Lissie smiled at him as she released him. She took a few steps back and sat on her bed. "How did you find out you were in love? Was it your friend? Michael said you were in denial a long time, why?" She asked. She laid down on her bed, chin in hands. She was ready for the story.

"I'm going to tell Michael in the morning. I can invite him to breakfast or something."

"Oh, I knew I was in love, I just didn't want to admit it," Toby said. "Dari just... made it hurt too much for me to ignore it." If Maia hadn't been gone entirely, he might have been content to see her now and again on a friendly level. To remove her entirely had nearly killed him. "I was afraid, though. I lost my first fiancee a long time ago. She died. I didn't think I'd ever be in love again, and I thought that I couldn't handle losing Maia too. I thought I'd lose her before I ever had her. Now we live together, though, and we're married, and we just adopted a little boy." He was encouraging her, but hopefully not blatantly so.

The werewolf nodded then. "Sure, do that. I'm sure he'll come."

He'd known he was in love? But how has he known? "I'm sorry to hear about your fiancée," she said. "I'm happy you've found Maia." The girl seemed nice enough. "Michael said you named your baby after him."

She was quiet for a while. "Do you think ghosts can have happy endings?" She asked.

"We did," Toby agreed with a smile, "Michael saved my life. I was shot, and he possessed me to keep my alive while Dari healed me." If she didn't know he was a werewolf by ghostly intuition, he wasn't about to tell her. Not every culture liked nocturnal creatures very much.

His smile only broadened at Elise's question. "Yeah, I think they can."

Shot?!

Toby was brave. Michael, too. "I apologize for making you so ill," she said. "Michael told me about you and asked me to stop, so I did. It wasn't you I was angry at, anyway." It was her past.

"It's getting late," she added. "Your wife won't like you being in a lady's room." The door swung open. "Goodnight Toby."

Toby waved a bit of a dismissive hand. "It's alright. I get it." He'd never felt it, but he did understand it. Michael had been the same sort of way. He addressed the issue of Maia then: "We trust each other. She knows she's my one-and-only." It was a lesson of love built into a casual phrase. Toby didn't think he was as good at it as Dari, but he'd learned a thing or two from the alien.

He did stand, though, and waved to Elise as he went. "Good night, and good luck!"

Morning came as usual, feeling like no time had passed at all. Lissie got up out of her bed and stretched out of habit--not need--before going to an empty closet. Hm.

Literally nothing to wear. They must have taken her clothes when they'd carted away the rest of her belongings. What did one wear when declaring love, anyway? What did one say? "I love you" was too direct, it was almost improper. Especially when Michael might not feel the same.

Oh well. She'd do the almost-improper thing and look for him. She conjured a dress, stepped into it, and headed downstairs. "Michael?"

Michael had been reading in a side room. He's considered just staying in the entryway with the others, but he thought that Lissie wouldn't mind if he took it upon himself to wander a little. He had conjured a Victorian sitting room himself, but it wasn't Lissie's nor his own or his master's. It was generic, because specificity hurt too much. Only the furniture had been changed, though, and the carpet and wallpaper spruced up. The architecture was perfect without his input.

"Here!" he called to Lissie, and he closed his book and came to the door frame to wait for her. The illusion of the room dropped away, and when he saw her approaching, he smiled. There was some pain in his heart, but hopefully it didn't carry to his look.

Lissie smiled when she spotted Michael and made her way to him. She reached to take his hand. "Join me for breakfast?" She asked. They couldn't eat--not really, and she couldn't taste anything--but maybe breakfast would be the best way to tell him?

"We could have breakfast out in the garden."
PostPosted: Fri Oct 13, 2017 11:41 am

"Certainly," Michael agreed. He seemed to be saying that a lot lately. Could a ghost who couldn't taste still conjure food that tasted real? He'd conjured things he had never tasted before, such as the McDonalds breakfasts Toby was out buying right now for himself and, unnecessarily, for Dari. He hadn't known what they'd taste like, and had been pleasantly surprised. He was whitelighted, though, and Lissie was far from that yet. Whatever the answer was, he'd be sure to pretend it was wonderful. "What are we having?"

Presumably she wanted the garden to be beautiful again, so as they walked between eyesight of a pair of windows, he made it beautiful for them to walk out into. "Where would you like to sit?"

"Whatever you'd like," Lissie gave him a smile. Something. Anything he wanted. She wanted him happy, like he made her.

She conjured a table and chairs when they got to the garden. There was a teapot, a plate full of tea cakes, bread that smelled like they'd just come out of the oven; and jars of jam. Pats of butter on plates, a jar of honey... Lissie looked up at Michael and smiled. "I didn't know what you'd like best." she said.

Michael smirked. What a European breakfast! It seemed that she had control of the setting today, but he didn't mind. He liked a woman who was unafraid.

"I like it all." He still pulled her chair out and waited for her to sit before he began pouring tea for them both. "Did you have a pleasant night?"

Lissie smiled. Oh, good. She'd been worried about impressing him. He seemed happy enough.

She took a piece of toast and got a spoon. "It was nice," she said. "Yours? I thought we could take a walk in the garden after breakfast."

Michael made Lissie's tea up the way he had seen her drink it the day before, even knowing that she wouldn't be able to taste it. Colors could be comforting too. For his own, he simply conjured the right mixture for the taste of it. It was a little darker than usual today for the pleasant bitter pang.

"It was pleasant enough." Actually, it had been pretty horrible for a while there until he'd been able to talk himself out of the agony. lying about your emotions was very Victorian, however. He only felt a little guilty. For all he knew, Lissie might be lying as well, though he hoped she wasn't. "I'd like that." He wasn't sure he would. It was going to hurt. Maybe being prepared for the pain would make the wound more bearable.

He got a knife and dipped into the jelly. He might have liked his bread toasted, but he wouldn't offend Lissie in altering her spread. He took a bite and smiled. "You did a good job." He hadn't been expecting it to taste like anything at all, if not totally horrible.

So...how did she bring this up? Toby had made it sound complicated--but even then, it sounded easier than what she was imagined. "I talked to your friend last night. He told me how love feels." She took a sip of tea to cover her embarrassment.
