Arthur paused for a moment, damn it he didn't really know what Sevilin would want from him and now he was in a awkward position; what could he give to Sevilin that would want him to teach him how to use magic? This was starting to bug Arthur and it could be shown as he sat in the chair, his leg bouncing up and down in one spot as he tried to think of anything he could give to the drow. When he couldn't think of anything in particular that the man wanted he sighed and looked at the two drow. "I don't think I could have anything that Sevilin would want, so unless I could find him something then the deal is off." Damn and he was so close too, oh well there are times when you can't get everything that you ask for.

This was somewhat of a laugh and a waste of his time wasn't it? To propose a deal and then propose it of nothing at all. Sure...Sevilin could be mean as hell and request something such as Arthur's freedom in exchange for training but he didn't have the patience for a pet's upkeep. Besides...he really wasn't into that whole thing at all. And with a sigh he rolled his eyes at Arthur's failed attempt. What was this? Placating or something?

"You're a horrible deal maker..." Which was another strike against him as far as he concerned, seeing as elves were dealing creatures in general. There was always something, superficial or not, physical or not that could be turned into deal material. "And I thought you were making strides as an elf..."

Yes, he was purposefully doing it this time...though perhaps there was good intent behidn it this time. He'd never learn if everyone kept letting him get away with this behavior and frankly Sevilin couldn't be around him like this. "Consider yourself at a crossroads boy, one path is going to lead you to better things but its a bridge that is wearing thin in its rope...the other is merely a dirt road that leads to the same boring life you lead now. Better choose quick and pick your means of barter."

Leaning back against the couch, keeping a rather cool level gaze on Arthur. "If you can't think of anything...you're hopeless. Even humans can make worthwile deals..." It's not like it was hard. Malik for instance first payed him and now that he was bound by blood, provided free room, board, and supplies and what not. Even he and Zahara had made a deal over this child that was more or less intangible.

Arthur just stared at Sevilin with a calm expression on his face, he didn't want to get mad at this man and just kept quiet. There the man went on how he was a horrible deal maker, it's not like he could pay the man in gold or blood for that matter Arthur just didn't have anything that the man really needed. But everytime he tried to talk to this damn drow he brought up the whole 'and you're trying to be an elf' speech, it just annoys Arthur to the point of wanting just tell the man to shut up. But instead he just dug his fingers into the chair he sat on as he quietly listened to Sevilin's words and when he was done he sighed just a little bit. "The only thing I could really offer you Sevilin is my service for whatever you want in the total of days it takes for you to complete my training, since I have nothing else in vaule that would want you to train me in the first place." He kept his voice in a calm manner, not wanting it to raise and seem like he was getting angry at the drow again.

Zahara sighed, this was not going well. Clearly these two sparked off each other and caused more problems. She could tell Arthur was getting angry and she sort of knew why. Sevilin had pointed out the legitimate things that Arthur was doing, much the same way she did and he responded by getting angry. Truthfully, Sevilin was right, Arthur was at a crossroads and he did have to make a choice. She glanced at Arthur and shook her head, "It could take years Arthur. This is no easy task so you need to lay out exactly what your service entails before you get strung up in a bargain that you can't keep."

He held in a little chuckle. Days...if he were to train Arthur in days he could very well kill him with the stress that would be put on his body to learn and acclimate so fast. Poor things mind might even overload and throw him into a reverie coma.

Was he being mean just to be mean? Not really...he was merely a creature of fact and habit. If soemthing was wrong or flawed in the way it went, well he was going to point it out damn it. Though a side glance to Zahara as she more or less spoke in his behalf. Hm...maybe...

"She's right you know. Don't want you to put yourself somewhere that you don't want to be for an undetermined amount of time. Come now...be creative before I start deciding things for you." A look to Zahara, though he was still addressing Arthur, hm he may enjoy an option Sevilin was thinking but he didn't want to give Arthur joy from this too much now did he?After all, the boy liked spending time around her, why foster that.

Arthur lightly nodded, his anger has quelled down and he let go on the chair, his finger nails impressions could be seen placed into it. But Zahara had a point, he should think more clearly on his terms of his offer in case he might find himself in a bad spot that he didn't want to be in. slowly he thought it over, trying to think of what best options he could give to Sevilin so they could agree on the deal. "Well...if you need me to get you things while you're currently occupied I can go out get them for you..." He paused for a minute as he began to think, he needed something but he didn't want Sevilin to choose for him and he bet the first option he just mention wasn't going to satisfy what the man wanted, he was getting nervous which was making him trying to think harder but the more he did the more he could find anything that he could bargin for.

It drifted into her mind that if Arthur really wanted Sevilin to teach him and he didn't want to give him anything in return all he needed to do was convince Malik of it. Of course he'd have to bargain with Malik as well, offer his services to fight in the war hanging over the heads if it came to that or complete loyalty and fealty to his House. But Arthur wouldn't know that since he hadn't been raised elven. She was pretty sure there was something much the same done in the human way as well. Why else would humans band together and fight against things? "You're offering to be his fetch boy? All the time? Or just when you feel like it? More specific terms, Arthur. Are you willing to get anything he asks for? What if he demands a jerheg head? Can you get that for him?"
PostPosted: Thu Aug 17, 2006 7:36 pm

Sevilin had to give a chuckle at Zahara's little bit of advice. After all, knowing himself he would ask for something such as that just to give Arthur something hard to do...and ask for it to be done by early afternoon as well. But a little shrug from him. "I don't need a fetch boy. I'm perfectly well and capable of doing things myself. Besides, I need specific things sometimes and I don't think you could find them...or want to be involved with them for that matter. Underdark things you know."

This had quickly turned into a demonstration and class about deal making hadn't it? That was partially amusing. "I gather you have nothing to offer but yourself. I could very well ask for your sword, seeing as it's steel and that's the curreny down here. Would you be willing to give that up? I don't think you would...see how this could go south on you very quickly?"

Arthur sighed a little bit, this was coming to the point where he wonder what the hell could he ever offer in order to gain Sevilin's teachings. Slowly his one eye traveled over to Zahara and he shook his head lightly. "I don't think I'll be able to do so, so that's out of the question." Though what Sevilin said caught his attention rather quickly. Give up his sword? It’s would be the only thing he would have left when he was to get rid of anything that was holding him back so would he give it up? Of course not. "I'm sorry to say Sevilin but there is no way where I could give up my sword to you, it means a lot to me so sorry but no deal." But the man had a point it seemed this deal he is trying to strike here was quickly fading and he had nothing left to offer. "Well other than my service to you Sevilin, which I still have to work out a few things about what I can do for you, it's all I can offer." He gave a small sigh as he crossed his arms, yeah Arthur never made that many deals in his life but they were with humans, this was with a drow and Sevilin had a higher asking price than humans do.

"So you don't want to learn that badly then?" She considered that one for a moment and then glanced at Sevilin. Why was he watching her? "You see Arthur, Sevilin was testing you. If you were willing to give up your sword, your most treasured possession than you desperately want Sevilin to teach you. Since you're not willing he must assume that this is not that important to you. Is it? Or are you just taking my suggestion? You were so upset when you hurt me yesterday, what would you give up to keep it from happening again?" There, change the stakes a little bit. "Without proper training you will hurt someone, quite possibly yourself and most dastardly. Playing with magic you aren't equipped to handle can result in death, usually your own."

Hm...Sevilin saw opportunity in this, if Arthur was oh so willing. There was something worse than being in deal with an elf...and that was being in debt. A deal debt...how very much the solution. "Your sword was hypothetical. As Zahara said, a test if you will of how far you're willing to go to do something and strike a deal. You still have sentiment...though I suppose there's a little in all of us."

He tapped his fingers on his knee. "You want me to teach you...alright. But on conditions. You will do it my way, you will learn by my means and you will not complain or let your morals in the way of those means. And...you owe me. Meaning you are in debt to me. Owe me a favor if you will...and when I call in that favor...no matter what it is, you'll do it and won't be a traitor about it should the actions prove to clash with your... tender sensibilities."

Yes, those were his terms. If Arthur wouldn't strike the deal, Sevilin would and would work it to the most of his advantage, even if he may use it for malicious purposes.

Crap he hated that, always using something that was close to him as some sort of test to see if he was willing enough to go the extra mile in order to train under Sevilin. His eye lightly moved downward at Zahara's words and he sighed a little, he needed to think things over again slowly so he wouldn't screw up this deal. But then Sevilin's words made him look back up with a bit of hope in his eye, okay sure he would lear under sevilin's way and Sevilin's way only and he would not complain, like he needed to piss off the only man who would actually teach him; damn why did Zahara had to be pregant? But one thing did bug him about it, he would be in debt to Sevilin and the bad thing about ebing in debt to anyone is that they could ask you for anything. But this was his one shot and he had no choice but to say..."Fine then, it's a deal."

Well, that was slightly interesting now wasn't it? Sevilin had taken the deal into his own hands and given Arthur something worthy to barter for. Fascinating really, what he had chosen. Elves tried really hard not to be indebted to each other, especially drow. Of course in drow's case it very rarely happened since they weren't likely to just help each other anyway. And most drow didn't care about debt. Slaying the one owed was an easy way to even the tally and lower the balance to zero. But she remained quiet on the entire deal since this was between the boys and they'd finally gotten to terms that worked well for everyone. "Indebted to Sevilin...there are worse things I suppose. Now boys, Arthur, do you need a shake to affirm or are words enough for you? Sevilin?" Words should be enough for him but who knew with his tendency to act like a human.

A rather...perhaps nerve wracking smirk crossed his features. Oh Arthur, Arthur...he had no clue what he had entered in to or what could come of it. The things he could twist it to if he wished. No, it wasn't a smart move at all on Arthur's part. Had he really wanted a good deal he would of walked away and come back with something to put on the table. But no, he had merely taken what was set on the table for him. And now, Sevilin practically owned his very life if he so choose.

A look to Zahara. "Of course it's not." Thus reaching over to his pile of things on the floor and picking out his dagger from the pile. Taking the blade from it's sheeth, he brought it to his palm and sliced across his skin to draw blood. "A drow always seals with more than words." Flipping the dagger he offered it's hilt to Arthur to do the same.

Arthur lightly blinked a few times, that smirk on Sevilin's face just sent a chill down his spine as if it was telling him he made a huge mistake on his part. He sighed lightly and pushed that feeling aside, he made his choice and now he had to stick with it through and through with whatever Sevilin throws at him. Quietly he watched as Sevilin took the dagger he pulled out and dragged it across his hand to cut it and let blood leak out. When the drow turned the handle to him Arthur just stared at the man for a moment before his eye flickered over to Zahara for a split second, then without a word he took off his glove then grabbed the dagger be the handle; he did the same thing that Sevilin had done and was careful not to show pain when he felt the blade cut skin. When he pulled the dagger away he looked down to see his own blood pouring out of the wound, he waited for a moment as he watched it then stuck out his hand. "A deal is a deal Sevilin."
