Miyuki scratched her cheek thoughtfully as she considered Yasu who got into a running start position. Deciding she would probably have to throw the usual attacks out the window, she was going to have to improvise just a bit.

"Alright, they look ready to go," she nodded at her brother.

She didn't add that both Pokemon looked very eager, maybe this was why they were used for battles against each other, it seemed like they liked to test their skills like this.

Andarien nodded back. They were ready.

"Uncle Daeron, if you don't mind calling the start of the battle," Andarien requested, looking over at him.

Daeron was already sitting with Iorlas and Amir, but he looked up when Andarien called him, and nodded at his request.

"Set - go!" he called out.

"Yasu! Weave through his legs!" Miyuki called out.

She knew very well that tackling was out of the question, as well as any physical attacks, but most eevees only knew physical attacks. So she was going to trust that Yasu was agile enough to make things difficult for Ponydash.

Andarien had been studying all the information Shiro had on Ponytas, and he had worked enough with Ponydash to know that the Pokemon's speed was legendary.

"Stomp!" he commanded; and Ponydash obeyed immediately. It almost looked as though he were dancing, with all four hooves pounding up and down; but each hoof, harder than diamonds, hit the ground with enough force to badly damage anything beneath them.

Yasu quickly moved away from PonyDash's legs, weaving his body in and out of the legs, not wanting to be trampled by that. Though he was a bit at a lost of what to do, even he knew tackling PonyDash was going to be a painful thing to do.

Miyuki thought back about what she knew about Eevees. Most attacks she discarded immediately because they were physical attacks, there was no way he could use them without getting burned. It was then she remembered one in particular that she knew Yasu knew.

"Yasu, Swift!" she called out.

Yasu hadn't thought about that one before, and began to spit out rays of stars at Ponydash.

Andarien reacted quickly. "Protect!"

Ponydash braced itself to use the protective attack, but before he could, he was hit with the stars that came from Yasu, and the move failed. He flinched away, whinnying at the pain that they inflicted, and instinctively he brought his Flame Body ability into action: his entire body, from nose to tail, burst into bright flame.

"Flame charge!" Andarien ordered, encouraged by the appearance of the bright flames.

Obeying, Ponydash charged towards Yasu, his hooves hitting the ground so hard that flecks of rock were kicked up behind him.

"Move under him! Use Quick Attack!" Miyuki called out.

There was an incredible risk of being burned doing that, but Yasu's legs were too stubby to move out of the way in time. At least he wouldn't get trampled but she was worried about him being burned despite knowing that Pokemon were generally hardy creatures.

Yasu charged forward, adjusting his path to run right between Ponydash and under him in order to get out of the way. Though with the bright flame it was like charging through fire itself, and even Yasu felt it was better than being trampled by those hooves.

Using Quick Attack was simply to pick up speed, in hopes the less time he was there the less likely he would be burned. The little Eevee became a blur as it ran through the flames. Fire licked it and it could feel itself being burned.

Miyuki feared she made a bad choice as her eevee became a glowing bundle of fur, making it appear like he had caught on fire as he passed under Ponydash. Except, it wasn't so much as he was catching fire (though he was badly burned by this), instead he was evolving.

Andarien could only see the ball of fire that was Yasu and he was afraid that Ponydash might have badly injured the little Eevee - but he also knew that if he called an early end to the battle, both of the Pokemon would be insulted. Of course, he had no idea that Yasu was actually evolving - and if he had, it might have affected his next command.

"Fire spin!" he cried, only because he knew that they had items that could heal any burns that Yasu might incur in the battle.

His previous attack having heightened his speed, Ponydash whirled around and summoned up a swirling vortex of flames. It whirled around Yasu, blocking him from sight and trapping him in place.

"Yasu!" Miyuki's next orders died on her tongue as a sudden burst of scarlet red flames rushed out from the flaming vortex where Yasu had stood.

It added to the fire spin but also broke through spreading flames all around the battle ground. The air became hot and Miyuki could barely see through the flames it was hurting her eyes.

She could make out, what looked to be Yasu in the middle, but he looked bigger and fluffier. The fire was making it hard to make out, but she was sure he also wasn't the right colour anymore.

Andarien's eyes grew wide, and his heart started to pound. This wasn't good. Not that Yasu evolved - a Pokemon's evolution was always a good thing - but that he had evolved into a firey pokemon and it seemed that fire attacks would no longer do anything to it.

And aside from physical attacks, protect and rest, that was all that Ponydash knew.

"Fire charge!" he shouted. "But around him!"

Yasu had already proved to be rather nimble. Ponydash's only chance was to increase his speed enough to avoid being hit and to be able to get in some hits of his own.

Ponydash was already in motion. The ground trembled under his hooves as he pounded in Yasu's direction, though slightly to one side; and with each step he took, he became a bit faster, until he was nothing but a blur.

Miyuki blinked in surprise, she knew it was fire but didn't know anything else. Besides, he hadn't learned any fire attacks (having just been evolved) so she still fell back onto eevee attacks.

"Body Slam!"

Yasu was also reeling from the change, so it was harder for him to turn on a dime and Ponydash had already charged up his attack, surrounding Yasu in flames. Considering how quickly Ponydash was running it would be no surprise if the slam missed.
PostPosted: Thu Dec 05, 2013 7:41 pm

And the body slam did in fact miss. Ponytas were one of the fastest pokemon already without the speed increase, but with the additional speed it would be very difficult to hit.

"Body slam!" Andarien ordered, his fists clenched in concentration.

What else could he do, after all?

Without slowing, Ponydash used all his speed, power and strength to run into his now-large-enough-to-hit opponent.

That had been perhaps the only disadvantage that Yasu had now, now that he was big enough to hit. The hit connected and set the newly evolved fire pokemon flying across the battle area. He hit the ground with a thud that was louder than what Miyuki was use to.

She waited just a bit to see what Yasu would do, if she called it too early he wouldn't forgive her. When he appeared to move, get up, only to flop back down onto the ground she called it.

"Enough, I think Yasu out," she called over to her brother.

Andarien let out a sigh of relief, and he relaxed. His fingers loosened, and he called out, "Good job, Ponydash. Come on."

With a soft snort, Ponydash shook his head and trotted back to Andarien. As he did so, the flames that covered his body dissipated and his pace slowed. Andarien met him halfway and put one hand on his shoulder, stroking him affectionately.

"How's Yasu?" he called over to his sister, his brow furrowed anxiously.

Miyuki crouched over Yasu, checking him over. Yasu, on his part, turned over so he could be laying on his stomach, which was a good sign that he could turn over at all. She prodded him gently and noted he was burned, it probably happened while he was an eevee.

"A bit burnt, and probably a bit bruised but otherwise fine," she finally replied before petting him tentatively.

He was now perhaps a bit more warm than what was normal, she imagined he would be comfortable to have in bed on a cold night.
