221 years ago a document was signed by a group of men. Among them were lawyers, land owners and merchants. Some of those who signed lost their businesses and fortunes. Some lost their families. Others lost their lives.
They made a stand for their beliefs: that all men were created equel and that all have the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. They paid the price for their beliefs, and as their time passed others took up the call to defend those beliefs.
From Yorktown to Normandy. From Iwo Jima to Afganistan. Brave men and women put themselves in harm's way so that we can enjoy the freedoms that many around the world don't know and that we all to often take for granted.
God bless our troups, and God bless America.
Happy Independence Day.

I was born and raised in a military town. My grandfather lied about his age and went to war in the Pacific on the USS Hornet at the age of 16 during WWII. My father served in the Marines and later in the Air Force reserves. My brother was Air Force and now works for the Government. Hell, I spent yesterday at the Jamestown Settlement.
Growing up around here, you get a firm appreciation for your country.

I swear I miss everything. I've gathered the complete lowdown of this incident by talking to those who witnessed the whole thing.
I leave for work about eight in the morning. Maybe 20 minutes later a police officer makes a routine stop. A car missing it's licence plates, and said car pulls to a stop right in front of my house. The officer gets out and then the driver gets out of his car and starts shooting.
The officer is back peddling and manages to get off a couple of shot of his own. My neighbor who was just taking out his garbage gives out a hardy "HOLY s**t!" as a windshield gets blown out.
Now, our shooter is hardcore yo. We know this because apparently he didn't own a proper belt and his pants were hanging off him showing his boxers for all to see. Now he could have taken off running, and likely gotten away. The officer was really off balance and stumbling, but then...
... the moron lost his damn pants. Fell right on his a** in the middle of the street. He still shooting and trying to get his pants off, because he's all tangled up. The Officer is calling for back up. The guy gets his legs free and runs for it and gets shot in the back of the leg.
My neighbor went into his house to get his own 9mm. The shooter is now between the houses across the street from me using some bags for cover. The Officer is behind a van. My neighbor yells "I'M ARMED!"
The Officer responds, "IF HE COMES THAT WAY, DROP HIM!"
After a few more shots fired, it was over. They took him out of there on a stretcher, but I'm pretty sure he was taking a dirt nap by the time the ambulance got there.
Not a single bullet hit my house. Scared the hell out of my wife all the same. The street was blocked off for most of the day. The police used my dixie cups to temporarily mark the crime scene. Even used my clipboard. Didn't get it back. rolleyes
Summing it up:
One dead scumbag.
Officers OK.
No citizens hurt.
Minimal property damage.
Win.
