The landscape of Kanto was a complete 180 from what Alola was and Pewter City was no exception. Deciding to touch down in the first major city, Sullivan found himself just a tad bit overwhelmed by the change in scenery. It was basically… rock. Mountains and rocks. And there wasn’t even much to the rocks, at least not from the city perspective as far as he could tell. It was… semi-barren and not at all like the lush or even the snow capped mountains that riddled Alola’s mountain regions.
Junpei gave a little bark and hopped down to start sniffing and make himself acquainted with the change of scenery; at least he seemed a little more at home than his trainer. Sullivan returned Inoke as well to let him rest and took a moment to take in his surroundings. He wasn’t really sure where or how to start. He pulled out his notebook for mapping and scribbled a little bit on the surroundings as he saw them. There was the pokemon center, right where he was and which would serve as his starting point, the gym and then the fences that marked the perimeters. At least he could accomplish one thing before he started moving about and he would do just that.

The annoying punk chick suddenly left and Alejandro was left alone with a guy that wasn't at all comfortable being around him. He didn't really think there was much reason in giving the guy a heart attack by sticking around, but he also didn't want to be rude and just walk off either. So, instead he decided to write down his holo number and left it with him. If he ever did want to talk on his own terms, Alejandro would be down for that. It'd be great to make some new friends. Especially with people that could tolerate him. Because that was really the only way he was going to make friends.
As he walked away from the other, Mufasa decided it was tired of moving around on its own and jumped up into his arms. Alejandro laughed a bit, not minding at all, and made his way towards the Pokemon Center. Not for any particular reason, though; Alejandro just wanted to contemplate his next move and figure out where the next gym was. Walking towards the red-roofed building, he noticed another blue-haired guy. It was enough to catch his attention, but not enough to warrant any interaction. That didn't seem to be Victoria's opinion. She seemed far more curious about him and waddled right up to him to get a better look. Alejandro resisted the urge to facepalm. He couldn't really blame her; it wasn't like she was seeing people with blue hair everywhere like him.
"Victoria, you can't just walk up to people like that....Come on. Get over here."He watched as the Brionne returned to him, not looking remorseful or anything, and started to make bubbles to play with Aqua. What a little....Alejandro let it go as he looked at the guy she'd potentially just disturbed. He could've left it there, but the last thing they needed was to make another enemy."She didn't bother you, did she?"

Sullivan was so engrossed in his makeshift mapping that he wasn’t aware of his surroundings, nor the pokemon that had waddled up to observe. Junpei hadn’t though, and dropped down towards the ground, observing the other pokemon, tail wagging slowly before hopping back to his paws and giving a slightly alerting bark and nudging his trainer with his.
The blue-haired man blinked, glancing first from the rock puppy and then to the greeting pokemon, jumping in surprise at the sight. A … Brionne? He recognized it immediately; an evolution to one of the Alolan starters after all. But out here in Kanto? That was a little… odd. Maybe he wasn’t the only one just out and off the islands? His gaze followed the pokemon as she returned to her trainer, looking even more surprised. Someone else with blue hair? Boy, the world suddenly felt small.
Sullivan’s first instinct was to sign, and he did just that with hello there before stopping himself midway. Right, right. That wasn’t something he could just jump into; he stared blankly for a brief moment, squinting and trying to recall the lip movements and the question formed. Finally he shook his head ’no’ in response before pausing again and flipping to a spare page in the back of his notebook. Quickly he scribbled a message before flipping it around to show Alejandro.
’No, it’s fine! It read and after holding it in place long enough for reading, he flipped it back around and scribbled another message to show the other man. Sorry, that’s a a Brionne right? Are you from Alola?'

The first thing the guy did was sign to him and Alejandro sort of deflated. He didn't know sign language. Well, not a ton of it. He could recognize the other's greeting along with yes and no, but that was about it. And, he couldn't tell if they were using it because they were deaf or mute. He watched as the blunet started writing in his notebook before showing him what he was saying. So....Mute then? Though, he did seem to struggle to figure out what Alejandro had said. Deaf seemed more likely if that was the case.Great. This is going to be hard.He went to answer him, but stopped. Was it safe to assume he would be able to read his lips? He did it before. Alejandro could just not deal with it and leave, but he really had a difficult time being rude to people that had problems like this; he was an a*****e, but even he had his limits."Ah....No, I'm not. Sullivan didn’t miss the shift in the air as Alejandro deflated from him signing first. Yeah… that was about a standard response. He’d hoped immediately jumping to written word would be the best option and judging by the fact that Alejandro spoke again to answer his question, he couldn’t help but smile a bit. Hey, he’d give the guy props for trying honestly.
Sullivan tilted his head a bit to the side as Alejandro explained, eyes focused for reading (which he hoped wasn’t too off putting, because for some it could be) before giving a nod. Ah, that made sense, though that left another question. Once he was certain the other bluenette was done speaking he scribbled out his next question. 'Oh, okay.' He frowned a bit, scribbling out another message. 'Did you change your mind then?' After all, Brionne was… well it wasn’t a Litten. It was just curious and assuming the conversation didn’t downhill with the communication barrier, he was honestly curious to learn about the other man. It was a change from the islands and all after all. He did pause a moment though, before scribbling one last little note for Alejandro. 'I hope the notes aren’t a problem?'

Did he change his mind? Alejandro looked down at Victoria for a second or two before shaking his head, looking back at the other."No. I have Litten. Victoria was a gift. Sullivan blinked, head tilting to the side a bit as Alejandro answered his inquiry. Oh, well that… certainly made since, though he still couldn’t quite hide is surprise. A gift? Of a starter? They were already hard to come by, so someone must have had some good connections to lead up to that. He eventually nodded in understanding on the situation before scribbling a note again. He was happy at least the notes were working; not everyone enjoyed having to read and respond. A hard time but well, nothing that could be done about it.
'That’s great! I appreciate that. It’s nice to meet you Alejandro. My name’s Sullivan,' the blue-haired man gave a friendly grin as follow up, taking a brief moment to look away from the other man to his pokemon, catching out the corner his eye movement in enough time to see they were attempting to greet him. He gave them a wave of acknowledgement as well. Junpei was vigilantly watching right at Sullivan’s heels, watching the two pokemon curiously as they attempted to greet his trainer, looking as though he might’ve wanted to respond to the act.
Returning his attention to Alejandro, Sullivan seemed to consider the next course of conversation. Maybe the guy had an idea or two about Kanto and where he could go? That might be worth asking about. 'So, are you journeying through Kanto then? Or just kind of exploring? Any suggestions for someone new to Kanto?'

"No problem. Might not look it, but I actually like reading."Alejandro looked down at Sullivan's Rocruff as it watched Aqua and Mufasa. While Aqua became nervous at the pup's staring, opting to hide behind her trainer's legs to avoid it, Mufasa was more curious and bold. The little Cosmog waved one of its appendages in greeting to the Rockruff; Victoria didn't seem all that interested in Sullivan anymore and was more focused on making the Vaporeon comfortable.
He looked back up at Sullivan when he started to write again. Alejandro wasn't really sure how to answer any of that."Journeying, I guess? Got into some trouble with the police back in Alola and came here until the steam blew over enough to go back."What? He wasn't ashamed of it. He'd tell the whole story without even missing a beat if he had or wanted to."Anyway, I don't know much about Kanto. I'm kind of new here, too."He was pretty sure one of his old foster families lived in Kanto somewhere, but for the life of him, he couldn't remember their names or what town they were in.""...I can tell you the gym here in Pewter is a Rock-type gym, but that's about it."
Sullivan grinned, concealing a bit of a chuckle at the remark; he enjoyed that someone was willing to humor him a little at least. Junpei didn’t miss the pair staring back, instead his head tilting a little as he studied them a little more. The Vaporeon seemed rather nervous and the Brionne had gone about attempting to comfort it. Only the little floating cloud thing seemed interested in him and, after determining that his ward was alright for now, he stood and approached it carefully, giving the puff a little sniff and then a little bark in greeting.
The blue haired man didn’t miss the movement of his pokemon, but his gaze squarely on Alejandro. He had faith the pup would cause any trouble for anyone. Of course, maybe it would’ve been better to miss the little description about trouble with the police. Sullivan tried not to let the immediate look of concern show, but well… yeah. It didn’t sound good. He hesitated a moment, frowning and flipping to a new page (the previous had become filled by this point) and writing out a new question.
'Oh? What kind of trouble?' It probably wasn’t smart to pry but well… damned if he didn’t and damned if he did right. While trying to remain casual, he considered the rest of the conversation. Oh, he was new too? Well that was a shame, though he supposed it was fair. Gyms were worth knowing about at least, if he opted to take them on. 'I see. Well that’s cool all the same. I wouldn’t mind knowing that. I like to keep track' He noted, looking around briefly. Looked like he would be figuring it out on his own. No worries though. 'Rock-type? That’s pretty fitting for a place like this. The gym leader a rock climber too?'

Alejandro's brow quirked at Sullivan's inquiry. He was actually surprised the other even asked. Most people would've either found an excuse to leave or not ask in case it dragged them into the trouble, too."Not the reaction I expected."Especially since he'd noticed that look in Sullivan's eyes. But, hey. He decided to see the question as a sign of good things to come."I assaulted another trainer and stole his Vaporeon."Alejandro would probably need to elaborate on that. He definitely sounded like a common thief."Before you jump to conclusions, it's not the way it sounds. He was abusing her, but of course the only thing Jenny saw was some punk causing trouble. I know what it looked like to her."Alejandro crossed his arms, looking away for a few seconds before looking back."I should've let the police handle it, but I know from experience that you can't always rely on others to do the right thing. She didn't seem too inclined to believe me when I told her what happened and I wasn't about to risk it, so I made off with Vaporeon. You can judge me badly if you want, but I don't feel I did anything wrong. I'd do it again if I had to."
Sullivan stifled a laugh. It really wasn’t was it? But then again maybe his brain had been a little jogged out of place from taking that punch. That or well… he was just that curious. It took a lot of balls to run from the cops after all. He listened as Alejandro explained; first looking rather disapproving at the comment that he’d up and stolen the Vaporeon, quickly glancing at Aqua in the process. Then he continued of course and the picture roughly came together.
Wow. That was a rather heavy situation. His expression went from harsh disapproval at the bluenette to a sort of thoughtful disappointment at it all, gaze shifting to look at Aqua. She did seem kind of jittery and pokemon abuse was no joke. He was quiet (which wasn’t saying much given he didn’t speak) before he pulled up his notebook once more and scribbled another message.
'Do you mind if I look her over?' Sullivan asked, looking genuinely serious about this request. Realization sprouted on his face though and he quickly added onto the message. 'I’m training to work in the medical profession for pokemon.' If there was truth to Alejandro’s story, then he was sure it’d show on the pokemon and he wanted to make sure she was alright if that really was the case. He wouldn’t be doing a good job with the learning if he ignored such a thing after all.

Yeah. That was the look he expected. At least Sullivan's glare softened as he processed the situation. It was nice to not be a total bad guy. He watched as Sullivan wrote another message, this time asking if he could look at Aqua. He quirked his brow again before the other clarified. The thought made him smirk; if Sullivan worked at a Pokemon Center, he'd be much more inclined to be a regular there. Even if it was just hanging out. Why were all the nurses women anyway?"...Sure. Give me a minute."Alejandro moved so he was standing behind Aqua this time, kneeling as the Vaporeon turned to look at him. She knew what was up and already looked like she was about to run off. Instead of giving her the chance, Alejandro rubbed one of her fins to relax her."You'll be okay, princess. If he tries anything, I'll knock him on his a** just like I did the other guy."She was still skeptical, but Aqua gave in pretty quickly at his promise to protect her. But, she wasn't about to walk up to Sullivan; instead, she opted to jump into Alejandro's arms and make him carry her over. Fair enough."Don't think she's going to let me put her down. That alright?"
Sullivan smiled as Alejandro agreed to let him look over Aqua. He went about setting his things down on the ground (couldn’t exactly keep on writing while he did his checking, now could he?), before facing the pair. He caught the inquiry regarding hold her for the exam and absently both gave a nod of his head and the sign for ‘yes’ as well; an unconscious act when his hands weren’t full.
Reaching down into his bag, Sullivan produced a small little pokemon treat as an offering to Aqua that he didn’t intend any harm and was it seemed safe proceeded his to gently check her over, not poking or prodding but just gentle brushing over places to get a general idea. There were definitely tell tale signs of injuries that hadn’t been properly treated when caused and fell well outside the scope of a pokemon who’d been battling.
After a couple of minutes of inspection and the sternest look a fellow could manage in the process, he stepped back. He gave Aqua a gentle smile before glancing up to Alejandro and nodding, giving a quick thumbs up. From what he could see… his story checked out. Sort of. Seeing as the Vaporeon wasn’t trying to weasel away from him and certainly didn't look scared to be in his grasp, so he felt it was safe to believe it was the acts of another. Alejandro kept an eye on Sullivan as he looked over Aqua. The guy knew what he was doing and he did it in a way that wasn't too invasive for her. As soon as jacque's tires hit some solid ground, Reina mounted and drove into Pewter City. Their first stop was of course the Pokemon Center. It was getting pretty late into the evening when they pulled up to the center, seeing the lobby hardly occupied by a single soul. Pulling Jacque around the corner the tired PI headed into the center and acquired a room for the night. First though, the team decided to get a bite to eat, leaving them in an sort of eatery area, a happy Chancey ready to take their order. It was basically Pokechow all around the table, save for Reina who opted for a Veggieburger and some fries. 'So, Reina. What're you thinkin'?' Anubis' voice filled her ears among the sounds of her chewing. Gazing over towards the canine she leaned forward, resting her chin in the palm of one of her hands. The fry she was holding in her hand was pretty much drowned in ketchup. "Better question is; What am I not thinking?" She replied, finally eating the fry. 'I gotta say, Reina. You seem to be outta sorts. This isn't our first smuggling ring. It certainly won't be the last. So why do you look like someone is going to die?' Reina turned her gaze to the canine. "I don't know. Just... Something seems off about all this. Pokemon smuggling is one thing, selling them to collectors makes sense. But contests? Just, comme, How much argent can you get in these contests?" Anubis' gaze narrowed. He was thinking over this thought. 'You mean like, fighting other Pokemon? Reina... we don't do that as often as most people might think.' Reina nodded. "Yea I know, but nows as good a time as any, Droite?" Dropping the fry she was currently holding, Reina reached across the table and ruffled Anubis' fur, much to his dismay. "First thing in the morning, we're going to start training. Why don't we fight the gym as well, while were at it?" 'Baby steps, Reina!' Anubis grumbled, pushing her hand away.
After another fifteen or so minutes of discussing what they were going to do, and who was going to be trained the most, as well as Reina going over what berries she had for future poffin making, the team finally headed to their room. Along the way, Anubis and Nefret noticed something laying in a box. The box had the word 'free' written on it, and it was filled with a large variety of goods. Snatching up a few of the items, the two of them returned to Reina. One of the items, a TM subsequently was used on Anubis, while a pure white scarf made for a nice contrast around Anubis' neck. Nefret of course found it adorable.
