Tomoe_Gozen How do you help a child not be afraid of needles if your afraid of needles? That's a good question. I'd like to know that too. I'm absolutely terrified of needles. Neither of my boys seem to have problems yet though. I didn't start being scared of them though until I was almost out of high school.

Uni... I just had my two boy's tested for speech. The 6 year old they said go ahead and put in school and they will work with him there. The 4 year old they want to put in special education.
I know that he has a problem talking but, I think he can't hear that well. I had to have his ear's cleaned out by the doctor. They were full of wax and you couldn't see his eardrum. I have been trying to keep them clear. I can't get him back to the doctor till my husband get's back to work. Hopefully next month we will have health insurance again... sad
They act like something is wrong with him. But, he tested 93 percent for hands on task. He can play video games and build things that are out of this world. These doctor's think he is slow cause he doesn't know his ABC's and all numbers yet. So much more is expected of kid's these days then when I was a kid. I leared my ABC's in kindergarten. Now if they don't know them by 4 they are considered slow... What the hell?
He has so much knowledge... I just hate that he has a hard time speaking. I hope these classes that he will be starting soon will help.
I am soooo stressed...

I learned the alphabet in kindergarten as well. We're putting too much pressure on children lately. I hear they're talking about having children in kindergarten earlier. I have serious issues with that. Let them be kids for a while, please.

Well, as for the speech thing, I said to hell with keeping up to date with where he's supposed to be, so I was kinda surprised he was a little behind. Although boys do develop a little slower in speech, or so the nurse prac told me. I'm not worried about really, I try to read to him as much as I can, but we'll see. I do look at Albert Einstien's story as inspiration, thanks Uni!
As for the needles thing, I used to be scared. I'm not saying what I do is 100% effective, but I try. At home, Logan is good, he'll sit still to get his ears cleaned, his nails clipped. I try to make it fun and show him that I do it too. We let him play with one of tommy's old stethoscopes too. As for the needles thing, I pretend like I'm giving him a shot. I take like a pen and put a little pressure on his thigh. I mostly did it so he would sit still, but it could have been too that the Hep A shot isn't that bad.
He just woke up screaming, I think the shot is bothering him.

They saw him for 3... 45 min sessions. Give me a break. I know what his capabilities are. He is very smart. He is just hard to understand when he talks. You really have to listen to him. He get's frustrated when he has to repeat things sometimes. But, I have been working with him. Of course I want the best for him. I hope that the speach therapy the state is offering is going to help. But, They need to understand he is just a 4 year old little boy... I don't think they should push him too hard.

My aunt Jule had problems with her ear tunnel things and had to go to speech therapy because of it. She has tubes now though. I hear that helps a lot.

Hi monkey, just a headsup, the members aren't here all the time, we post when we can, so if we don't respond, it's because of that. Usually we chat about anything in here, we stick to the topics of the other threads, like we talk abotu the collodial silver one in there.
