Feng gave Aliya a strange look, "I don't mean about his ability to do work!"
She looked bewildered, how could Aliya-chan not know? Aliya-chan had legs and could have babies, not like Feng who was a mer who didn't have legs and as a Second probably (as far as she knew) couldn't have babies. Even she knew about this! Granted, Feng was also the person who didn't notice some of the things Shi did.
"I meant he should.. spend some time with you doing not work things.. otherwise he's going to... be the youngest person to work himself to the ground."
Well to a grave, but since elves seem to not get sick for the most part, Feng didn't think that was a good way of putting it.
"That is going to be difficult," Ryu replied drily, "Unless he avoids Aliya until we leave. In which that is only going to make Feng try harder. This cannot go over well. Though granted if one was a bit of a sadist it will probably provide a bit of humour."

Lin went back and forth counting each spoon one by one. Leaving a small space in where she was going to put the knife when she was done. Slowly counting aloud, though there were only going to be six of each.
So once she was done with the spoons, for the fun of it, she started counting the knives in Chinese instead.

Elrohir entered the kitchen just then, his hair messy and sticking up in places.
"Good morning," he said cheerfully to Lin and Haradhel, and then he came around the counter and put his arms around Haradhel, folding his hands across her stomach and putting his head on her shoulder.
"Good morning," Haradhel replied, turning her head and kissing Elrohir's cheek. Then she tapped his hands to make him let go of her. "I have to finish breakfast, don't get in the way."

Aliya stared. "And ... spending time with me, more than he already does, is going to keep him from overworking himself," she remarked doubtfully. "I ... don't think so."
She was really starting to wonder why Feng was making such a big deal of it.
Ulani winced. "Don't mention that around the ranch, all right?" she requested in a soft tone. "There ... are some people there who are slightly sadistic ... they would get far too much pleasure out of teasing Amdir. As things are, they generally leave him alone, but if the matter is pressed ..."
She let the idea hang.

"Well... he might have more common with you than with some of the other people," Feng murmured thoughtfully just ready to give it up for the day.
Honestly, how could she not notice? The man was just as bad as... well... she tried to think of something to connect Admir to, and she couldn't. Everyone else she knew (which were only family members) were safetly mated when their mates came to them.
"I won't," Ryu murmured softly, "Don't worry, besides once lessons start again Feng will forget about it."
For the moment anyhow.

Lin giggled at that as she set down the last knife proudly as she watched the two. She was sure her parents did that, only in their room instead of in the kitchen.. unless there were those times her parents kicked her brother and sister out of the kitchen to make a meal...
"Good morning!"

"Good morning, Lin," Elrohir grinned, releasing Haradhel and moving to the counter. He ruffled Lin's hair affectionately. "All set for a big day?" he asked her, putting his elbows on the counter and leaning closer to her. "Any ideas what you'll be doing?"

Aliya thought about Feng's comment seriously, then shrugged. "Besides our age, I don't know of anything," she said honestly. "I mean, I may look like a Westlander, but my blood's as diluted as ... well, diluted. I'm not more like a Westlander or a Southlander, I'm both and neither, so in that way I'm different from everyone. Obviously the people here like horses, why else would they work on a ranch? And I mean what else is there to have in common?"
Ulani nodded. "That's good," she murmured. "Amdir needs a break from being spoken to about it."

Feng blinked... and blinked and finally asked a unusually calm way, "I don't suppose you would believe if I told you he likes you would you?"
Honestly, Feng didn't think it would be this hard, if you like them and they like you back then it was all good. Except that Aliya didn't know he liked her and well.. that just made Feng's head hurt.
"Seeing as I get this sense everyone knows but her, yes I do think he needs a break, "Ryu murmured, "And I think Feng has finally hit a brick wall."

Lin giggled as she straightened her hair back out, she peered at him as she sat on the counter thoughtfully.
"Well..... Daddy says I have to practice my lessons while he's gone. So.. I have to do that, I can get Ryu to help me.. and Triton to help me... but... I need help with my other lesson, and then Triton is suppose to help me practice my physical lessons and then Cindy said I could water the Fluffy Cat, and then when I'm done all that...."
She thought about it and thought about it.
"I'm going to fine Elros."

"Ah, that sounds like fun," Elrohir grinned. "Make sure you have someone else with you when you go to find Elros, though, it's not safe to wander around on your own - especially at your size."
He paused a moment, then added, "No offense."
"She's not stupid," Haradhel reminded him as she finished up the preparations for the meal. "I'm sure she knows not to wander around by herself."

Aliya shrugged. "Sure, we're friends," she agreed. "Why else would he have offered to walk me home?"
But she honestly didn't see anything different about their relationship than her relationship with anyone else. After all, he wasn't the only one who offered to walk her home sometimes.
He was just the only one whose offers she accepted from time to time.
Ulani chuckled at Ryu's analogy. "I'm actually amazed she's been keeping at it for this long. Most people would have given up long ago ... though admittedly, Feng doesn't know Aliya as well as most people."

Feng wondered if Ulrich worried about his daughter at times, because she would be. How could Aliya not understand? How was it possible? Surely she must have had thoughts about mates and close people and cuddlies.
"Aliya-chan............................................."
Ryu laughed softly at that, "Actually Feng is just stubborn, not like she's any better when she interacts with other people around her."
Perhaps now Feng would understand why he got fustrated with her at times.

Well... it wasn't so much Lin would be stupid to do so, it was more likely she wanted to do everything herself. Which she did, but she understood what Elrohir meant by that.
"That's okay, it's the problem with being short, like going up stairs. I'm still trying to go up those stairs too.. I haven't managed it yet, but I will!"

Elrohir nodded and grinned. "I'm sure you'll be able to manage the mountain now," he told Lin sincerely. "As long as you practice, and you take your time and don't rush yourself, I'm sure you'll make it. Maybe not the first time you try, maybe the second, maybe more, but I know you'll do it someday."
Haradhel nodded and took the tray of dishes towards the dining room.
