Odin didn't turn around because the man behind them didn't seem to be malevolent. Odin watched as the egg cracked a little.

Kagetora resisted the urge to poke the egg as he watched it hatch, ignoring the vibrations the earth gave off and the wind's whispers, since he was far more interested in his new companion

A minute later the egg broke apart and fire surrounded the baby dragon. "Now give it a name."

At the sound of his name the fire dissipated revealing a baby dragon. Odin hands Kagetora a pendant. "This is a symbol of the bond between you and dragons. Everyone has their own symbol. This will also help when you are training your dragon...Kurogane." Odin explains.
