to strike to kill but how to deal with it afterwards. Why? Because we are human and humans aren’t meant to face things like we have today.”

Ilandere stood facing Artemis, hands clenched in anger. She was doing all she could to prevent herself from beating him into submission and going home. She did not normally have such an irate manner, but this was under circumstances.

“When you plan on dying, go ahead and call me so I can lean over you and say ‘you’re a deadman. Hope you enjoyed your damn life.’” She finished, not even realizing what she had said because of her anger.

"Then I may not be human. Are you going to damn me now? Tell me to spend life in hell whilst others are happy and gay? Go ahead. Damn me. I've damned others longer than you have been alive."
Artemis just then laughed. He laughed not at her long-winded speech, but her comment at the end.
"Go ahead. Beat me into submission. But I'll have you know that I will never submit to your ideas. I rather tell the truth than be blinded. Now, let's see. Hmm... Ilandere I'm calling you on my death bed. About six effing years ago! And just so you know, I have already been damned when I died. Yes! I have died before! What does that mean?"

Confusion flashed across Ilandere’s face for a split second, then left as quickly as it had come. What was this? Was he mocking her?

“Impossible!” she shouted at him, “To die and live again! That’s only happened when . . .”

Becoming silent suddenly, a memory of an occurrence that happened long ago flashed through her mind.

Devon, hearing everything that Artemis and Ilandere were screaming about, stopped dead in his tracks. He cocked his head in amazement when Artemis, screaming at the top of his lungs, said he died and lived again.
He shouted, "That's it!" He grabbed Artemis and dragged him away, speaking quickly, "You could tell Lily and the others how to bring back Jake. That way you can....redeem yourself."

Lily could hear Jake calling her. "lily, you need to get up," he told her, as he walked over to her with his hand out. "They need you. I'll be fine."

"Jake? what do you mean? Jake, where are you going?" He had turned his back to her and was walking away. "Jake, don't leave me!"

He looked over his shoulder. "This is the way it's meant to be, Lily. They need you." He continued down his path.

"Jake!" Lily cried out as she opened her eyes. Christopher was standing in front of her. After a moment of confusion, everything came back to her.

Ilandere shook her head to get rid of the memories and looked up to Artemis and Devon. She opened her mouth to holler something more, then thought better of it and turned away.

Just leave them . . . she thought, it doesn’t matter anymore. Just leave. I’m going home.

((Soooper long, but ooober good! Here's a nice twist!))

Ilandere continued walking, leaving Artemis and Devon behind. She somewhat recognized things from the trip to Lily’s from the flume. If only she could find it, she’d be able to get home. Then she remembered her ring. Looking down at it, the stone in the center was the dull grey it usually was. As she followed the path they took earlier the ring began to glow.

She followed it, making sure as she went the ring brightened. Ilandere came upon the subway, just as abandoned as it had been before. She stepped out of the rain and into the dark station, using the growing light from her ring to guide her. Jumping down to where the tracks were, she stayed close to the wall.

Hearing a growl behind her she froze. Glancing over her shoulder she saw a black beast (because she doesn’t know what dogs are) with glowing yellow eyes behind her. Quigs. Ilandere stayed still and could see the door just around the corner. It was so close, yet so far away. Breaking out into a full on sprint, she went for the door. The quig followed, barking ravenously. Ripping open the door, Ilandere threw herself into the tunnel and slammed the door shut behind her. She leaned against it with all her weight and heard a great crash come from the other side as the quig ran into it.

Ilandere leaned against the door for what seamed like an eternity to make sure the quig had left and stepped into the flume. There she saw everyone’s old clothing and her own blood stained tunic. She winced and looked away, knowing whose blood it was. What if when she got back to Zadaa the body wasn’t there anymore?

Stepping farther into the tunnel she shouted, “ZADAA!” and the flume sprang to life, sweeping her up in a mess of music and lights.

The ride seemed to have ended just as quickly as it had started, and her feet we placed onto the soft Zadaan sand. Once again, as had happened before, her wounds were strangely healed and her fatigue was gone. Ilandere closed her eyes and waited for them to adjust. As she opened them again, she saw what she feared she would have. Themba’s body was still there.

Walking to it numbly, tear fell from her cheek to the floor beside the body, she following it – falling to her knees. The blood pooling beneath Themba’s body was still wet, as if no time had past when she went to Third Earth. Ilandere took Themba’s limp form and cradled him in her arms, sobbing quietly. He was cold beneath her touch, motionless in the clutches of death.

“I knew you’d be back.” A cold voice chuckled.

Ilandere jumped up and took her crossbow that was sitting nearby. She pointed it to a tall figure in the corner. Saint Dane stepped out of the shadows, a malicious smile across his lips.

“Today,” he mused mockingly, “Has been quite eventful, don’t you think? Two acolytes dead, one of them – Jake – I didn’t even have to kill. That one, I have to say, was quiet disappointing for me because I wanted the honors.”

Ilandere remained quiet, keeping the crossbow trained on the demon before her.

“Go on,” Saint Dane taunted, “Shoot. You know you want to. Though I have to say, your efforts are quite futile, you remember what happened last time.”

“Go . . . away . . .” Ilandere hissed through clenched teeth. Saint Dane laughed and shook his head.

“Oh, my dear Ilandere. What had become of you? Look at you, you’re a mess. Is this what your fellow travelers, your friends, have put you through? You poor child – and to think all this could have been avoided. You could have saved your friend; saved yourself the tears and the hurt. As it had before when you rejected me and put yourself through this, my offer still stands.”

“I would never join you!” Ilandere shouted.

“And why not?” Saint Dane countered, “So you can see more people, more loved ones, die? These . . . travelers . . . are not the people you need to be with. It seems to me that they’ve caused more aches for you than I have. You see, I understand you; they don’t. You were a true born leader – brilliant and strong – but they don’t follow.”

Ilandere didn’t know what it was – the stress, the emotional turmoil, hunger or lack of sleep – but the demon was making sense. She forced herself to stay calm; letting anger, sadness, or any other emotion make the decision was dangerous and never ended well. You had to think with the head not with the heart.

Saint Dane smiled at her and continued, “You see it don’t you? If you had just trusted me in the first place, things would have been better off. If Izzy hadn’t gone and pulled you away from me that first day, you would have been fine. All that you have gotten from those travelers so far had been trouble.”

Ilandere took a step back from Saint Dane, the tip of her crossbow lowering slightly. She kept her eyes on his, trying not to look away from his icy blue ones. Suddenly they changed from their normally cold nature to warm hazel. He was shorter but still a little taller than her and his hair was a graying brown.

Taking another startled step backwards, she realized who it was. JinRah was standing before her. She shook her head, knowing the disguise was just there to help sway her thinking. She was sorry to admit to herself that it was working.

“We can do great things, you and I.” JinRah said, “Just help me and we can make every territory a better place. You can finally be with someone who understands you. You won’t have to face death. And there might just be something in it for Themba.”

That last one hit home. Ilandere closed her eyes and lowered her head. JinRah’s warm eyes never left her, smiling deeply. Slowly she looked back up, her eyes glazed over as if entranced.

“What do you need me to do?”
