"No mom nothing is wrong with the house, it was just time I moved out I thought you would be happy." Lark said with fake cheer her mood was sinking because she didn't dare tell her mom just yet that she had moved in with her boyfriend now fiancée or the events that made her chose to be her she would never believe that she and Devon had this magical connection that lets them know of the others thoughts and feeling, and to top it off he was a werewolf. She couldn't tell her mother she had to keep Devon's secret or risk losing him forever for breaking her promise to him. Lark knew she wasn't very good at lying but she had to at lease try. It was going to be hard she had to tell her mother about her engagement to Devon and Lark didn't think it would end well for herself. She was under a lot of pressure and it was going to be hard.

Alice sighed. "Well I guess it can't be helped. I'll meet you at the house and I have a very special guest." she said excitedly. Unable to without her excitement for the sake of secrecy she burst with the news. "YOu won't believe it, but a prince --A PRINCE!--- wants you to be his wife. Can you believe it? I'll give you the details later okay?" she said happily.
Devon nearly crushed the wall under his had. Her mother had a what that she was to what?! He couldn't stop the flare of territorial anger. Lark was his. He was going to put a stop to this!

Lark gasped stunned and horrified she was still reeling from the shock this news gave her to give her mother a proper answer or even a protest all she managed was a ok and hung up. Sliding to the ground mortified at what her mother had done. She hadn't really tuned in to Devon's anger she was still dealing with her own despair to notice. She didn't know what to do now in fact she didn't want to leave this room. What was she going to do now

Later...
Devon drove to the meeting place, Lark in the passenger seat beside him. Neither of them had said a word since leaving. The tension was heavy in the car. Devon wasn't looking forward to this, but he intended to finish it up quickly.

Lark just knew Devon was upset with her since he wasn't speaking to her and she didn't even have the courage to talk first, to upset over what her mother had done and on top of that she didn't know what to do with the situation her mother had now put her in Devon wasn't exactly speaking to her after he coaxed her out of her room after the phone call and it took a lot of coaxing on Devon's part because Lark did not want to come out at all after Devon had told he heard everything and the glow of his eyes proved that he was very angry despite the gentle tones he used with her. So as the car came in sight of her old home with all the light's on a Lark sighed and got out of the car with fear and sadness in her eyes and her heart pounding her in chest with fear and anxiety before walking into the living room where he mother and a stranger were waiting.

They were there and the drive was helped Devon cool his head a bit. Enough that Lark's fear, worry and sadness nearly smacked him in the face. He felt guilty for not noticing this sooner. He was always so wrapped up in his anger. As they stepped into the living room, he placed his hand on Lark's shoulder. He looked down at her face as he squeezed gentle. He tried to give her some of his courage as well as comfort her. "You'll be fine."
Alice looked up in surprise as Lark come in. It wasn't so surprising to see Lark, but to see Lark come in with a body guard was. She assumed he was a guard. He was large and strong with smoldering eyes and a tense air about him, as if bracing for an attack. Her eyes widened. "Lark? Is something wrong?" she looked between the to. "Why is this man here? Are you in some kind of trouble?"

Lark was already closing herself off from Devon so not to upset him more but she didn't respond to his comfort or courage he was trying give her. To busy retreating in her shell and trying to dig up her own courage to face her mother and this man on the sofa who was looking at her like she was already his and another way she couldn't describe but it made her uncomfortable but she didn't even have the chance to greet her mother boy before she said something that made her stop and think. It wasn't a big deal that she didn't know who Devon was but what does he being here have to do with her being in trouble her mother knew perfectly well she wasn't like that and any trouble that she had been in with the wolves had long since past. "Mom this is Devon Lander, my fiancée, he wanted to meet you. and I don't know why you would ask if I was in trouble but no I am not." Well at least not anymore and not the kind of trouble she wanted to tell her even if she did she couldn't and wouldn't tell Devon's secret.

Alice was shocked. This man was her fiancée? She couldn't be serious. "Lark. This man? He looks more like a bodyguard than a good husband. Did he force you into this? You don't have to marry this bear of a man! I on't let you!" She turned to glare at Devon as if he were the source of all evil. Before weakly sat back down. "Be poor girl. I was gone for a few weeks and now she's over her head."
Devon's anger shot up like a rocket, but he stuffed it into a box before it left the atmosphere. He took a deep breath. He needed to stay calm. Coughing he started. "Mrs. . I assure you, I love your daughter and want nothing more than to make her happy. I can prove for her anything she needs." he explained. "And I would never force her to do anything she didn't want to."

Her mother's reaction hurted more than Lark wanted to show and admit to Devon would only be the wiser since that hurt did slip through the bound. It was difficult to block Devon up she felt like she needed too so he wouldn't be hurt and think any less of her. Lark figured Devon wouldn't understand be cause he had both of his parents while Lark all but killed her father and her mother just didn't accept her and it didn't help matters that he didn't like her mother either so she though she was doing him a favor by shutting him out and hiding her shell again. "Mom," Lark spoke with courage she did not really have but she would speak as much of the truth as possible with out betraying Devon. "Devon never forced me into anything,I want to marry him because we love each other and we belong together and he isn't a bear, he's not a savage, he's very loving if you just give him a chance." The last part was a plea to her mother to for once to just understand and accept her decision and not reject it and drag it out and hurt her more.

Alice leaned forward. "It's just seems so fast? Do you really know one another? You as me to give this strange a chance... and I suppose I can try." she said. Then gestured to the prince. "But perhaps you could give his majesty a chance." she suggested. "I won't force you, but do it for me? Please, Birdie?" she pleased sensibly.
Devon bristled at that. Yes, it was sensible in a messed up way. And it completely by passed his point. She had undermined him. He growled involuntarily. "I know her and she knows me, Ma'am. I don't like you encouraging my fiancee to cheat on me." he said coldly.

Lark was pushed to the edge when her mother used the endearment her father had given her when she was small, and it hadn't been used since he had died it made what was left of her resolve start to crumble she was about to open her mouth to appease her mother and hopefully make he her happy with out giving Devon up until a wolfish growl sounded behind her and Devon spoke up. Hurt washed through her as Devon in his anger implied that she could be encouraged to cheat on him, which she would never do and she thought knew he knew that she turn to look at him all of the hurt she felt at that she felt at his thoughtless comment flashed into her strawberry eyes briefly before she turned around and came face to face with the prince who had moved from his place at the couch and had Lark hand in his and held it up to his lip kissing her knuckles. "M'lady" He spoke smoothly in despite of her blush "I would really like for the chance to get to know you, in away the would appease both you mother and the green monster behind you a surely you won't deny this poor stranger to this land. Forgive me but your mother tells me that you never had any suitors it's not fair that you should have to settle before you had a chance to look at all your options. Just one dinner with me please." He gave her a look that most women would swoon over and this girl didn't look any different.

Devon looked down at the hurt on her face and felt guilt wash over him. he realized what that implied. "Lark, I didn't me-" she said but was cut off by the Prince.
Alice smiled. "See the prince has a point. You shouldn't settle when you haven't played the field a little." she agreed.
Devon's rage bubbled forward and his eyes were a glowing gold. His was trying hard not to shift, but his claws lengthened anyway and so did his canines. "Step away from my mate, Worm." he growled, making a big slip.

Lark felt the hair on the back of her neck stand up when she felt Devon's rage and she immediately backed away from the shocked Prince going straight to Devon who was on verge of losing it, his wolf was already at the surface it wouldn't take a whole lot more before he phased completely and blow his cover, even though he made a slip just now by letting his wolf do the talking. "Devon, calm down." She spoke to him softly even though she knew that the wolf that was Devon could never hurt her, she didn't think she could stop him if he decided to attack the other two people in the room. Prince looked up at the man before as the snarled something in a inhuman and he began to transform into what looked to be some type of monster he backed up very slowly trying to pull Lark with him but she wasn't coming. "What in the hell is this?"

Alice looked on in shock. "Lark! Is this some kind of trick?" she screeched, obviously shaking. "This man is dangerous. What are you?!"
Devon was trying not to get out of control, Lark voice called his attention and he looked to her, trying to control his breathing. He placed a hand on her shoulder, and despite literally shaking with rage, his touch was nothing but gentle to her. "Lark." he sighed. His anger eased a bit.

Lark took the hand that was on her shoulder and leaned into his touch before looking at Devon with that look in her eyes the look that made him do anything she wanted ignoring her mother's shouts she told him. " Devon you have to calm down, I forbid you from hurting anyone here." She told him before her mother started to pull her away screaming about Devon begin a monster. "Mom, stop it! Let Go!" She protested
